Pearl Dental Care was started by Dr. Gary Pearl in Chimney Square on Dixwell Avenue in 1987. The practice started from scratch with initially only 1 dental treatment room. With a burgeoning reputation the practice grew enough to support a dental hygienist and within a few years a greatly expanded dental team.
Since 1999 we have been located in our current location on Dixwell Avenue closer to the Parkway. The core values of the practice remain as important today as they were in 1987- to build relationships with our patients and provide them with the latest dental technology and an overall genuine experience.
Technology has advanced greatly since our founding and Dr. Garys son, Scott, is now a partner in the practice. Looking ahead, we hope to continue acquiring the latest in dental technology and increasing our community presence.
Dr. Gary Pearl graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1978 with a BS in pharmacy and the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 1984. He continued training and refining his skills in his general practice residency at Park City Hospital in Bridgeport, CT from 1984 to 1985. Dr. Pearl is a graduate of the world renowned Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, FL and in 2005 achieved the highest Academy of General Dentistry honor- Mastership (MAGD).
Dr. Scott Pearl is a native ofConnecticut and is proud to be part of the Pearl Dental Care team. Dr. Scott Pearl attended college at the University of Connecticut, earning a BS in Finance. He continued his education at Quinnipiac University, earning a Master of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology. Dr. Pearl graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and completed residency training at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY.

Prior to earning the prestigious Mastership award, Dr. Pearl earned the Fellowship award (FAGD). Requirements for the Fellowship award include taking hundreds of hours of continuing education courses and passing a comprehensive examination. However, becoming an MAGD requires over a thousand hours of approved continuing education courses and is even more specialized. As an Academy of General Dentistry Master, Dr. Pearl is fully committed to providing the highest level of care.
Dr. Pearl is an exceedingly skilled dentist with many clinical interests including cosmetics, dental implants, dentures, and root canal therapy. In addition, Dr. Pearl excels at using lasers to treat gum disease and dental implants to replace lost or missing teeth. Dr. Pearl is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Connecticut State Dental Association, the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Pearl is one of the very few general dentists in CT who is licensed to performDental Conscious IV Sedation. Prior to earning his permit, Dr. Pearl completed advanced training at The Albert Einstein College of Medicine/ Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. Intravenous sedation allows Dr. Pearl to treat patients who would otherwise be fearful of seeing a dentist.
To fulfill his need to help patients without access to care, Dr. Pearl and his team at Pearl Dental Care have offered Dentistry From The Heart, an event each spring that offers free dental care for those in need.
Dr. Pearl has been married for 38 years and has two children and three grandchildren. His daughter works in non-profit education in NYC and his son is Dr. Scott at Pearl Dental Care. While Dr. Pearl may think about cutting back soon, he doesnt plan to retire from dentistry for many years because he loves his profession so much. In his free time he enjoys golf, skiing, and babysitting his grandchildren.

From the age of 5 Dr. Pearl always wanted to become a dentist. Dr. Pearl provides comprehensive family dental care to all ages including young children. Some of Dr. Pearls clinical interests include CEREC, dental implants,laser dentistry, Invisalign, and dentures. Other areas of his practice include TMJ treatment, cosmetic veneers, and digital dentistry. Dr. Pearl believes in getting to know his patients well and optimizing their oral health. He believes that quality dental care can have profound effects on a patients physical and mental well-being.In 2021, Dr. Pearl became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, a milestone reached by only 6% of dentists in the US.When you see a dentist with FAGD after their name, you can rest assured that they care about knowing the latest techniques and best practices in dentistry. AGD Fellows practice these techniques in a classroom setting multiple times a year not every dentist does this.
