Otter Dental - General dentist in Fairbanks, AK

I truly love what I do. Im more excited about dentistry today than I was when I started practicing. We have so many advanced technologies, materials, and methodologies to meet our patients needs. Offering reliable, longer-lasting, naturally beautiful care options, in a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, makes me proud to be a dentist.

Dr. Ott, my team, and I view each patient as the individual they are. We know each has very different needs and desires. It is our mission to help each patient discover the right treatment path for them, with the goal of exceptional dental health and smiles that dont stop. Knowing the connection between a healthy mouth and body, we focus on education: by teaching patients how to care for their mouth, we not only improve their oral health, but the health of their body. And by teaching patients how to care for their bodies, we improve the health of their smiles!

Having an up-to-date, caring dental office is about more than the dentists. I am proud of our team and am honored to work with very dedicated and highly educated people who are passionate about helping others. The combined years of experience and continuing education, in all areas of our practice, is a testimony to our commitment to excellence. There are eight of us who account for 215 years of combined dental experience! I do not think of the practice as mine; I think of it as ours. Were acohesive family, working together to serve others.

I attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport for my dental prerequisites. My Doctorate of Dental Surgery was awarded by the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Immediately after graduation, I joined the U.S. Army and was selected to do a Rotating Dental Internship at the Madigan Army Medical Center.

I was then stationed at Ft. Wainwright, AK, where I served three and a half years, ending my military service as a Major. I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and was the Commanding Officer of the dental clinic when I left.

I am honored to have earned the respected Pankey Scholar designation at the highly-acclaimed Pankey Institute and was invited to be part of their visiting faculty. Ive also joined the visiting faculty of Spear Education and their post-graduate dental institute. It is through the institute that Ive worked to help establish a dental clinic in Guatemala. This marks the fifth year that I and my dental assistant, Megan, have worked at the clinic.

Each year I complete many hours of continuing education. Remaining current is essential to keeping abreast of the changes in dentistry. Gaining knowledge leads to better treatment and outcomes for my patients.

I grew up in Shreveport, LA and have called Fairbanks my home since 1974. Ive been married for 43 years, to the same beautiful distraction I had back in dental school in 1973. Weve one son, Brandon, whos a Professional Fly Fishing Guide with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Our daughter, Lauren, is a personal trainer with a degree in Health & Exercise Science.

I love my family, I love Fairbanks, I love the outdoors, and Im passionate about dentistry. I want to provide you with the best dentistry possible without compromise, in a supportive and fun-loving environment.

I value my patients as people. I want to understand each persons needs and desires, I want them to talk with me about their goals and concerns so I can provide a customized care approach that works best for them. I deliver dental care with three fundamental concepts in mind: I want it to function well, feel great, and look beautiful. To achieve that, I must know about your lifestyle, your timeline, and how you need to be cared for.

Im a Fairbanks native. I had other healthcare opportunities, but decided on dentistry. One of the reasons I chose dentistry is so I could return to Fairbanks and work in a family oriented practice. I want the opportunity to build relationships with some of the finest people in Fairbanks. Its my hope those relationships grown into friendships.

In 1997 I graduated from West Valley High School here in Fairbanks. I then enrolled at Oregon State University for a new perspective and to join their wrestling team; it was there I received my undergraduate education. In 2010 I graduated from Oregon Health & Sciences University with my Doctorate of Dental Medicine.

Im also part of a local Spear Study Club made up of ten local dentists and dental specialists. We come together once per month for interdisciplinary collaboration as health care providers raising the standard of care in our community.

I have a wonderful wife, Nicole, and two young boys Easton and Atigun. Of course I cant leave out my four-legged hunting partner Bella. My Parents, Janice and Alvin Ott, still live in the house I was raised in, here in Fairbanks. My seven siblings are all married with children of their own. Theres a good chance if you meet someone in Fairbanks with the last name Ott, they are related to me!

I love the outdoors. Most of my summer trips revolve around rafting, fishing, and occasionally hunting. In the winter youll find me tinkering in the garage on some project, projects that have no finish date attached, projects that my wife Nicole complains always take too long!

  • Randi Martin Dental Assistant Dentistry has a very special place in my heart. I have been a dental assistant for over six years and started with the Otter dental team in May 2018. I enjoy the relationships I build with each and every patient and the growing technology within the dental industry. I assist our doctors with restorative procedures, radiographs and lab work. I ensure our patients feel comfortable in the chair and leave happy. My favorite part of dentistry is seeing what cosmetic dentistry can do for our patients. I thoroughly love what I do! I am a born and raised Alaskan girl. I grew up on snowmachines, dirt bikes, four wheelers, and the great outdoors! My fiance Mike and I enjoy kayaking, camping and fishing with our four girls. We love this community and are glad to call this place our home.
