What you seek when choosing a new dentist is a personal decision. Its an important choice, as youll likely have a long-term relationship, possibly lasting decades. As with any medical practitioner, you want to know the persons training, their experience, and their continuing education to remain current and up-to-date with the latest technology and procedures.

You also want to know your dentist is a part of the community. If you ask anyone in Pasadena, Texas, theyre likely to have known of Dr. Covell through his involvement with local Little League Baseball, Red Bluff Elementary School, Sam Rayburn High School Choir and Athletics Booster Clubs, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and 40+ years in the local Rotary Club.

If youre new to Dr. Covell and our team, your first visit will take just a little bit longer than a routine visit as well need to get a little of your dental and physical health history. Its likely we will also take x-rays of your teeth. That gives us a starting point for your future treatments. Dr. Covell wants a complete look at whats going on inside your teeth, gums, and the supporting bone structures.

Next, your hygienist will measure your gums to check for any recession. Receding gums are one of the early signs of gum disease, or it can be a sign that youre brushing a little too hard. These gum measurements will serve as benchmarks for future visits.

Dr. Covell will then come in and do a thorough overall check of your teeth and gums. He will use a pick to probe your teeth. Hell check the fissures in your molars, where decay can build. Hell check your gums for any pockets or areas where the gums are bleeding. Hell look at their color (they should be bubble gum pink). Finally, hell check for any signs of oral cancer. This will involve checking under your tongue, feeling the glands in your upper neck, and looking for any visual clues to the presence of cancer.

You are over the top. Dr. Covell and associates always explain your dental situation and your options both physical and financial. By far the most honest and helpful dentist I have ever used. Of course, I recommend this practice to anyone who will listen. Thank you so much!

Also, problems such as decay are easily removed and addressed when its only been six months since we last saw you. But if that decay is allowed to progress, it can enter the inner tooth, the dentin, and the pulp will become infected. This will cause serious pain and the tooth will now need a root canal to save it from extraction. Through our use of radiograph technology, we can spot dental problems very early in their progression. But we cant do that if we dont see you.

We are continually surprised by the way many patients give their teeth only cursory attention. They worry about the oil changes of their car more than the care of their teeth. Thats a shame because its not difficult; good home hygiene only takes a few minutes a day, and its likely to keep you from ever having to deal with serious dental issues like gum disease.

  • Brush for two minutes, working your way around the front and the back of all teeth, brushing in a circular motion. Also brush your gums (but not too aggressively), the roof of your mouth, and your tongue.
  • Floss once daily. Take about 18 inches of floss and wrap it around your index fingers, leaving about three inches in between. Take this and move up and down the side of each tooth, starting at the back of the furthest back molar and working around the entire arch. Move the floss just under the edge of the gumline and then back up.

All is well with the most recent visit! The new hygienist is great addition! Tough to replace Dawn, but happy that she is enjoying her retirement. My compliments to Joan who quickly researched my insurance questions before I left!

Paul B Covell, DDS informed me that I needed 5 filling when I went there only for a cleaning. Had had a checkup less than 6 months before which gave me the all clear, so chose to get a second opinion. The other dentist stated this was over treatment and I didn't need the have anything don't at this time. Really glad I didn't have 5 filling for nothing.
