From an early age, Dr. Evanthia Peikidis struggled with her own oral health issues. Dr. Peikidis has used her lived experiences through orthodontic correction to form the foundation for the orthodontist she is today. Dr. Evanthia Peikidis story is truly one of American success. She was born to greek immigrants on Long island, New York and was raised in East Meadow. She loves the culture and community of New York and has remained in the region throughout her life. She attended the State University of Binghamton for her undergraduate education and the Stony Brook University School of Dentistry for both her Doctor of Dental Surgery and Certificate of Orthodontics.

Dr. Peikidis is committed to giving back to and serving the community that helped shape her into the dentist she is today. As a native New Yorker, she has a natural and intimate understanding of what the community needs and how she can best serve you. Post-degrees, Dr. Peikidis has continued her education, ensuring her patients can enjoy the benefits of the latest technologies and procedures. Shortly after graduating, she completed the highest level of achievement in her field and became a board-certified orthodontist. Additionally, she has placed herself in leadership positions within the field of orthodontics and is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics, American Board of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Nassau County Dental Society, and New York State Dental Association. She has remained active in research, studying the effects of pediatric panoramic and cephalometric radiation exposure to organs of the head and neck. She presented her findings at a national orthodontic meeting!

When not at the practice Dr. Peikidis enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, traveling to exciting new locales, and spending quality time with her family. Recently, she entered into the joys of raising a puppy when she welcomed a Mini-Daschund into her home!

No. All orthodontists must be licensed to practice; however board certification is a voluntary achievement that some orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO), an individual orthodontist is thoroughly tested by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment. The most fair, reliable and valid testing methodology is utilized to test clinical proficiency in an objective manner. The ABO certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists personal commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. Board Certification exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of orthodontics and dental facial orthopedics which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable about. Successful completion of this board examination allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Scenario-based Oral Clinical Examination where they are objectively evaluated on their knowledge, abilities and critical thinking skills based on proficiency and clinical excellence in four core performance areas/domains. Both examinations take significant preparation and time. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a limited time period. A certified orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.
