Paul Schafer grew up in the east bay. He graduated from the College of Engineering at U.C. Berkeley, where he earned a letter in crew and served on the Engineering Joint Council. After working as an electrical engineer and project leader for Hewlett-Packard, he was accepted to U.C. San Francisco Dental School. There he was honored to serve as class president of his class, and received the Chancellor Fleming Award and a Certificate of Commendation from the dean. He also received achievement awards from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the Academy of Operative Dentistry. After graduation in 1994, Dr. Schafer served as a part-time member of the faculty for over 18 years. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.
Dr. Schafer continues to study the latest advances in dentistry in such areas as lasers and implants with the nations foremost clinicians. This passion for education allows him to offer state-of-the-art techniques with an emphasis on prevention. Dr. Schafer is one of only a handful of dentists in the bay area to have been awarded a Fellowship from the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry in recognition of his training in the most advanced methods in saving teeth.
If a tooth truly needs a crown, or a conservative tooth-colored composite filling, Dr. Schafers office is one of only five offices in Marin County equipped to use a surgical operating microscope for these treatments.
In recognition of Dr. Schafers continuing commitment to expand his skills and dental knowledge by completing over a thousand hours of continuing education classes, he was awarded a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2007. Less than 1% of all dentists in the United States have achieved this honor, including only two dentists practicing in Marin County. Despite his clinical accolades, Dr. Schafer takes time to listen to his patients individual needs so he can best help them make informed choices about their dental health.
Dr. Schafer is active many professional societies. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Northern California Academy of General Dentistry, the California Dental Association, and the Marin County Dental Society.

Dr Schafer is very friendly and down to earth. He explains everything in a caring way. I have had many dentists in the past and Dr. Schafer is by far the best, and almost painless. I'm not scared of going to this dentist, unlike every previous ones.

Highly recommend Dr. Shafer for any dental work, his work is outstanding and the compassionate staff just makes for the best experiences I've ever had. Doctor Schafer and his team are absolutely knowledgeable, kind, and what I like the most is that they explain in detail the procedure they are going to do the day of your appointment before they start with it. And, of course I was trilled to see the amazing job he did with the filling of my tooth. You can not tell I have a filling. Doctor Schafer and his staff over fulfilled my expectations not only of the health of my teeth, but the appearance as well!!!

Dr. Schafer did an excellent job replacing fillings on 3 teeth. Upon returning home, there was no pain and I felt only a little numbing from the Novocain. The next day, it didn't even feel like I had been to the dentist. Perfect!

Best dentist I've had. He has a way of explaining things well and he is an advocate of preventative care. He also has a good heart and cracks jokes. Staff is friendly and accomodating. Just go, you won't regret it.
