Growing up in West Tennessee, Dr. Mark graduated from White Station High School in Memphis, TN before moving to Murfreesboro, TN to earn his pre-dental degree fromMiddle Tennessee State University. While in Murfreesboro, he met and married his wife of 11 years, Kristy. Following graduation from MTSUthey moved to Memphis so Dr. Mark could attend theUniversity of Tennessee, College of Dentistry,to complete his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2005. After their first son was bornthey moved back to middle Tennessee where Dr. Mark worked as a general dentist in Shelbyville. After three years of private practice, Dr. Mark decided to return to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis to specialize in orthodontics and earn a Master of Dental Science degree following a three-year orthodontic residency.
The Owens family now has three boys, Mark, Luke, and Rhett. They are excited to be living in east Tennessee and having the Great Smoky Mountains as their backyard. Dr. Marks interests include spending time with his family, coaching and supporting youth athletics, and most outdoor activities, including hobby farming and trout fishing in the Smoky Mountains.
He also is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Tennessee Association of Orthodontists, Second District Dental Society, and the Blount County Dental Society.
Dr. Newsom Baker attendedBethel College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree, Magna cum Laude. He continued on to earn his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from theUniversity of Tennessee College of Dentistry, and his Master of Science in Orthodontics from the University of Tennessee Graduate Orthodontics Department.
In the past, Dr. Baker has served as the President of the University of Tennessee Orthodontic Alumni Association,Tennessee Association of Orthodontists,Second District Dental Society, and the Blount County Dental Society. He is a current member of theAmerican Dental Association,American Association of Orthodontists, andTennessee Dental Association, and a Fellow of theAmerican College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.

Owens Orthodonticsbegan in July 1968, when Knoxville orthodontist Dr. Richard M. Bowles opened Bowles Orthodontics. In 1970, he expanded his practice and became the first orthodontist to establish a permanent practice in the nearby town of Maryville, TN.
Dr. Bowles son, Dr. Ryan G. Bowles, joined his father in practice in 2005 before taking over Bowles Orthodontic Specialists in 2009. They both continued to practice together until Dr. Ryan decided to leave orthodontics and pursue humanitarian work overseas. In 2011, Dr. Mark J. Owens acquired the orthodontic practice from Dr. Ryan Bowles, allowing Ryan and his family to relocate to the Middle East to pursue work in humanitarianism.
Today, Dr. MarkOwens and Dr. Newsom Baker work together in the practice. They abide by the philosophy that every patient is unique and every smile requires a personalized approach and custom treatment plan. Drs. Owens and Baker have completed advanced specialty training that allows them to strictly limit their practice to orthodontics. Patients can rest assured that this team has the experience and the focus to provide the best orthodontic care possible.

It's a seamless process. I did like having a separate appointment to go over financials and then having time to decide after that. The staff is also very friendly

The staff is so friendly and absolutely know what they're doing. I have a 22 yr old daughter who got braces from Dr Owens when she was 16. Now my other daughter (also 16) needs them and we're seeing Dr Owens again!

Great place, dr. Mark Owens is very kind and professional. The staff is great and accommodating. This week my second child graduated from braces, they are happy and their smile is great. Just my teen is still in braces with them. I would recommend them to any mom looking for great orthodontist.

Great place, dr. Mark Owens is very kind and professional. The staff is great and accommodating. This week my second child graduated from braces, they are happy and their smile is great. Just my teen is still in braces with them. I would recommend them to any mom looking for great orthodontist.

my friend went here and THE NURSE MADE HER BLEED...... she was being CARELESS...... she decided to talk to her friends instead of doing HER JOB..... she screamed at her mom because she came back to see her DAUGHTER..... not to mention she was incredibly rude and made fun of her breath

We've been seeing Dr. Baker for 6 years and have nothing but positive experiences at each visit. Orthodontic treatment is never fun, especially when someone has to start at age 6. All of the staff at Owens-Baker are friendly and very helpful, willing to take whatever time is needed to explain treatment plans, options, go over contracts, etc. When we've needed after-hours care, there has always been someone to walk us through what we can do to alleviate any discomfort until we can see the doctor. We are very satisfied with the care we've received and the results of the treatment plans we've had done so far!
