Dr. Paul Schmutz has been a practicing dentist for 30 years. After graduating from the University of Utah he attended the Medical College of Virginia Dental School, graduating in 1990 and has spent his career in the Salt Lake and Davis County areas. He has been in his current location going on 14 years and is very happy to be practicing in the same community where he lives, plays and serves. Teeth are often taken for granted, but no matter your health or longevity without them your quality of everyday living will decrease. Hollywood smiles are great, but pain free functional teeth can be even better. Dr. Schmutz loves dentistry and helping patients achieve the outcomes they want and need.

He loves his patients and thinks of them more as friends and family than just a person with a cavity or toothache. He isnt in a hurry to get you in and out, loves to talk dentistry explaining the different procedures but with an emphasis on prevention and how to keep your mouth healthy. Todays dentistry has lots of options and the same solution doesnt work for every patient. In 30 years, dentistry has made many improvements with new materials for treating patients, continuing education is vital to stay current so that you as the patient can receive the best care. He is a member of the Spears Study Group and attends other study opportunities whenever possible.

In his spare time, Dr. schmutz loves to get outside and enjoy many activities associated with nature with his family and friends. Back in High School he was introduced to whitewater rafting and has been an avid rafter for decades, rafting many of the rivers here in the west. When the water is frozen you can find him skiing the greatest snow on earth. He also enjoys hiking and biking. He and his family are halfway through a goal to hike the highest point in each county of Utah. Because of his love for the backcountry for many years he has lectured at the University of Utah School of Medicine discussing and teaching wilderness dentistry topics.

Kathleen was born on the Idaho side of Bear Lake. She worked as a dental Assistant until 1996. She then went to Weber State to get her degree in dental Hygiene. Kathleen has two adult children. She enjoys being out in the world. LOVES to travel when ever she can.

Sofiawas born and raised in Salt Lake City. She went to school in 1995 to become a Dental Assistant and startedworking with Dr Schmutz right after finishing school. She worked for Dr Schmutz for two years and then stopped to raise her two children. She returned to work with Dr Schmutz in 2008 and has been here eversince. She is known for her very out going and friendly personality.
