Dr. Sohyun Park is a board-certified periodontist and a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the State University of New York at Buffalo and then spent an additional year in Advanced Education in General Dentistry program from Lutheran Medical Center in Albany, NY. She then practiced as a general dentist for 3 years where she elaborated comprehensive dental skills. While she was working as a general dentist, she became fascinated with periodontics, so she decided to become a periodontist and then completed a three-year residency program in Periodontology and Dental Implants at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. She also received her Master of Dental Science during the periodontics residency with a research project on bone graft for implant placements. She currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Periodontics Department at the University of the Pacific.
Dr. Park is very excited to provide the service in the San Francisco Bay area with caring, comprehensive, evidence-based dental care. Her scope of dental care includes treating all areas in the field of periodontics, including surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy around natural teeth, laser therapy, gum grafts, crown elongations, periodontally assisted orthodontics, implant therapy, bone, and gum graft to prepare implant therapy and treatment of disease around existing dental implants.
For advanced laser treatment, she is certified with LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure), and for the perio-ortho treatment, she is certified with Wilckodontics. Dr. Park strongly believes that dentistry is a lifetime learning process. She attends many continuing education courses throughout the year, adapting newer technologies and honing her skills continuously.
Dr. Mark Wiesen graduated magna cum laude with his doctor of dental surgery from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He then participated in a general dentistry residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of St. Louis before returning to the State University of New York at Stony Brook to receive his advanced specialty training in periodontics. Dr. Wiesen has been active with local, state, and national dental societies, serving on many professional boards and in multiple distinguished positions.
Dr. Wiesen currently teaches periodontics and provides periodontal care at both the Veterans Administration Health Care Centers in Palo Alto and Santa Rosa/San Francisco. Dr. Wiesen is a clinical assistant professor at Western University of Health Sciences School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Wiesen has been in private practice for over two decades. His focus of practice is on minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of periodontitis and gingival recession. He enjoys listening to a patients concerns or goals and then helping them achieve the health, function, and esthetics desired by every individual.
Dr. Wiesen has lectured both nationally and internationally on topics that range from periodontal regeneration to laser treatment modalities. Dr. Wiesen and his family live in San Francisco where they enjoy all this amazing city has to offer.

I have rarely had a healthcare provider of any kind (dental, medical, etc.) explain things so thoroughly and kindly to me. Periodontal procedures can produce so much anxiety (at least in me), and Dr. Weisen was meticulously thorough, as well as gentle. Similarly his staff thoroughly explained how costs/insurance work, and answered all my questions patiently.

Dr. Park is great. She took care of a gum graft I needed after a surgery. The procedure went very well and the healing was fast and nice. I never had any pain. The result is very good. Dr. Park takes the time to explain exactly what she does. The post op recommendations are clear and well explained. Olena I also very nice. I highly recommend Pacific Coast Periodontics.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Park and Dr. Wiesen's care, expetise, and management of some chronic gum issues I was experiencing. Their entire team is to be commended for their professionalism and safe delivery of care before, during, and beyond the pandemic. In addition, they have the best hygienist in the world on their team.
