Penns Commons Dental Group has been my home away from home since 1980. I began my career as the single administrative staff person, growing and thriving along with the practice, including earning my Associate Degree in Business Administration from Penn State. I have been the office administrator for more than 35 plus years, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the practice.

Though many of my responsibilities are behind the scenes, maintaining personal relationships with our patients is what I enjoy most. I am always open to any comments, questions or concerns that may arise during any phase of treatment. Remaining highly visible keeps me consistently in the loop and of course I do not want to miss hearing our patients family stories and seeing their family photos.

I am originally from Lancaster County and thats where I began my career in dentistry. I graduated from Cocalico High School and from the National School of Health Technology in Philadelphia as a certified dental assistant.

Since 2002 Ive been the hygiene coordinator here at Penns Commons. Im happy to help you schedule your visit with one of our dental hygienists or answer any questions you might have that pertain to your dental coverage. Some of the very best things about spending time helping patients is hearing about their families and the return of familiar faces.

I received my Associate Degree in Medical Administration in 1988 from PACE Institute and went on to gather administrative experience in the fields of plastic surgery and ophthalmology. Outside of the office you can find my husband and myself volunteering at church, cooking and candy making. And yes, I love my kitties Mandy, and Sandy.

I was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania and moved to Sinking Spring in 2001 with my husband, Steve. My background is in Graphic Arts. I was an artist for a printing company, managed a commercial photography studio and started my own business as Graphic Arts retouching artist. Im also a potter and love having my hands in clay!

Upon graduation from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York in June of 1979, I answered an employment ad for a dental hygienist for Dr. Schmoyer and I became his first hygienist when our office was located on 10th Street in Reading. Several years later we relocated to Penn Street in Reading and later to our present location in Wyomissing.

I have taken a few breaks during my employment career with Penns Commons, but I have always returned. During those breaks, I found that there is no other dental office more competent or staff better to work with every day.

I started at Penns Commons during the summer of 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a scary time but coming here turned out to be the best thing thats happened to me; my coworkers are like my second family.

On a personal note, Im a Schuylkill County girl, born, raised and currently living in Pottsville. My time away from the office is usually spent with friends and family. I especially enjoy being an aunt to my nephew, Joshua. I enjoy cooking, trying new things and playing with my black lab/golden retriever pup named Koal.

My dental career began while I was in high school; I worked as an assistant my junior and senior year. I continued my dental career while attending Luzerne County Community College where I earned my Expanded Functions Dental assisting license in 2016 and my dental hygiene license in 2019.

Im looking forward to my future here at Penns Commons Dental Group. My goal has always been to make my patients feel comfortable while were together and to assist you in your dental journey to be healthy.

My journey at Penns Commons began in 1984 while we were located on Penn Street. After finishing my second year of college, I earned my license to practice as an EFDA in Pennsylvania through Harcum College. My role as an EFDA allows me to treat patients in some of the same ways the doctors can and aid in a more detailed level of care.

In 2014 I graduated from the Berks Technical Institute with an Associate Degree in Arts and Science. One of my graduation requirements included an internship and that opened the door to my future here. As one of the assistants, I work with both Dr. Greenlee and Dr. Bowes. Their guidance has helped me grow into a confident member of a great team of caregivers.

As one of the assistants, my interaction with my patients is the favorite part of my day. I feel privileged to be part of the Penns Commons family. Every day, Im meeting new faces and learning from my coworkers and the doctors.

Gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. Gum disease has two primary stages. If diagnosed and treated in the first stage, the condition can be reversed and tooth loss can usually be prevented. In order to prevent gum disease, practice good oral hygiene and visit your dentist for cleanings and check-ups twice a year.

This stage only affects the soft tissue of the gums, and the patient may not experience any discomfort. Although the symptoms may be very mild, it is important to diagnose gum disease in this early stage before it progresses to periodontitis.

Periodontitis is the name for more advanced periodontal disease and if permitted to progress to this point, not only the gums are affected but the bone structures supporting the teeth will be compromised.

A build-up of bacteria causes Gingivitis. In its early stages, inflammation around the gums is observable, with gum tissues appearing red and swollen. Gums that are easily irritated or that bleed during tooth brushing indicate the presence of Gingivitis. Removal of the plaque buildup is necessary to prevent the development of gum disease.

As the gums become more inflamed, they start to pull away from the teeth, forming spaces known as periodontal pockets. Food, bacteria, and plaque begin to collect in the pockets, leading to infection. The surrounding bone becomes damaged both by bacterial toxins and by the immune systemsresponse to infection.

Dr. Greenlee grew up in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, a small-town northeast of Pittsburgh. He received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and his dental degree from Temple University in 1977.

After dental school he served for three years in the Navy Dental Corp at Camp Lejeune and then transitioned into private practice in Chesapeake, Virginia. In 1981 he partnered with his dental school classmate, Dr. James Schmoyer to form Penns Commons Dental Group.

Dr. Sam and his wife Jan reside in Montgomery County where Jan has concentrated on her career as an educator on the post-secondary level. They have two daughters, Lauren who is in education and research and Emily who is a nurse. Emily and her husband are the proud parents of Wyatt, Charlotte, and Reese. Sharing his passion for snow and water sports with his grandkids is one of Dr. Sams greatest joys.

So glad my husband and I switched to Penns Common a few years ago now. Great staff, they treat you special and explain everything to you. To complete my current need I will have to go to Oral surgery. Penns common staff makes all the arrangements except picking the date of service. I've had many questions and the staff patiently explains every step. If looking for a dentist office check out Penns Common

These women are very rude ! Specifically Ruth and Renee they are very rude speak with extreme attitude and Ruth even hung up the phone on me simply because I asked about which insurance they accept. I didn't even go as far as scheduling an appointment don't wanna even deal with them in person if they're gonna act that way on the phone ! Smh

This is the best dental practice in Berks county. Dr Greenlee is the most caring dentist ever. He even called me at home after a bone graft procedure to make sure I was not in pain and that the pain meds were working. No dentist has ever done that. I recommend him highly to all my friends and family.

This dentist office is by far the best dentist in the Berks County area. I say this bc they are state of the art dental service with up to date knowledge and experience. They have been in business for long time and continue to stay on top of the latest dental techniques The staff is highly trained and professional followed by kindness and friendliness. I think they are a hidden gem. I would recommend this dental office to everybody. They will work with you to make your visit as pain free and comfortable which is a big reason why people are afraid of going to a dentist. Take my word for it, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. If anyone is a cry baby,it is me. I can go to this dental office with no fear. So go and check them out and you will find out for yourself that I am telling the truth about their service and style.
