Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Jason Parker - General dentist in Metairie, LA

Dr. Jason Parker of New Orleans, La., was named this years recipient of the New Dentist Award during the 128th Annual Session of the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA) on April 12, 2008, at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

The New Dentist Award is given to an individual member who has been in practice for less than 10 years, and who has made an outstanding contribution of his time and talents for the betterment of mankind. Such contributions include civic involvement, public service and unselfish devotion to the dental profession.

Dr. Parker received his bachelors degree in biology and a business administration minor from Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport. After completing his pediatric dental residency from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, Parker began private practice in 2001 with offices in Metairie and Slidell.

He has served LDA and NODA in many capacities, including serving as a delegate at the House of Delegates Annual Legislative Session, on the NODA Conference Committee, on the LDA Council on Communications, and on the LDA Council on Governmental Affairs. He was appointed to the NODA Board of Governors and he is the second vice president of NODA. Parker was bestowed the honor of 2004 New Dentist Award of Excellence by NODA.

From 2000-2004 Parker personally funded and also secured Rotary International Grants for an abroad dental project between the Rotary Club of the West Bank of New Orleans and the Rotary Club of Ocho Rios, Jamaica that was affectionately named Smiles from N.O. to Ocho. This project enabled Parker and his dental team to provide comprehensive dental care to thousands of children in Jamaica that otherwise may not have been able to receive it.

While serving as NODAs Chairman of Childrens Dental Health Month, he volunteered, set up, or helped raise money for events city wide at Childrens Hospital, the Louisiana Childrens Museum, Audubon Zoo, ABC Wide World of Sports three on three basketball regional championship, and Lakeside Mall, to name a few. He organized and promoted NODAs sponsorship of the popular childrens band Imagination Movers CD release party who have since moved on to nation wide fame through the Walt Disney Corporation.

Parker was instrumental in making the ADAs centerpiece Give Kids A Smile a success in New Orleans.

He worked with Operation Blessing Medical Volunteer Corps to set up a clinic for underprivileged children and delivered comprehensive dental care to more than 100 children in the most devastated and underserved areas of east New Orleans for NODA s Give Kids A Smile project post-Katrina. He has recently been asked to be a guest speaker in June at the ADAs Annual Give Kids A Smile Symposium in Chicago.

Parker assisted and played a major role in the American Dental Associations documentary titled Hurricane Katrina and Dentistry. This film portrayed the disaster, effects and impact of Hurricane Katrina on the dental profession in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. He was invited to San Francisco, Ca. to speak at the ADA Annual Session alongside Barbara Walters to report on the status of the dental profession two years post Katrina.

Parker has been or currently is on the medical staff at East Jefferson Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Tulane Hospital for Children, Northshore Regional Medical Center, West Jefferson Medical Center and Childrens Regional Hospital.

My son has been seeing Dr. Parker & his staff for 10 years now. The environment is so awesome for children (decorated under the sea). They have TVs above each cleaning station to help distract or entertain the children during cleaning. My son loves getting his goodie bag after each visit. The receptionist are patient with choosing appointment times or having to reschedule. And Dr. Parker is so great with my son! We recommend them to EVERYONE!

He's a white collar purloiner. He does unnecessary procedures on pediatric dental patients and many of them in the hospital, under general anesthesia. I can't even imagine how he is still in business. My 24 year old will spend the rest of his life dealing with the damage Dr. Parker inflicted on his dental and overal health.

This dentist and his staff, in particular, are so rude, unhelpful, and disrespectful. They over charge for procedures. They talk about finances in front of other patients in the receptionist area. I will never have my child go to see Dr Jason Parker again. Look for other dentist, this business does not care about you, your child, nor customer service.

When my child was 3yrs old brought him there. The dr was rude and short every visit. He ended up doing an unecessary procedure in the hospital removing both front teeth and replacing them. This procedure failed and my son has been without front teeth and he is now 7. His new dentist said she has had many of his patients transfer to her with similar complaints. Please don't use this guy.

My kids always have a great experience when we have our appointments. The staff is always polite, nice and helpful. Even when I call on the phone everyone is so nice. My kids are no longer anxious about going to the dentist.

Dr. Jason is extraordinary! He has such a positive attitude and he's awesome with kids. He gave me so much comfort and peace regarding a procedure with my 2yr old son that I was absolutely scared about. Since then, I've had another kid and both my babies see him, I refuse to see any other dentist. I highly recommend him!! You'll love him.

Don't ever bring your kids here. He disrespected my daughter that is 3 telling her to shut up when she started crying because of multiple failed attempts to fix her crown. And they took out more teeth then original planned without telling us. Don't go here and the doctor is very unprofessional.

As parents our main goals are to protect and provide for our children. I felt that my parental responsibilities were not respected after my experience with Dr. Parkers office. My daughter had an appointment to receive a simple filling or so I thought. The dental assistant called my daughters name and told me that they would get her started and then call me to the back. After some time elapsed I was called and told "shes all done". To my disbelief they had indeed completed the work without me being present but to make matters worse they actually did not explain to me what treatment had been completed. After inquiring I was told by the assistant that my daughter had a crown placed. I was very appalled that there wasn't a explanation provided by Dr Parker himself. I attempted to move past that since my daughter was in pain and very upset. During the check out process I was told that there was some additional fees that I had incurred because there was an additional tooth that had to be repaired. I became increasingly more concerned and asked for further details about my daughters treatment, and when I did I was lied to and told that the dentist was with a patient. I became more assertive and ironically they told me that someone would speak to me. I was escorted to the back and ironically Dr Parker was not with a patient and he came into the room to speak with me. At the beginning of the conversation he was obviously flustered ,agitated and began the conversation with negative connotation. He pulled up the Xray and attempted to show me her cavity and that it was bigger than he expected. As the conversation continues he stated that I didn't look happy and that I should be because he waived the additional fees. I explained to him that it was never about the financial obligations but that I was severely disappointed regarding the lack of courtesy and respect that I would have hoped for from him and staff. I see that he is becoming aggressive in front of my daughter so I decided to deescalate the situation and end the interaction at that moment. On my ride home my daughter informed me that" Dr Parker is bad mommy" "I was crying and he yelled at me and said oooo be quiet" This broke my heart and I decided I wanted to share my experience with other parents to avoid this dentist at all costs. The lack of communication displays a lack of respect for children and their guardians. I trusted them not only to perform a service but to have my daughters best interest at heart. There is a certain code of conduct that one would expect from a pediatric dentist. Dr Parker doesn't possess any of those characteristics. He is not compassionate, encouraging nor does his rude disposition lend for a kid friendly nurturing environment
