Pearl Street Dental - General dentist in Boulder, CO

Mom knows best. When Iwas uncertain about my career path, she suggested dentistry. It took exactly one day shadowing my family dentist to know that it was the path for me. Three months later my applications were completed and a life-long passion for dentistry began at Columbia University's College of Dental Medicine. While there, I held numerous student government positions, was the editor of the yearbook in my 4th year, and received the Pierre Fauchard Academy award at graduation in 2005. The year after was spent in a general practice residency at the James JPeters VA Hospital in the Bronx, NY learning how to manage more complicated restorative needs.

A career built on service. Prior to owning Pearl Street Dental, Ipracticed in corporate offices that had been abandoned by the surrounding community. Through care, consistency, and skill, I grew those practices through word of mouth to be very successful and reputable. The last 6+ years, Ipoured my heart into an office in Thornton, CO.

The PandemicShift. Like many of us, the pandemic initiated a discussion about the career Ihad and the one Icould have. Ultimately, my decision to become a practice owner came from a desire to expand my skills and the treatments Icould offer patients. Dr Higgins built an amazing, technology-forward practice with wonderful people for me to care for, and Iam so happy and honored to be here.

The Balance. While dentistry still motivates and excites, I pursue my off time with as much gusto. I moved to Boulder the summer of 2013 to get more out of my summers than Iwas living in Dallas. Since moving here, Ihave done my first century ride, an Ironman 70.3, run 12 marathons, and qualified for the Boston marathon 6 times. I also have a lovely wife, Saba, and my young daughter, Amaya at home. Together, we walk our aging dog, Claude, go to the park, and spending most of April-June in our organic garden, weeding, planting flowers and vegatables, cursing how much work it is, and grinning big when a passerby shouts compliments from their car. Filled with wanderlust and a desire to see the history Ihave read, I have also travelled extensively through the years, visiting 35 countries as a backpacker well past the age it is normal to do so, enjoying long journeys through India, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and most of the territory controlled by the Ottoman Empire.

For many reasons, I have decided to retire from dentistry and pursue other interests. At 67, I feel great and I do not want to delay spending more time with my family and dear friends. My hilarious and striving sons have flown the coop and now they are hard to keep up with. I feel this is the perfect time for me to create more space in my life to play with my sons. Many great adventures and extended trips with my family and friends await me. My big dumb boat is coming up from Guatemala soon. So many things and not enough time.

As this is a well regarded practice in the Boulder Community, I had several choices in the sale of this practice. I picked Dr. Moynier because of his sense of integrity and for his passion to learn and grow. Please give my careful choice the same respect and gratitude for service you gave me.

Dr. Mark Moynier (Moyn-yay) brings 15 years of clinical experience to this practice. His undergraduate degree in Chemistry was earned at Middlebury College in Vermont. He received his doctorate in dental surgery in 2005 from Columbia University in New York. Like me, Dr. Moynier loves to travel and explore the world. While in dental school, he participated in an externship in Ege University in Izmir, Turkey. Dr. Moynier is an avid backpacker. He has visited over 35 countries, including India, the Middle East, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Dr. Moynier has been a resident in the Boulder community since 2013. When he is not doing dentistry, you can find him dancing with his 5 year old daughter, running marathons, skiing and cycling.

He is eager to continue providing the same procedures and services that you expect fromPearl Street Dental. In the next few months, I will be around as a resource so he learns all of the nuances that make this practice so special. I am excited to have you meet Dr. Moynier, as I am confident he intends to carry on the tradition of empathy and quality care that you have known. Our office will be offering a 10% discount on services with Dr. Moynier in the month of January and 5% in February (this excludes exams and cleanings). This email must be mentioned to receive the discount.

I hope to see many of you in the days to come. I will begin to have a diminished role in the office beginning December 15, 2021. I so want to thank ALL of you for your trust and good will. You have been a wonderful part of my life. You have influenced me greatly. I cherish your stories and the experiences we have shared together. It has been a joy to be involved in your care.

Dr. Walker is a fabulous dentist, who has created a wonderful in-clinic experience for clients. She knows her stuff. I've been coming here for years and years, always great service, attention and care. Highly recommend.

Everyone was very kind and professional; however, I did not enjoy my experience. My appointment was rescheduled twice before arriving, and once I was there I still had to wait an additional hour in the middle of my appointment because of their schedule. I had scheduled for an evaluation and cleaning, informing them ahead of time that it had been quite a long time since my last check up, but was then told that to perform the deep cleaning I would have to be scheduled an additional 6-8 weeks out (then again after) and the cost would be over ten times what I was originally quoted on the phone. Lastly, I was told the doctor would review my X-rays and advise me on what should be done about my wisdom tooth, but that did not happen, and I was given no additional advice or instruction for home dental care. Overall, I spent $200 to be told what I already knew.

I have been going here for several years now and truly appreciate my care here. Prior to coming here, I went to a dentist in Broomfield on Nickel St and had the worst experience. Needless to say, I was hesitant to go to see ANY dentist following that experience. Pearl Street Dental has always felt safe and undoubtedly, a superior experience to any other dentist I have been to. I recently had a hygienist, Shannon, who was wonderful. She was professional, thoughtful around details, and seemed to truly care about my overall well-being. I think my kids would really appreciate her energy. Thank you again, Pearl Street Dental :)

Everyone at Pearl St Dental has been great. The advice on how to improve my dental care has been exemplary. I've also had lots of difficult dental work done lately in which they did a thorough and excellent job.

Transition from Dr. Higgins (who recently retired) to Dr. Moynier was smooth and greatly appreciated they could fit me in immediately to address a painful tooth issue.

I cannot say, "thank you" enough for your honesty and consideration. Thank you for listening and considering my needs as unique to me. This is truly empowering, and my (life) experience today with Dr. Moynier was just right! ~Carol Keeter

AMAZING care. My son is a student at CU and had a dental emergency that came up on a Friday night. I was able to leave a direct message for Dr. Moynier that evening and he called me first thing Saturday morning. He then shifted his day around to get my son in on a Saturday (they aren't even open on Saturday) and quickly assessed the situation and a game plan. Really lovely care, really lovely doctor.

Dr. Higgins was the reason I came to this practice. He was warm, kind and very empathic to clients who have a history of childhood dental work trauma and came very highly recommended. And while Nitrous was not available for fear and anxiety, Dr. Higgins offered a small prescription of anxiety reducing medication to take the day of the procedure. Unfortunately during the pandemic he chose to retire (well deserved of course) and even more unfortunate is that the practice is now in the hands of Dr. Moynier. And while the details of my time with Dr. Moynier are pertinent, I will instead cut to the chase: After almost 6 hours in the chair and a very significant amount of trauma as the pain & anxiety medication wore off midway as did much of the anesthetic, I was most struck by the profound absence of warmth, kindness and empathy offered. They were very clearly in a rush to get to the next patient and as I sat shaking in the chair they simply offered me a tissue to wipe my tears instead of any real acknowledgment of my visible suffering. Afterwards nothing additional was offered with the exception of all of the work he would still need to do in the future. And when I was told he would be adding an additional procedure and drilling a hole into a tooth it was not communicated to me that it was being drilled into a very expensive porcelain crown I had had done by a previous dentist. The very worst part for me was actually the simple fact that no one from the office (not the Dr., the assistant, or even the the of front office manager whom I happen to really like) called me the next day or in the following days to see how I was feeling after a very long and visibly traumatizing visit to their office. NO.ONE.CALLED. ??? What? Even our Veterinarian calls following a significant appointment for our pets. I am truly shocked by my experience and am confused by how to proceed as I was told AFTER the appointment had completed that I had only been given a "temporary" filling in my now destroyed crown and would need to return should I wish to have a permanent filling done. The communication throughout was poor, I felt as though I was insignificant throughout, it was rushed due to the amount of time they clearly didn't anticipate that I needed despite my X-rays at the beginning of the appointment and most importantly the tremendous lack of empathy I experienced in regards to any follow up to my very long, clearly traumatizing and very expensive day in the chair. At what point will dentists choose to recognize the significant psychological, emotional impact that having hours of sustained dental/physical trauma has on an individual? Can dentists and their staff be educated to understand how the simplest acts of kindness and even a quick telephone follow up can significantly shift the experience for the patient? This feels like Basic Human Kindness 101 to me. And it also feels like so little to ask. P.S. Two weeks later I am still in significant pain and discomfort and still have not heard from anyone in the office. Needless to say I can no longer recommend Pearl Street Dental.

Today I had my bi-annual cleaning with Lindsay, who has been my excellent oral hygienist for the past six years. Pearl Street Dental is very lucky to have her as an employee!

I love coming here because the staff is so friendly. Laura did a great job on my teeth cleaning and the new dentist Dr. Moynier was knowledgeable and kind as well. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

This is the best possible dental care on every level. Dr. Higgins and his staff provide the mostly highly skilled dental care available anywhere. His hygienists are top caliber, and his own skills are unsurpassed - you should see his crowns! Over the 20+ years I've been coming to Dr. Higgins, I've watched him continually upgrade to the most modern technology, resulting in the best possible care. A "nervous" patient (from a bad experience as a child), I've had nothing but comfortable and reassuring visits, and my teeth are ready to take on the world. You can't do better.

Dr. Elliot is absolutely fantastic. He only does work that is necessary, which I have found so rare in the dental world. He is patient and attentive. He is, by far, one of the best dentists out there.

Pearl Street Dental is amazing! Dr. Higgins is top notch with a great sense of humor to boot, and always helps explain whatever is going on with any procedure he's performing. Additionally, the hygienists are all fantastic, incredibly professional, and do a fantastic job. Going to the dentist isn't always the most fun thing to do, but the team at Pearl Street Dental makes every visit smooth, quick, and (relatively) painless!
