Dr. Cohen is our Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. Born in France, Dr. Cohen grew up in Paris and Los Angeles. He attended Brandeis University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts. He then obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at New York University College of Dentistry, and completed a Post-Graduate Internship and Research Fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, in New Orleans, LA.
He subsequently finished his oral & maxillofacial surgery training at Allegheny General Hospital, in Pittsburgh, PA, where he was Chief Resident for one year. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a Diplomate of the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Cohen travels often to Africa, Central America, and other parts of the world to provide free surgical treatment to children born with facial deformities. He was involved in the 9/11 rescue efforts at Ground Zero in 2001 and worked in the Israeli Defense Force Field Medical Hospital in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.
He is the founder of Park Avenue Oral & Facial Surgery, P.C., Manhattans premier oral and maxillofacial surgery practice that made its grand opening in 2010. In 2016, Dr. Cohen founded Park Smiles NYC Pediatrics, a practice located in the Upper East Side that is dedicated to the care of pediatric patients, and patients with special needs. Our Park Avenue office is newly renovated with state of the art equipment and facilities, and an ambulatory surgery facility that is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF).
Dr. Hye Yoon Choi, who goes by Dr. Helen to all her patients, was born and raised in South Korea. After attending boarding school in England, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an orthodontist.
Dr. Helen states, Ever since I had my braces as a teenager, orthodontics has always been my passion and love. So, after receiving a wonderful education and experience in England, I decided to explore a larger world where I could further my education and pursue my career as an orthodontist. This led me to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where I earned my B.S. in Biology. I also minored in Art History, which always fascinated me.
Dr. Helens next stop was at the University of California, San Francisco, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. From there, she completed her orthodontic residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, together with a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology.
Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Helen spent years in voluntary training, including completion of peer-developed, externally validated written and clinical examinations. Board Certification is a high level of achievement that demonstrates Dr. Helens personal commitment to providing lifelong quality patient care. She is also a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, and American Association of Orthodontics.
Most recently, Dr. Helen moved to New York to join the practice at Park Smiles NYC. She states, Becoming an orthodontist in Manhattan is a dream come true for me. Im thankful and thrilled every day to do what I love, which is helping people smile because of successful orthodontic treatment. Most importantly to me, I enjoy the relationships that build with my patients during the course of treatment!
Dr. Helen takes special pride in her volunteer work. During dental school, she traveled to Honduras on a dental mission trip and did an externship in underserved areas providing dental care. She also traveled to Uganda with her church group on another mission and continues today to participate in local volunteer work in the New York area.

First time I took my son in, they cancelled the appointment the night before. They gave me another appointment 6 weeks later. Third time I tried to bring my son in, they cancelled the previous evening, offered me an appointment 8 wakes later. Why give appointments if you cannot keep them? If you cancel they charge you $100. They just cancel whenever they want.

Strongly do not recommend. Found dentists here to be extremely inconsistent. I have had to have almost all the work done here fixed by other dentists.

I had an incredible experience with Dr. Kaplan. The office is beautiful and the waiting room is filled with arcade games (which were an instant hit!). From the moment Dr. Kaplan came out to greet us I was beyond impressed. First, there was no wait time and a seamless check in process. Dr. Kaplan immediately made us feel comfortable. She made going to the dentist fun and we left actually wanting to clean and floss our teeth more!! There was actually talk after of when we were going back! Thanks Dr. Kaplan- highly recommend for anyone looking for a pediatric dentist!!!

I brought my 20 month old to Park Smiles and couldn't believe how easy the process was. They know what they are doing - he doesn't like to sit down for more than 2 minutes unless he's eating something but they were able to keep him entertained in the chair for 30 minutes while they cleaned his teeth. They're the best!
