Oxford Family Dentistry: Stefan Speck DMD - General dentist in Oxford, PA

At Oxford Family Dentistry, our philosophy is to collaborate with our patients for a lifetime of dental care. We educate and communicate with you on all possible options in order to arrive at the treatment path that will best suit your needs. Regardless of the current condition of your smile, you can begin your dental journey today on the path to better oral health and wellness.

  • Digital X-rays: Digital radiography, or digital x-rays, are a more safe way of taking images of the mouth. This convenient treatment also offers high-quality images of the teeth and gums. We utilize x-rays to plan treatment for patients with missing, crooked, injured, or infected teeth.
  • Intraoral Cameras: These small yet high-definition cameras take pictures of areas of the mouth that are typically difficult to reach. Intraoral cameras also help educate patients about their oral health so they can see where they require treatment. Using handheld intraoral cameras, Dr. Speck can show patients images of their smiles in real-time.
  • Dental Implants: Dental implants are versatile dental restorations that replace missing teeth. Implants consist of a titanium post that is surgically inserted into the jawbone. After the post fuses to the jawbone, it is capped off with an abutment and dental crown. Patients with multiple missing teeth can also secure their dental bridge or dentures with implants.
  • Nightguards and Sports Mouthguards: Mouthguards are oral appliances that can be made of different materials for a variety of dental problems. Customized sports mouthguards are worn during contact sports to protect against dental injuries and tooth loss. Nightguards prevent bruxism or teeth clenching and grinding. Patients with bite disorders and bruxism benefit from wearing a custom-made nightguard.
  • Teeth Whitening: Dr. Speck offers both in-office and take-home teeth whitening treatments to his patients. For in-office teeth whitening treatment, Dr. Speck applies whitening gel to the tooth enamel. To decrease sensitivity, he places gum barriers that ensure the whitening gel is isolated to the teeth. Patients who want to whiten their teeth at home only need dental impressions for their customized whitening kits. Dental impressions are used to create precise whitening trays needed for this treatment.
  • Invisalign: Invisalign is a modern way for patients to realign their smiles. This orthodontic treatment uses a series of clear aligners to straighten teeth over time. We recommend Invisalign for patients with overbites, underbites, crossbites, gaps between teeth, and crooked teeth.

Do you have crooked or misaligned teeth? Are you looking for a more comfortable way to straighten your smile? Try cosmetic dental treatment with Invisalign at Oxford Family Dentistry in Oxford, PA. Dr. Stefan Speck and his professional dental team work with their patients to determine if they are the best candidates for Invisalign treatment. Invisalign clear aligners may be used for patients with an overbite, underbite, crossbite, gaps between teeth, and crooked teeth. This orthodontic treatment is recommended for teens and adults.

Although traditional metal braces are a good option for patients with more severe orthodontic problems, they often do not come with the same benefits as Invisalign. Invisalign aligners are removable, so patients can eat, drink, brush, and floss easily. Braces come with dietary restrictions. It can also be difficult to clean teeth underneath braces brackets and wires. Invisalign aligners are clear, so they offer a more discreet treatment option that can blend in with the natural smile.

To begin treatment, Dr. Speck takes x-rays to see where your teeth come together. He will recommend orthodontic treatment depending on the severity of your bite. Patients who have mild to moderate orthodontic issues are the best candidates for Invisalign. Dr. Speck will then take digital scans of the teeth, which are sent to a dental lab. Lab technicians use these scans to fabricate your Invisalign aligners.

Each set of Invisalign aligners is slightly different and shifts the teeth into a straighter position over time. Once the aligners are completed and sent to Dr. Speck, he will make sure that the first set fits properly. Dr. Speck will also give you instructions on how to use and care for your aligners.

Every patient has different orthodontic needs, which impacts their treatment time. Typically, Invisalign treatment can take patients 12 to 18 months. For the best results, Invisalign aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day. They may be removed for eating as well as brushing and flossing.

No, you may feel some soreness as you adjust to each new aligner set, but this will fade over time. Invisalign aligners are more comfortable than metal braces because they do not irritate the gums. You will only feel that initial soreness with new aligner sets.

Taking care of your aligners can help you get a straighter and more uniform smile in a shorter amount of time. When you remove your Invisalign aligners to eat or clean your teeth, make sure you are also cleaning your aligners. Do not eat or drink anything other than water as this can stain the aligners. Finally, you should keep your aligners in their case when they are not in use.

I only recently started with this practice but I have had a good bit of interaction. I was blown away by all of the staff. The office staff has accommodated several issues for my family. Dr Speck did a cavity on me and I barely felt anything, aside from the required numbness.I feel I should also mention that I am a dental sissy.

I went back a week after having a tooth removed to simply have the area checked to make sure everything was ok, because my discomfort level was not improving. While there I felt belittled, and that I had wasted the dentist's time. I actually even apologized. I really hope nothing gets worse, because I feel like I would have to go somewhere else to address it at this point. Not a good feeling.
