Dr. Knox purchased the building, equipment and patient records from Dr. Thomas Barrett owner of Barretts Family Dentistry. Dr. Barrett built the building and moved his practice from Bainbridge in 1985. He closed his practice at the end of 2009.
Dr. Knox initiated an extensive plan to upgrade equipment and remodel the clinic and office. Her first purchases were digital radiograph (x-ray) sensors, a digital panoramic radiograph, several computers and an intraoral camera. More recent upgrades include new intraoral cameras, dental distractors (distracts the patient during injections), an automated local anesthesia delivery system, an intraoral scanner, and a Velscopelight for aiding in the early detection of oral cancer. She continually evaluates new dental technology and will continue to upgrade when appropriate.
She started with two employees besides herself and the Otego office has grown to 7 full-time employees. She built an apartment under the practice and moved into it with her husband in March of 2012. They are both very happy to be living in the Village of Otego.
On November 26th, 2018, Otego Family Dental PC purchased the practice of Donald F. Lynd, DDS in Oneonta, NY. We are now in the process of updating that practice. Dr. Knoxs (Dr. Kathys) son, Alexander J. Knox, DDS (Dr. Alex) is the full time dentist at our Oneonta location. The Oneonta office has 4 full-time employees.
I am Dr. Kathy Knoxs husband. We met in high school in 1974 and were married in 1981. I graduated from RPI, in Troy, NY where I studied chemistry and materials engineering. I had my own business, before working at Otego Family Dental, providing information technology support to small businesses in the capital region.
I graduated from Oneonta High School in 2008 and then served 5 years in the US Marine Corps Infantry. I learned many valuable skills, traits, and lessons during my service as a Marine and they have translated well into my civilian career.
I graduated from Oneonta High School in 2007 and then attended SUNY Herkimer College for three years where I earned an Associates Degree in Travel and Tourism (Hospitality and Management) as well as a Small Business Management Certificate.
I started at Otego Family Dental in August 2011. I work each day with both a team and patients that make my work enjoyable. I am lucky to work with my mother, Karen, and my husband, Matt. Outside of work I enjoy going to the movies, shopping, and traveling.
I am a certified dental assistant with over 10 years experience, and have been with Otego Family Dental in June 2011. I enjoy coming to work every day, finding joy with my part in creating great patient experiences.
I was a stay at home mom and raised three children in Long Island. I have three grandsons who I spend as much time as with as I can. I currently have one dog and three cats, which all are rescues. I come from a background of banking and management with over 20 years of experience.
I graduated from Jefferson Central School in 2013 and then attended Fortis Institute and graduated in 2015 with a DANB and CDA License. I started my career as a CDA after graduation and started working at Otego Family Dental in November 2018.
I began my career in dentistry as a dental hygienist in 1981 when I graduated from Southern Illinois University with an A.S. Degree in Dental Hygiene. I worked in both general and periodontal practices for many years.
I graduated from Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine in May 2003 and was a resident for one year at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. I continue my education every year, beyond state requirements.
I worked as an associate dentist at a dental practice in Cobleskill, NY for five years and then at a practice in Naples, NY for one year. I started Otego Family Dental P.C. in April 2010. Ive been building the practice and my team ever since.
I purchased a second dental practice in November 2018. The Oneonta office is manned by my son, Alexander J. Knox, DDS. It is my goal for the Oneonta office to operate with the same philosophy as the Otego office.

Recently I was looking for a new dentist and decided to try out Otego Family Dental PC. I showed up with a history of fears and anxieties. Everyone in the practice treated me with professional kindness that greatly helped to gain my trust. I've had a complete exam with xrays, a cleaning, and today I had some dental work done, all of which were painfree and performed with the most modern, up to date methods I have experienced. My usual negative attitude about dental care is quickly changing for the better. I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff, the hygenists, and Dr. Knox are outstanding. I am grateful that I chose this practice and it has my full endorsement!

I can't say enough nice things about this office. Everyone I have encountered there is super nice and helpful. I have always been afraid of the dentist but Dr. Knox and her staff really put you at ease. They have all kinds of tools to distract you from what they are doing and every experience I've had there has been painless. They treat my whole family. I can not recommend Otego Family dental enough.

I sincerely love everything about the staff and services at Otego Family Dental. The extremely kind and warm environment to the unlenthy visits made going to the dentist a pleasant experience as opposed to a dreaded one. The time spent in the waiting room prior to your appointment is literally minutes at most everytime. Dr. Knox and her staff are incredibly gentle, polite, respectful, informative and professional. I was so pleased with my experiences that I would not consider going anywhere else :).

This is the best dental service I have ever seen. I am a 67 year old male and have been to dentist a few times. Even been to a couple of pretty good ones, but I have got to say this is the absolute best I have ever been to. Everyone in the office is goes above and beyond the call to take great care in making the experience a pleasure. I don't know anything they could do to improve. They are the greatest! Bob
