Dr. Sue Nimer is a native of Birmingham, AL. She received her D.M.D from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and subsequently her Certificate of Pediatric Dentistry from the Childrens Hospital of Alabama and UAB School of Dentistry. She has a masters degree in Pediatric Dentistry and a PhD in neurophysiology. She taught full-time at UABs Department of Pediatric Dentistry for several years, later becoming a part-time Associate Clinical Professor once she began working in a private practice setting. She is certified in the treatment of persons with special needs, in the use of oral sedation and treatment with the aid of general anesthesia. She holds clinical privileges at The Childrens Hospital of Alabama, Stringfellow Memorial Hospital and Floyd Medical Center.
Dr. Nimer is an active member of the Alabama Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association and the UAB School of Dentistry Alumni Association. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Bruce (also a dentist!), her children, Mark and Leanne, her three grandsons and her German Shepherd. She loves traveling, hiking and reading.
Dr. Bowman is Dr. Nimers daughter we like to keep in it the family here at PDE! She is a native of Birmingham, AL where she attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, obtaining her undergraduate degree, her D.M.D degree and Certificate of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Bowman is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. During her pediatric training, Dr. Bowman obtained extensive experience in the treatment of persons with special needs, sedation dentistry and general anesthesia. She is an active member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry and UAB School of Dentistry Alumni Association. She currently serves as the president of the Alabama Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and as the secretary of the Alabama Dental Associations Fifth District.
Dr. Bowman lives in Gadsden with her husband, Brian, their sons, William and Barrett, and their Weimaraner, Lexie. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Bowman enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, spinning and Pilates.
Like our other doctors, Dr. Amber Martin-Bishop is also a native of Birmingham, AL. Her aspirations for dentistry began with her singing orthodontist at age 12. She followed her dreams to the University of Alabama where she graduated with honors in 2002 with a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology. Dr. Martin-Bishop attended the UAB School of Dentistry. Upon graduation she practiced general dentistry for 6 years where she cultivated a love for kids through work in practice and in her community. She also served 2 years in the National Health Service Corps. In 2013 Dr. Martin-Bishop returned to UAB and Childrens Hospital of Alabama to complete her pediatric dental residency. During this time, she received extensive training in preventive, restorative, and hospital dentistry for children. Dr. Martin- Bishop was selected as a Sparks Center Trainee where she received additional training in treating persons with special needs. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Birmingham District Dental Society and American Dental Association.
Dr. Martin-Bishop lives in Birmingham her sweet hubby, Fred, and their daughter Charleigh. She is a member of Church Of The Highlands and loves God, her family, and the Alabama Crimson Tide! She loves to read, travel, and cuddle with her sweet girl.

I had a work appointment that I needed to get to by 2:30pm and let the hygienist know. She finished the kids by 2:05pm and just needed the kids checked by the dentist. Dr. Bowman finished with a young patient and then saw a friend and had lengthy personal conversation of 5 minutes with a patient/ friend. I tried to be patient but really became frustrated when the conversation was regarding their vacation to the beach. Finally I asked if the hygienist could intervene & let her know I needed her to go ahead and look at them. She attempted but Dr. Bowman passed us to go to the patients on the opposite side of us. I was told by the hygienist we were next to be seen beforehand and this was upsetting to me. I told her we would just go on because I had an appointment. The hygienist went to let her know we needed to leave again and she refused to come over and directed to get Dr. Bishop to come over to look at the kids. Dr. Bishop was quick and addressed that one of my kids needed treatment. She was kind and accommodating. Later I called back to set the follow up to have my daughters cavities filled with them and requested Dr. Bishop and was told they couldn't accommodate that because of how they saw patients. I voiced that made me consider changing dentists altogether because I did not have a good experience with Dr. Bowman and detailed briefly what happened. The receptionist said in a ugly, smarty tone, "She would be happy to send her xrays elsewhere." I said, "I am sure you would, you clearly don't care how she treated us." She said in a hateful tone, "You don't know what I am thinking." So I just rescheduled the appointment and hung up. Kelly called back to inform me that Dr. Bowman was unaware that we needed to leave for another appointment and that she would never treat someone like I described above. Then she said this was Dr. Bowman's practice and that I needed to find someone else to provide dental care. I politely agreed. I have never been asked to leave a practice, I never yelled or cussed I just stated I had a poor experience and preferred one of the other dentists going forward when scheduling my appointment. There had been no issues prior to this day. The receptionist Kelly was rude and basically told me the things I said were not true and that it didn't happen. I think if I had been the dentist and learned there was a patient issue I might would have called the patient family to seek to understand what happened and try to make it right. But instead no apology and was asked to leave because I wanted one of the other dentists to take care of our children. I didn't want to change dental facilities at that point because she needed immediate care. Initially they scheduled her 5 weeks out to fill 3 cavities. I thought that seemed a little long for dental care and kind of felt Kelly did that to get me to go elsewhere. I didn't say anything about it so she called back within an hour to request for us to find a different dentist office. I have a new dentist 5 star rated who scheduled us for a dental care appointment following week. If I could communicate one thing in all of this an apology would have gone a long way from the Dentist and the receptionist could have worked to orchestrate been an advocate for this but instead was rude and a catalyst to her losing a client. I guess they do not value my business maybe because they have too many clients.

So this may be a duplicate... My grandchildren go here and it's amazing. Kori Stancil was so sweet and attentive with my grandson who was very anxious at the time and Nikki (don't have last name) was so kind and patiently answered all our questions. Love this place!

We are so thankful for Dr Bowman, Dr Nimer and their staff! They helped calm a child who was scared of everything in the office, even to sit in the chair! Dr Nimer was so patient with him, she even did his exam with him standing up just to calm his nerves! Later on, Dr Bowman helped us through an emergency dental situation on her day off, going above and beyond to ensure my child was taken care of. She even referred us for additional services the same day. We are blessed to have found these sweet ladies! Their patience, kindness, and concern for their patients tells you this is more than a job for them....it's a calling! I would give them 10 stars if I could and would definitely recommend them to anyone!

This pediatric dentist office is the best! My daughter was really nervous but the staff was VERY welcoming and friendly. The dentist comforted her. I was blown away by how patient and gentle she was. I was highly impressed. The atmosphere is one that kids will love. The employee in my photo was the dental hygienist. She was cleaning my daughter's teeth. She was super friendly, as well. From the receptionists, to the dental hygienist, to the dentist, I couldn't speak more highly of them. I was mistaken about my daughter's appointment but the receptionist kindly worked her in. I'm sure they couldn't do that every time but, she checked to see if it would work out that day and thankfully, it did! They gave her a fun bag with a little Disney toothbrush, kid's toothpaste and dental floss. The first visit, on the way out, they gifted her a slap bracelet and she received a scrunchie on the second visit. She had to have sealants and a cavity filled so they gave her a sugar free ice pop, that we have since started buying! I HIGHLY recommend this pediatric dentist office to any kid around! I intend to take my daughter her for years to come!

The rudest group of women I have ever met in my entire life! You think that working with children that they would have patience and be kind but that it is the complete opposite of this place! I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy! I could hear children screaming the entire time we were there and the hygienist looked like she hated her job. Anyone hardly communicated with me or my child! I will not be back and I'm so surprised that they have patients

First dentist appointment today! Very awesome play and television viewing area. Every employee was friendly and beautiful. The wait time in the back made my little one restless, but not terrible. Staff was really good with my baby, and non judge mental. We will be returning all the way from Blount County!
