Dr. Hernandez studied dentistry at Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, NE., where he graduated in 1991. Immediately after graduation, he headed back to his favorite city, his hometown of San Diego, where he began providing care in the Clairemont and Pacific Beach areas 22 years ago. From the beginning, Dr. Hernandez was determined to provide the utmost in oral health care to his patients, making use of innovative technology and state-of-the-art equipment. Still today, he maintains a strong belief in preventative approach to oral care.
At our Pacific Beach dental office, Dr. Hernandez visits with patients of all ages. Long ago, he developed a special interest in encouraging children to take care of their teeth after consulting with two young patients who had never been to the dentist. Struck by their situation, Dr. Hernandez felt the strong desire to write a childrens book that would show children the benefits of dental care, and paint dentistry for what it could be a pleasant experience. To go along with this childrens book, Dr. Hernandez also created a music CD for his young patients, on which he sings about dental related topics, further teaching children the positive side of dental care.
Concerned with the appearance of his patients' smiles as well as their oral health, Dr. Hernandez also offers a number of cosmetic treatments at our Pacific Beach Smile Studio. He believes that cosmetic dentistry is highly rewarding to both the patient and to the dentist, as there is nothing like seeing a patient's confidence transformed along with his or her smile, first not wanting to smile, and then not being able to stop.

When I was a kid, I had crooked teeth and was picked on by my brothers and friends. I was afraid to smile or even talk. Once my mom could afford to buy me braces my whole life changed. I immediately became more outgoing and genuine! My fear of man was completely gone. I knew right away I wanted to help people with their smiles. I have a deep passion for changing peoples lives through their smiles.
I now live in beautiful Pacific Beach with my dog Remy. We are truly blessed. I also enjoy homeless outreach, bible studies, worship. I am an event organizer at the church and love to gather people together to socialize.

I am so grateful to Dr. Rick Hernandez for sqeezing me into his schedule to help me! I had gone to another dentist and on multiple occasions I expressed my concern regarding a specific sensitive tooth but this doctor said there was no need to be concerned then my filling fell out while I was in public! I did not want to return to that dentist so I called Dr. Hernandez, they got me in and saved my tooth! I am relieved and so thankful beyond words! My tooth looks great, feels strong and now I have a wonderful dentist worthy of my trust and confidence!

Great experience!! Went in for a replacement fake tooth I have and they were able to get me an upgraded material at no additional charge when I returned to pick it up. Love how it looks and looking forward to my next visit.

I recently moved to SD and with my luck as I'm chewing on candy (I know, I know. Bad) without noticing I swallowed my filling with the candy ( ew, I know). I started to look up a dentist immediately and this office was the first to pop up and I'm so happy it did! The young lady her name is Betty helped me out immediately and got me in to see Dr. Hernandez as soon as we hung up the phone. They are all so nice, and very attentive. Dr. Hernandez likes to show you what he sees, so he shows you visually what's going on with your teeth and explains what steps you should take next. I'm so happy I found a dentist near home and with a Doctor who cares about his patients. He has a good team with him as well who are helpful, polite, and very nice. I can't believe I'm saying this but I can't wait for my next dentist appointment
