Dr. Paul Bonar graduated with honors from OHSU and began his own private solo practice in 1987. Dr. Vickie Bonar comes from a family of dentists and began her medical journey as an RN, but eventually found her way to her way back to dentistry.
In 2019, with a desire to refresh their practice, Bonar Family Dentistry rebranded to become Pacific Crest Dental Group. It was their thorough enjoyment of all things outdoorsy and adventurous that lit a fire for their new name and brand which now better reflects their shared life values of living a healthy life and savoring our beautiful state.
It isn't only the doctors who hold a passion for adventuring in the outdoors or spending quality time with family and pets though. Each team member also shares those values, which makes the Pacific Crest Dental team what it is - a family-focused dental group who is proud to care for each and every one of their Salem, Oregon and surrounding area neighbors.
Dr. Paul Bonar, owner of Pacific Crest Dental, cherishes the opportunities hes had to form patient relationships in his 30+ years of being in General Dentistry. A native of Portland, Oregon, Paul graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1987 with honors and immediately started a private solo dental practice in Salem. While treatment techniques have evolved, Paul has been motivated to continue his education staying current with the newest technologies.
Growing up in a dental family in Woodburn, Oregon, Dr. Vickie began her medical career as a nurse, but shortly thereafter found her way to her true passion of dentistry. Immediately recognizing the importance of such work in ones wellbeing, Vickie has dedicated her life to helping people achieve optimal dental health, and has gone on numerous volunteer and mission trips to support others in this way.
James earned his bachelors of science degree from Oregon State University, and upon graduating worked as a chemist but soon learned that his passion for science would be best applied in a patient care setting.

This was the first time I had a crown that was pain free; and in one visit. Dr. James was excellent. He even took the time to show me the crown being made. I was very impressed and highly recommend him.

An Absolutely 5 Star experience with Dr. James. Being a travel nurse with an imminent travel contract, Dr. James went above and beyond to squeeze me into his schedule so that when I left for my new job I had my crown and filling. Dr. James is a great dentist, with a great balance of professionalism and a friendly attitude. I Would recommend anyone come here for their dental care. Thanks again, Dr. James.

Great experience! I met with Dr James Bonar for a crown, and to my pleasant surprise, the procedure was complete in just one quick visit. He took the time to explain the process and share their technology with me. I'm truly amazed... He imaged the area, then was able to review and make precise adjustments within their software, then the crown was milled right there in their office. I'm thrilled with the results!

If dental work is what you need, I would strongly recommend Dr. James Bonar. Just had a 4 hour surgery done, involving 2 cavities and 2 crowns. He was very thorough and professional in his work and had a very friendly personality. He would explain in detail the procedure he was about to undergo. He has great love for his work and respect for his patients. I would definitely recommend.

As always a pleasant experience. Today I saw Dr. James Bonar. He is a newer dentist full of knowledge and enthusiasm for your oral health. He is as patient as his parents in taking your knowledge of your health into consideration when taking care of you. Mind you this office is out of network for me and I continue to come here because they listen and discuss what you need done and make it happen. Dr. Paul and all of his team are always top notch. They provide consistent, thorough and thoughtful service across the board. I am currently getting oriented to Invisalign braces, and have had crowns, root canals, filling replacements, and routine cleanings. All services have been top notch by all hygienists, plus procedures by Dr. Vickie and Dr. Steve Cowgill as well as Dr. Paul. I would not hesitate to be seen by any of them for whatever dental needs may be presented.

I have been seeing Dr. Cowgill for over 20 years, since I was 57 years old and I swear that he has saved my teeth. Great crowns, great fillings and the best mouthpiece one could get. I still use the mouthpiece to keep me from grinding my teeth and now I have a hard time sleeping if I don't use it. Nora is a wonderful dental hygienist. Thanks Steve
