Our endodontists, Dr. Bruce Overton andDr. Gardiner Packer, have both been in Virginia Living Magazines Top dentists in Virginia issue. We have the latest technology available in diagnosis, non-surgical, and surgical endodontic treatment. This includes 3D imaging technology. This imaging technology gives a three dimensional image of your tooth that allows for a more complete diagnosis, which in turn gives a better understanding of prognosis and treatment options leading to better outcomes and higher success.

Dr. Bruce Overton was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1984 with a degree in Chemistry, then he received his degree in pharmacy from the MCV/VCU School of Pharmacy in 1987. His expanding interest in health care lead him to pursue a career in dentistry, and he graduated from the MCV/VCU School of Dentistry in 1991.

After one year general practice residency at The Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center, Dr. Overton was accepted as an endodontic resident at the VCU Department of Endodontics. he earned his Certificate in Endodontics and has been in private practice since 1995.

Dr. Overton is a Board Certified Endodontist and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Board Certification is the highest level of achievement in Endodontics. ABE Diplomate status is awarded to qualified endodontists who have demonstrated diagnostic skill, clinical proficiency, and professional judgement of a level that ensures the highest quality of care to patients. His philosophy of practice is to treat each patient with care and compassion, and to uphold the standards of his specialty.

Too busy for his own good, Dr. Overton serves on numerous committees for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and private missions as well. He is Chairman of the Caring Dentist Committee for the Virginia Dental Association. He is a former clinical instructor for the Department of Endodontics at the VCU School of Dentistry. On occasion, he volunteers in a veterinary capacity, helping our four-legged friends when needed, by performing root canals on law enforcement canines, and at the Richmond Metro Zoo where he has treated a lion, as well as two Asian bears, a snow leopard, and a chimpanzee.

When not performing root canals, Dr. Overton, a Commercial rated pilot, can be found flying his Beechcraft Baron along the East Coast of the United States with his wife Susan. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and also enjoys cooking, antique collecting, cycling and traveling to historic destinations in our great country.

Dr. Gardiner Packer grew up out west in Salt Lake City, Utah and attended the University of Utah where he received a Bachelors degree in Medical Biology. After college he moved to the Midwest to attend Creighton University School of Dentistry where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery graduating at the top of his class.

Following dental school, he practiced general dentistry with his father for a year and then completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Utah Medical Center. He then moved to Richmond, received his certificate in endodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, and joined Dominion Endodontics in 2008 and has been in private practice since.

Dr. Packer is Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, and a Board Certified Endodontist. This is the highest level of achievement in Endodontics. Diplomate status is awarded following completion of a written exam, presentation of cases, and an oral exam, demonstrating to the board the highest level of academic understanding of the profession, skill, clinical ability, and professional judgement resulting in the highest level of care for all patients. He strives to practice and treat each patient with the care and personal touch they deserve.

He is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, and the Virginia Dental Association. He also spent 10 years at the Childrens Hospital of Richmond at VCU clinic and O.R. providing treatment for youth and children with special needs and enjoys continuing his education in various ways.

When Dr. Packer isnt with his patients he enjoys time with his lovely wife, Alison, and their six children. He loves going to sporting and other events with his family. He is an avid reader, plays golf, basketball, and he is a pinball enthusiast.
