Been going here for many years. I really like this place and Dr. Escarpe is excellent at what she does. The assistants are also really great too and they do a thorough job when they're working with you. No complaints from me.

I previously was a patient at Dr.Yoshida's pediatric practice in Campbell, but due to my work schedule, I could not easily visit him now that I live in San Mateo. Dr.Yoshida has been my dentist ever since I was 4 years old and I was worried about seeing a different dentist since Dr.Yoshida was always so kind and even maintained the sealant on my molars as an adult (which is probably why I've never had a cavity). When I switched dentists, it was important to me that my new dentist be willing to continue maintaining the sealant on my molars and that they genuinely cared for my well-being. Dr. Escarpe's office assured me that Dr. Escarpe would be able to do sealant for me, and that they were taking every precaution against COVID19. I only decided to go to Dr.Escarpe because my boyfriend went to her, and she was able to gently tell him the status of his dental care without making him feel bad and encourage him to start flossing (which no dentist has convinced him to do ever). When I got to the office, they required me to stand outside, fill out a COVID health questionnaire and have my temperature read. Since another patient was at the front desk, they asked me to stay outside until the other patient left to avoid having two patients in their lobby at the same time. In addition to wearing face masks and a face shield, Dr.Escarpe works with a plastic shield (attached to the dental light in front of the patient's mouth), an in-mouth suction device to prevent aerosols and a nearby vacuum hose like thing to remove any aerosols the in-mouth suction device misses. In addition to those precautions, each chair has a surgical grade air purifier next to it and the staff asks that you wear your mask when they are not working in your mouth. I saw the dental assistant wash her hands several times (both before working in my mouth and after) and disinfect the chair and equipment. I was thoroughly impressed by the level of precaution everyone was taking. In terms of my interactions with Dr.Escarpe and her staff, everyone was very friendly. I was repeatedly told that if my jaw needed a break, they could stop so I could rest and ensured I was comfortable. When they did the cleaning, I was never nicked with the scraper and because of the reflection on the plastic shield, I could see what she was doing while she was working in my mouth. Dr.Escarpe noticed I had some wear on my teeth from grinding and suggested that I get a nightguard ($474) but there was absolutely no pressure from her or her staff to get one. I later verified this price with my friend who is a dentist and he said this was a fair price (since you need to get molds done in addition to having the guard made). Given the positive interactions both me and my boyfriend have had at this practice, I have decided to continue seeing Dr.Escarpe as my dentist. I am sure that she is equally great working with children and that she will provide the highest quality care for you and your family.
