At Tustin Pediatric Dentistry we have three Board Certified pediatric dentists. Board Certification means that they have undergone a significant amount of specialized training to gain this prestigious title. Our patients know that we are dedicated to providing excellence of care in a safe, gentle and caring environment.
One of the ways that we are a unique dental practice is that we have developed a Group Practice Environment. In other words, your child can be seen by any of our three dentists as one becomes available. That means A LOT less time spent in the waiting room. Of course, if your child feels more comfortable seeing a particular doctor we are happy to accommodate. We find that this system provides a constant review of every patient and every procedure including doctors assessing the timing of treatment and referrals. It is in this way we maintain conservative care in treatment planning and thoroughly educate families to prevent dental problems.
At Tustin Pediatric Dentistry we are committed to a philosophy of treating your children without using drugs to manage their behavior. Instead, we provide a safe, loving environment where your kids naturally feel calmer. We do use local anesthetics for pain control. This is designed to provide as safe an environment as possible for childrens dental care. Our approach is non pharmacological behavior management and has been utilized in this office for over 30 years. On occasion, there are situations in which a child might be safer if he or she were in a hospital or were asleep for dental care. We take very seriously the responsibility to find the best approach for your child and to create an environment in which they can become an excellent dental patient for a lifetime.
Tustin Pediatric Dentistry is the ONLY pediatric dental office in Southern California with THREE Board Certified pediatric dentists. This certification doesnt come easy! It means that our doctors not only completed their 4 year dental education and an extensive 2 year specialty program. They also fulfilled rigorous qualifications and examinations necessary to gain Diplomate status and membership in the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
We see young people from the cradle through college. Both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that a childs first dental examination occur by age one. Our patients tend to stay with us all the way through college. Families like the continuity of care we offer. The simple fact is that we love watching your kids grow as much as you do. Thats why some of our newest patients are the children of some of our oldest patients!
Thanks so much for stopping by Tustin Pediatric Dentistry! Im Dr. BEAP, the most famous digital dental robot ever. I want to wish you a warm welcome from the doctors and staff here and introduce you to Dr. Mike.
Dr. Michael J. McCartney has been serving children and teens in the greater Tustin/Irvine area since 1974. In the many years he and I have worked together, weve had the pleasure of making sure our kids always have Happy Teeth and Healthy Smiles! As just as the kids growso do we. At Tustin, were are always adding new, state of the art equipment keeping up on the latest advanced dental care techniques and have routinely introducing younger, exceptionally trained pediatric dentists to our patients. But the one thing that has stayed consistent over all the years is our commitment, dedication and care for all of our families.
Dr. Mike, along with Dr. Kathy and Dr. Rich, (see our Meet The Dentists section) have a strong dedication to discovering the special needs of every single child. They know that, for some children, a trip to the dentist can create anxiety. Thats why our pediatric dental specialists take extra time and special care to make sure all our young patients, teens patients (and even Moms and Dads) feel safe and comfortable whenever they come for a visit. We take pride in being the only pediatric dental office in Southern California with three Board Certified pediatric dental specialists. Ive worked with a lot of humans over the years and I must say that the Tustin doctors are awesome!
I look forward to seeing you at Tustin Pediatric Dentistry soon! Make sure you come up and introduce yourself to me. Im always hanging around in the reception room and excited to make new friends. Have fun finding out what makes our practice unique as you browse through our website.
Much like the preschool tours, small play groups of preschool children are invited to visit the office and experience the fun side of dentistry. Getting a toothbrush and a toy at the end of the informal presentation is one of the highlights of this experience.
Working directly with a grade school or through the Orange County Dental Society, the doctors participate with various grade school screenings. School screenings are completed without the aid of adequate light, dental X-rays and proper instrumentation, but can be useful in finding children who have a high tendency for tooth decay and large cavities. Believe it or not, children miss more time from school for dental related issues than for any other reason!
Dr. Mike, Dr. Kathy and Dr. Rich have given talks to various school groups, parent groups, and even medical groups including Grand Rounds at CHOC. The goals of these discussions regarding childrens teeth and oral health focus on prevention of tooth decay and the various ways teachers, parents and physicians can help in that regard.
Dr. Mike and Dr. Kathy are both on the teaching staff at the USC School of Dentistry. In order to be fair to the university with the baby blue bear mascot, Dr. Mike also teaches at UCLA! We are proud of our philosophy and excellence of patient care and encourage students in the graduate pediatric dental programs to become proficient in behavioral management.
