The best dentistry is patientcentered. By learning your goals, respecting your concerns, and exploring all treatment options,Dr. Peter Pastrell, Dr. Justin Buchanan, and Dr. Chad Hartzell ensure every visit will haveyou smiling!

You will never feel like an anonymous set of teeth in a chair or number on a chart. Instead, we promise to remember your name, recall whats important to you, and provide the same level of leading-edge care wed offer a family member.

Since 1980, weve delivered advanced dentistry to the Rogue Valley. Our practice has grown by wordofmouth, which is the greatest affirmation of the level of care we provide. Were thrilled now to see the children and grandchildren of some of our first patients come through the doors!

You and your loved ones deserve clinical treatment thats comfortable, efficient, and effective. Our doctors and team regularly take continuing education, to staycurrent on new treatment approaches and technology, and ensureyou receive the best care for your needs.

From an inviting reception area to doctors and staff who will greet you by name and with warm smiles, were here to help you. Please tell us what you need, what youre seeking in care, and well do our best to provide. We want you to enjoy coming to see us!

I love being a dentist. Its a hands-on profession in whichI work closely with my patients. God made each person unique and I appreciate their company, and the stories they share, as we work together to improve their dental health.

Ive been part of the practice for more than 15 years and have enjoyed seeing families change and grow during that time. I particularly like working with people who are restoring their oral health and their smile. Theres a lot of personal and professional joy when a person is able to smile with confidence ...and I love seeing those big, bright, wonderful smiles in the community!

We have an incredible group of people here at the practice. Each is committed to making patients feel at home, safe, and well cared for during visits. They are people-oriented and try to make sure every patient has a comfortable, smooth experience and leaves with a smile!

After receiving my dental degree, I served our country as a dentist in the U.S. Navy from 1996 to 1999. During that time, I completed my general practice residency at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Continuing education is a core part of my commitment to my profession, my patients, and myself. Throughout the year I take a range of postgraduate coursesto staycurrent on new methodologies and technology. This ensures patients receive the best treatment for their needs.

I grew up in Renoand moved to Grants Pass after serving in the United States Navy. I have 3 children - Parker, Paige and Presley. We all enjoy the outdoors and we play various sports together including basketball, volleyball and tennis.

I also enjoy playing acoustic guitar - I play folk style figerpicking guitar as well as Chrisitian music and top current hits. You may hear some 80's music playing at the office. You can also find us playing piano and maybe doing some juggling at home.

I have devoted half of my life to helping people save, fix, and restore their teeth. I truly love being a dentist and being a partner with each patient as we improve their oral health, move them out of pain, and give them a smile they love.

My grandfather, father, and older brother were/are dentists. I saw, from an early age, the love and enjoyment my father found in being a dentist, and was drawn to the profession. Ive always loved working with my hands and knew I needed to be of service to others. Becoming a dentist was the perfect fit.

We have a friendly, compassionate, and educated team. Each member treats patients in a professional and courteous way. We listen to patients, respect their individual concerns, and strive to accommodate their needs. Its a great feeling when patients tellme they look forward to coming in because they appreciate our welcoming, supportive environment.

After completing my dental degree, I served our country as a dentist in the U.S. Army. In 2002-2003 I completed an advanced education in general dentistry residency at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.I was then deployed to Iraq; it was a difficult and dangerous year, but also rewarding and an experience I will never forget.

Continuing education is an important part of my daily practice. It helps me utilize new techniques, materials, and protocols that improve my patients care and outcome. I complete many courses each year, and studyadvances in general dentistry as well as implant dentistry and bone and soft tissue grafting.

Im an Oregon native, having grown up in Bend. Grants Pass has been home to my family and me since I joined the practice in 2006. My wife Emily and I have been married for 20 years and have four children: Brandon, Melanie, Olivia, and Kianna. We live on a farm with three horses, two donkeys, two goats, a chicken, 13 ducks, three dogs, and two cats!

When Im not in the office, I love being with my family, especially camping or road-tripping in our motor home. I also enjoy DIY projects, love taking care of the yard, and am a drummer and can often be found playing my drums.

Dentistry allows me to have a significant impact on how people feel about themselves and their quality of life. As a dentist, improving peoples lives and eliminating dental problems is a big personal motivator and brings a smile to my face. No one wants a toothache, and when you get one, it affects everything in your life. Being able to correct debilitating issues makes my day!

I am most passionate about creating healthy smiles. With good habits, proper nutrition, and excellent home hygiene, everyone can keep their teeth for life. I do all I can to help patients stay healthy so they can enjoy life, and I love checkups whenthe patient is cavity-free, has healthy teeth and gums, and a great smile.

Our team members are caring and compassionate. Each is a highlytrainedprofessional, and focuses on every patients needs and expectations. Many have been part of the practice for years, soour office feels like a large family. Patients respond to that environment and appreciate how kind and attentive everyone is.

However, I know that the latest isnt always the greatest. If and when a new option arrives that lowers costs, improves longevity, increases comfort, is more efficient, functions more naturally, and looks great, then Im ready to implement it. Continuing education helps me evaluate options for our patients.

I grew up right here in Grants Pass/Merlin, as did my wifeFran, who went to high school at Hidden Valley. We are fortunate to live in an area with such a large network of family and friends and are thankful to be raising our two young children, Graham and Ellie, here. Were lucky to have Grandma, Grandpa, and Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa so close and involved with our lives.

When Im not in the office, I love spending time outdoors: rafting, water and snow skiing, riding motorcycles in the dirt and on the sand, and playing soccer. My greatest joy, though, is being with my wife and two wonderful kids.

Dr. Buchanan is the best!! I've suffered from severe dental anxiety most of my life and have some truly horrific tales I could tell. Dr. B is so compassionate, kind, and willing to take the extra time that working on me often requires. I've got nothing but awesome things to say about his team. They've all truly gone above and beyond to help me feel comfortable and in control of what's happening. I 110% recommend him to anyone who's had bad dental experiences in the past. He listens, understands, and does everything he possibly can to make your visit a good experience.

Barbara, office manager, is a world class liar. I went in to dispute some charges because this office has a habit of charging you twice what they quoted you. She told me "we have never ever been in network with your insurance." I told her "yes you have, I spoke to someone at customer service and they verified that this office was in network from July 13, 2020 to October 6, 2021." She began to interrupt me and I said "let me finish." She said I needed to leave and she would contact my insurance and prove to me that they weren't in network." I told her I was not going to leave until we discussed my bill." She then told me "you need to leave my office right now!" I said "no I will not leave until we discuss these charges." She YELLED "get out of my office now!" I said "no, I will not. I have a right to dispute these charges." I asked her to get Dr Pastrell and I will discuss it with him. She then got Dr Hartzell (whom I had never met.) I proceeded to explain to him and I explained that as soon as I told her they were indeed in network with my insurance that she yelled at me to get out of her office, she IMMEDIATELY said that she NEVER said that. I left the office stating that I would pay my bill in full right then and there and I will never step back into that office again. I paid them $700 on a bill that was quoted us to be $357.

I love the staff and my dentist, from the beginning of my visit lindsey always greeting me with a smile and a friendly hello to Kathleen making sure I'm comfortable for my procedure to the end with Dr. Buchanan giving me the best dentistry care I've ever had. I couldn't ever imagine going to any other dentist. I highly recommend him and their staff to take care of any of your dental needs.

Dentist is mediocre at best. It's ironic that the web site states in the bio that the goal is to build trust and make friendships because they are anything but friendly. The dentist hardly said two words to me during my visits over the few years I was going. Instead, he would pretty much ignore me and talk with the oral hygienist about everything but work. He also gave me a filling between two molars, and I complained to him that it was catching food and getting it stuck between my teeth and irritating the gum. Yes, I floss regularly, but food would get stuck at every meal. The dentist told me that it wasn't his filling that was catching the food, but my teeth were the problem. Funny, I had never had this problem before the filling. Also, billing is terrible. The office manager does not understand insurances at all, and she is indeed very rude and condescending as another post put it. She included work on my kids' teeth that my insurance didn't cover, and blamed it on me for not being in there with my teens and dentist during the visit to stop the dentist from doing work outside of my insurance coverage. For every one of my visits, she also didn't bill my insurance because she said that my insurance didn't cover cleanings, x-rays and the basic dental care. And every time I told her that my insurance did cover basic dental care. And every time I would need to have my insurance call her to straighten things out. To this day, I'm not sure why I stuck with this dentistry office for about 5 to 6 years. I guess I didn't want to bother with the change and finding a new dentist. But now I'm glad I left and found a new dentist office that doesn't have these same issues. All that said, I highly recommend you search for a different dentist before coming to Pastrell, Buchanan and Hartzell General Dentistry.

I finally got tired of being treated like a non-entity. They cancel my appointment at the last minute and then tell me it will be 3 months before I can get in again. Then I get a last-minute call a month later telling me they have a cancellation. It was inconvenient for me, but I came in anyway. Got there 15 minutes early but got called in 15 minutes late with no apology. Prior dental treatment was expensive and (IMHO) unnecessary. I've decided to look for a place that doesn't look and feel like a law office/dental mill and treats me like a valued customer.

This review is due to my dealings with Lori in billing. When I had concerns about my elderly mother being charged for work she wasn't aware she had to pay for and could not afford, Lori was inflexible, condescending, and completely focused on her agenda of getting this office their money in any way, shape, or form. I understand patient responsibility to know their insurance and what it covers and doesn't, and that they should ask the questions before procedures are completed. However, this business has responsibility to make sure their patients (especially senior citizens) are aware of what they will be financially responsible for BEFORE procedures are done. I see other negative ratings about similar practices in this office. The front office staff was courteous and the office manager, after 2 phone calls and a long wait for a call back, did work with me on a payment plan. Be sure to know exactly what you are getting in for before consenting to have work done in this office, and protect your elderly loved ones better than I was able to in this instance.

Horrible prices and surprise bills for minor services. Less than twenty four hours after leaving this review the office began calling my phone repeatedly without leaving a voicemail. I wasn't the patient, a family member that I live with was so looking up my patient file (I haven't been a patient in almost a year) to call me to take down a review isn't going to work.

Avoid this provider. Billing practices have changed and they go beyond your Insurance limit and you have to pay out of pocket. Each and every time we visit we request they do not go over our Insurance limit. The last two visits were entirely not covered and we had to pay out of pocket. Sad because we like the work they did in the past but we cannot afford to pay more than 1% of our annual income due to their billing practices, especially when we specifically requested they not exceed our limit.
