Practicing for over 25 years in the Portland area, Dr. Kooning received his dental degree from OHSU with high honors. He trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the State University of New York. Dr. Kooning is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Western Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Oregon Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Kooning volunteered for many years with the National Foundation of Dentists for the Handicapped and served as a mentoring surgeon, training dentists in the skills necessary in the art of implant dentistry for the Nobel Biocare Corporation.
Dr. Bouneff is a second-generation oral surgeon and the former President of the Washington County Dental Society. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Eastern Oregon State College in La Grande, Oregon, and went on to earn his D.M.D at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry. He served his residency at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C. He became Chief Resident in his third year.
Dr. Bouneff is a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Dental Association, the Oregon Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, the Oregon Dental Association, the Washington County Dental Society, the Western Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

We took our son here for oral surgery, and i was so nervous. They were so sweet, and funny. I said something embarrassing, and the dr. Just laughed it off with me... My son was treated amazingly. And they gave him his tooth as a keepsake. Which he thought was cool!!! All around great dental experience!

I'm on Medicaid and this place made me feel like I was going to a private surgeon, it really is an amazing clinic! I was losing a tooth and Medicaid doesn't cover implants this early on so the staff knew I was in emotional distress over how I would look cosmetically speaking and were so sweet towards me! They even gave me a bouquet of flowers, which they definitely didn't have to do! They even have recovery rooms which I never see at dental surgeons offices. Highly recommend!

I don't know how anyone could give this oral surgeon and his staff anything less than a 5. Dr. Bouneff and his staff are superior. The lobby is spotless, comfortable, and decorated for the season. Their communication and timeliness is excellent for a doctor's office. Their billing information is clear. Everything about the operation is top notch.

I had my wisdom tooth extract at Hillsboro office. Everyone here were so friendly and comforting. I was able to have the surgery in very relaxing environment. There were plenty of information and explanation about the surgery and the risks from both the nurse and the doctor. It's my third day after the surgery and I only have slight pain and hardly any swelling. I already recommended this place to my friends :)

The doc was a few min late due to a late running surgery, but he made up for it in concise and clear communication. He even took note of the distance I drove for this quick appointment (2 hours for 5 min) and made sure I left with a gas card.

Before making a firm appointment I asked if the surgeon and assistant wear N95 covid masks. I am 79 years old and in high risk for covid. At my appointment it was clear they did not have official certified by cdc N95 masks. The masks they presented had no marking of any kind on them to prove the were N95 certified. I wore a 3M cdc certified mask. I immediately canceled my appointment.

Update: Surgery was wonderfully executed. Painless and done in under 10 min. Original Post: I came to this office seeking a second opinion on oral surgery and chose to go with this facility instead of Sunset Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. For reference, I'm 31 and have straight white teeth in good health with exception to 1 wisdom tooth moving in on a molar causing me pain. The first surgeon I went to, at Sunset, wanted to pull 5 teeth (3 wisdom teeth + 2 molars) and said that I had a high chance of nerve damage as well as a high chance of needing sinus repair. They also said I would need to undergo anesthesia and that it was super risky with my Asthma. Needless to say... a life threatening diagnosis deserves a second independent evaluation. The surgeon at Oralis recommended I only have 2 teeth (1 wisdom + 1 molar) removed, since those are the only ones causing me pain whereas the other 2 wisdom teeth are still fully encased in bone and have 3mm of space between themselves and the nearby molars. It was also noted that local anesthetic would be fine for this 10 min procedure. The choice here was obvious.

Had my initial appointment for some dental work. Office is very clean, staff, nurses and doctor were very helpful. All procedures to be done were explained and available appointments conveniently made. So far very satisfied with this Office! I will do a follow-up review after all my retirement is completed
