You might say that being in business for himself is in the DNA of Dr. Richard Slaten his parents owned their own mom-and-pop business. Dentistry has allowed him to use his organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and scientific curiosity of physiological mechanisms all while working for himself and having a positive influence on people's dental and overall health.

Dr. Richard received his Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Michigan State University and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. There he was a class officer and a member of the student council, and he presented a research project on decreasing the decay rate of preschool children.

Continuing education has always been a part of Dr. Richards professional life. In over 44 years of dentistry, his studies have included implant dentistry, aesthetic restorative anterior/posterior dentistry (both fixed and removable), non-amalgam restorations, TMJ dysfunction, endodontics, and periodontal/chemo therapeutics.

Dr. Richard feels that his patients enjoy coming to see him because of his genuine sincerity for their concerns and his commitment to designing unique treatment plans for these concerns. He says that the best part of his job is the people that he works with. In addition, he is thankful for the current generation who have helped him embrace todays quick speed of learning and technology.

'Becoming a dentist was interesting for me. I attended Michigan State, where I was a math major and taking math. I took physics. I took chemistry. I came from a family who always owned their own business. I hadn 't thought of the health career then. As I was getting into my junior year, I knew I didn 't want to teach the math, the physics, or go into research. I did want to work with people, and I decided to go in the health care field. And dentistry fit for me.

As I got into dentistry, I found out we could bring these things that I learned about the physics, the physiology of the body and the chemistry of the body and how it all works, and, of course, I could work with people. So it just seemed like a good fit for me, and it has been.

The most rewarding part about being a dentist is working with people, both the people who are our team and the people who are our patients. You're helping them along with yourself on your growth as you live and learn about each other and how you communicate. It's just been, the most rewarding is the relationships.

Working with our team as we grow together has been a challenge but a rewarding challenge. We're always open to coursework so we know in our practice. We have a lot of technology that we use all the time, but we can't forget that we have patients attached to that. I think there was a term not coined by me that said patients don't care what you know, they want to know that you care. And I think we bring that to those patients. They can go on our website and see what we know. But when they come in here, we want them to know that we care about them and that they become an episodic partner us in their life and they're in our life.

I believe when a patient does enter our practice and as they get to know us, they 're going to benefit from the team that we have here. We do have five doctors, and each doctor has gone into certain areas that they try to find more expertise of. And our employees are just terrific of going to these courses with us, learning the technology to work with patients, even our front desk. We cross-train everybody. So a lot of the people who might answer the phone for you also understand dentistry and what we 're doing, and they truly believe in helping patients. We know that we can better their life through dentistry, and I think as a team we all believe that and work towards it and use the best of each other 's ability to work on each patient.'

Dr. Kim Fury has been involved in dentistry since 1969. After 17 years as a practicing hygienist, Dr. Fury returned to school and earned her Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Case Western Reserve University and the universitys School of Dental Medicine, respectively.

At her graduation from dental school achieved through commuting from home and continuing in the roles of wife, mother, and aerobics instructor Dr. Fury received the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Academic Honorary recognition for her high achievements in academics and character.

Continuing education is an enduring focus in Dr. Furys professional life. Her studies include aesthetic and restorative anterior/posterior dentistry, TMJ dysfunction, endodontics, periodontal/chemo therapeutics, nutrition, exercise, and non-amalgam restorations.

Dr. Fury is proud of her graduation from studies at the Dawson Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida in anterior esthetics, occlusion, problem solving, and restorative applications; the Pride Institute of practice management in Chicago; and her leadership in studies at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies in esthetics, occlusal, reconstructive, and neuromuscular dentistry.

She is a founding member of North East Ohio Neuromuscular Study Consortium (NEONs), a member and participant in the Academy of Computerized Dentistry of North America (ACDNA); has a certificate of clinical proficiency in diode laser usage through the Academy of Laser Dentistry; and is associated with APEX a neuromuscular and esthetic dental teaching institute.

'I actually been in dentistry for 50 years this year. I started out when I was 16 as a dental assistant in Chagrin Falls, which is where our office is and where I grew up from a young age. And I was 16, the guy that I worked for is 26, Roger Rolland in downtown Chagrin. And my junior, senior year of high school, I was in a VO educational school at Chagrin. So I worked for half a day with him Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and I did everything in his office. I was the receptionist, I was an assistant, I just did everything and I just loved dentistry from that point on.

I just love being around people, getting to know them. It 's like that and my fitness classes, too. A lot of them have been taking class a long time, and we 're friends and we know each other. You have to have an open mind being a dentist and not be afraid to go outside your comfort zone. You work in a small space and they want to stay in that small space, and you just have to be willing to go out there and learn new things, but I love that in both areas. And my husband 's the same way, luckily, and it 's been very, very rewarding to work with him. People think we 're nuts when Other dentists ask us, 'How do you do that?' That 's the only way we 've ever known each other. We 'll be married 39 years in March.

We do a lot of continuing education, we always have. That's how we got into, that's how you grow, like I said. And you're required in dentistry to have 40 hours of continuing education every two years, and we take way more than that because we love it. I've known many dentists in the past that just stayed, they're not ready for retirement and they've told me they're not going to invest in anything more because there's going to be no benefit. Well, yeah there is. There's a benefit to your patients.

You know what? I think just by virtue of just being around us they understand that we're here for them, not for ourselves. They're just like part of our family, really. I mean, they work, we all work really well together, so I enjoy coming here as much as I like going home or going to my fitness classes. It's very rewarding.zz

Dr. Ryan is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. While in dental school, he became the first student to fabricate and place an anterior CEREC restoration. He also was one of five students in his class to place dental implants.

While working toward his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, he attended postgraduate courses on various topics, including tissue grafting, osseointegration, dental implants, neuromuscular dysfunction, CEREC restorations, Lumineers, and dental aesthetics.

Dr. Ryan is a member of local and state dental societies, along with the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and the Academy of CAD/CAM Dentistry.

'I chose the profession of dentistry because it 's such a rewarding experience. There 's really nothing quite like it, actually. There are so many different passions of mine that I get to incorporate: art, computers, technology, innovation, the basic sciences, and, of course, the many areas of dentistry and people. There 's no other way that I can think of that I 'd rather be serving the community I grew up in and that really raised me.

I think the most rewarding part about being a dentist is that I get to be there for people in their time of need, whether it's to see them through pain and suffering and help them heal, or whether it's to restore function in a comfortable environment and allow them to get back to health. It's great to get smiles and hugs, and to see people around town, to know that I did something meaningful, that I made a meaningful contribution to their life.

I went away to Ohio State. I studied chemistry and material science. I decided that I wanted to go into dentistry, dental school there, too. That's what I did. I spent nine years down there. Then I got further education out at Spear, which is a continuing education facility in Scottsdale.

Right when I got out of dental school, I spent a lot of time traveling. I got the benefit of being able to travel the country and learn from some of the best dentists in the world in various areas that I was interested in. That was a huge benefit, post graduation, to be able to be exposed to the many areas of dentistry that dental school really doesn't expose you to.

It was at that time that I found technologies and my love and passion for technologies in dentistry. Things like lasers, CAD/CAM. Computers were becoming a big part of dentistry at that time. I really found ways to find a new love for that.

But at the heart of it all, I think my chemistry background really helped me to understand so many things in dentistry that are necessary to really do a great job and to really provide the best service to patients.

I think patients can benefit from my vast background in these various aspects of dentistry that I focused on because I can bring so many different parts of dentistry together and see dentistry as a more global profession. I don 't need to focus in on one problem singularly. I can see it from many different perspectives because of my background. It helps me to provide unique, innovative solutions that might not be available to them otherwise or that might not be thought about if I hadn 't been exposed to these types of things.'

Great experience! Dr. Ryan listed to my concerns about my gums and helped me find a natural option that worked best for me. Receptionists were super friendly and helped me find an appointment around my busy school schedule. The techs were really optimistic about my treatment plan (even when I wasn't). Definitely would recommend !

Perfect-A-Smile is BEST dental office ! (and I've been to a lot of dentists in multiple states !). Dr. Bridget Woodford is absolutely the best dentist - in addition to her fantastic dental skills - she has great communication and compassion for her patients. I travel about 45 min now to get to her office - well worth it for the best dentist ever!! Trust me , you will not find a better dentist !!

Perfect-A-Smile doctors and team are excellent! I have severe dental anxiety and they did everything to make me feel as comfortable as ever. Their technology is great! A cleaning and x-rays that seemed like an absolute nightmare in my mind ended up being a breeze. The treatment and care provided is in my opinion, unmatched. You can tell the doctors and team love what they do and are phenomenal at it. Thank you for making me feel at ease and for the great experience. Highly recommend!!

The staff at Perfect-A-Smile are as friendly as they are expert. Very responsive, very thorough and very gentle. Never hurried or rushed. And never get unnecessary or "borderline" work recommended as "must have"... I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Being in the dental field, I have seen a lot of dental work over the years and I can assure you that having access to the laser that they have is incredibly beneficial to patients.

I am no longer a patient at this practice. I was quite happy with them for over three decades, but things have changed there and I have been very dissatisfied with recent care. Dr Richard Slaten was my primary dentist over the years and very attentive, but he is no longer active in the day to day doings and his replacement is no where close to his level of competence or care

Thought they were great, at first. Doctors are mediocre at best. The last year they've fallen apart. The front desk staff is awful!!!! All so gossipy and so short and rude to the patients. Dawn barks at the patients and Cora, Marilyn and Katie are downright snobs. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

At first glance I felt that they were a great practice only to find out after the fact that they don't honor their pricing even after they give you a "written proposed treatment plan" with costs. Reading the reviews I know this just hasn't happened to me. I would never recommend them to anyone and I certainly won't go back to someone that I believe is dishonest. I asked Dr Ryan to credit me the difference and he refused as he felt he was justified in the up charges which amounted to around $500. I own a business myself and would never do this to a customer. Honestly and morality are fundamental values for me - clearly not for his practice

Have been putting off going to the dentist for a while. The longer I waited the more embarrassed I was to go. They were very professional and made me feel comfortable going. Looking forward to my cleaning.

Top notch. Everyone here is amazingly friendly. Dr. Kenny took care of the work I needed done quickly and efficiently. Music and a little nitrous helped make the entire experience as stress free as possible.

Make sure you get an estimate in writing before treatment by the dentist. I was charged an amount after treatment that I would not have paid had I known the amount I ended up having to pay.
