Short for cone beam computed tomography, CBCT is an imaging technology that allows us to evaluate your underlying bone structure, nerve pathways, and surrounding soft tissues. It is instrumental to planning complex treatments such as dental implants because it provides a more in-depth and complete picture than digital x-rays. During a CBCT scan, the imaging machine rotates entirely around your head and captures about 150-200 images from different angles in less than a minute. These are compiled into a single 3D image that we use to personalize precise procedures to fit your unique dental anatomy, thereby ensuring successful outcomes and a faster, easier recovery.

As part of our commitment to the latest, most efficient dental technologies, we invested in an iTero scanner. This special handheld wand digitally captures the structure of your teeth and gums with incredible speed and accuracy. Its compact, easy to use, and can be stopped and started as many times as desired during the scanning process. After the iTero scanning is complete, we can use the digital map to create a variety of treatments focused on improving your smile and bite, including crowns and Invisalign.

Short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or Ceramic Reconstruction, CEREC has revolutionized restorative dentistry with major refinements made over the last three decades. While you sit in the dental chair, we take digital impressions that provide a 3D foundation for designing your new dental crown. Next, this information is sent to our in-house CEREC milling machine which etches the crown from a single block of durable ceramic. Color matching and polishing are done while you wait and once we make any minor adjustments, the natural-looking dental crown is bonded to your tooth. This amazing process takes only two hours or so, offers unsurpassed convenience, eliminates messy dental impressions, and is more precise than traditional crowns. Your new crown is strong and durable (with proper care) for long-lasting, natural beauty.

Many efforts have been made to develop new bioactive additives that promote and accelerate wound healing, regulate inflammation, and improve soft and hard tissue regeneration. Two that we offer are plasma rich growth factor (PRGF) and plasma-rich fibrin (PRF). PRGF is a type of plasma enriched with proteins and circulating growth factors that aids in bone and soft tissue regeneration, while PRF contains greater concentrations of leukocytes (white blood cells), platelets, and specific stem cells. The white blood cells impart a controlled inflammatory response that targets problem areas, stem cells help regenerate new cells, and platelets stimulate collagen production and rejuvenation. Both of these advanced healing techniques are created from a sample of your blood. The samples are spun in the tubes in a centrifuge, with the top portions drawn up to obtain PRGF or PRF that we place over the treated area to promote healing.

Dr. Salem has been practicing dentistry since 1996, and she possesses the knowledge and skill that only an experienced dentist can provide. For over 15 years, she has worked hard to earn the trust of hundreds of men, women, and families through her dedicated approach. In fact, the vast majority of her patients were referred by people who have already experienced her unique brand of capable, caring, and down-to-earth dentistry firsthand! In her own words:

Dr. Salem is actually the first person in her family to attend college, and she quickly learned during her pre-med years that she had a drive for helping patients and catering treatment to the individual. Everyone deserves to have healthy teeth and the dedicated, compassionate education it takes to reach that point. After being a stay-at-home mom for several years and raising five children, she returned to school to complete her advanced training and additionally discovered that she was exceptionally passionate about specialty dentistry after completing endodontic and implant courses, as well as the latest developments in dental technology. Years later, shes never looked back!

As a biology major and premed student, Dr. Gallagher had two career options in front of him medicine and dentistry. He was a constant dental patient as an adolescent and was always intrigued by how his dentists approach to care, both for him and other people in need. Today, he is still very thankful that he chose this path! Its been an extremely rewarding experience through and through.

After attending Columbia University for his undergraduate, Dr. Gallagher achieved his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he has over 40 years of continuing education in dentistry, constantly studying the latest techniques and technologies so his care remains modern and up-to-date. He is a certified Invisalign and Six Month Smiles provider, as well as a proud lifelong member of both the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Association.

Dr. Gallagher is married with three grown children and four grandchildren. In his free time, youll often find him playing golf and traveling to popular golf destinations on vacation. He also regularly works out at the local YMCA and enjoys swimming and playing cribbage with his friends. He also spends plenty of quality time with his family, of course.

Dr. Regan always knew she wanted to help people maintain positive health. However, she recognized that many people dont realize the impact that teeth have on every aspect of their well-being, which is why she felt inclined to pursue dentistry. As someone who specializes in endodontics, one of Dr. Regans favorite aspects of being an Endodontist is helping others understand that treatments like root canal therapy do not have to be a difficult or uncomfortable experience.

While Dr. Regan has 23 years of experience in her field, she has spent five years with us at Pearl Dental Associates and we couldnt be happier to have her serving our community exceptional dental care.

Originally from Medford, MA, Dr. Regan attended Matignon High School. She then attended Tufts University to earn a BS in Biology, then attended the universitys Dental School to earn her DMD. From there, she completed a two-year advanced program to earn a degree in Endodontics. With the schools mascot being an elephant named Jumbo, having three separate degrees from the school makes her a triple Jumbo!

When Dr. Regan is doing everything she can to save teeth, youll find her spending time with her 21-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter, working out at the gym, and going for walks. She finds exercise to be a great stress reliever, loves the summer season, and spends a great deal of her free time at the beach. She also enjoys boating, fishing, sailing, and taking warm weather vacations to break up the long New England weathers. One interesting fact about her is that she does not eat meat.
