Dr. Smith went directly to dental school after three years at LSU as an undergraduate, graduating in 1981. He completed his OMS residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, serving as Chief Resident his final year.
Since 1986, Dr. Smith has been involved with the Childrens Hospital Cleft and Craniofacial Team, treating children with facial abnormalities. He is also a member of the Delta Dental Study Club, which focuses on humanitarian efforts in the New Orleans area.
Dr. Smith is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). In addition to this prestigious certification, he is professionally affiliated with several local and national organizations, including the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American Dental Association (ADA), Louisiana Dental Association (LDA), New Orleans Dental Association (NODA), and Louisiana Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.
Originally from Lafayette, Dr. Ferguson is a Louisiana native who is proud to serve his community in the greater New Orleans area. He actively served in the U.S. Army and Louisiana Army National Guard for many years. He enlisted as a combat medic to aid his fellow soldiers and later became a Commissioned Officer. From treating soldiers to treating patients here at home, he strives to put patients at ease and make them feel as comfortable as possible, always placing the priorities and needs of the patient before anything else. He wants to get to know every one of his patients by providing respect, honesty, and good conversation.
Dr. Ferguson attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and graduated in 1995. Later he attended LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans, graduating in 2000 and obtained his DDS. Next, he received his MD from LSU School of Medicine in 2003 and completed his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 2006. He went on to become board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr Smith was thorough, explained every aspect of the procedure, and potential risk. During the procedure, he was empathetic about my level of discomfort, adjusting anesthesia (local rather than general which was my choice) without my needing to request this. My course post procedure went very well. I knew what to expect as far as possible infection, or dry socket. Luckily, I experienced none of these.

Dr Demarcus Smith is a great oral surgeon. I have had two extractions and implants done by him and I would highly recommend him. He is very thorough and gets done what needs to be done. I am very scared of needles and they gave me gas before they started the IV to help with relaxing me. His staff is so nice, friendly and comforting. I have referred people to him and I will continue to refer.

Great overall experience with Dr. Ferguson and staff, from consultation to wisdom teeth removal and followup. Dr. Ferguson is very knowledgeable and he and his staff are friendly and they make you feel welcome, would definitely recommend.

Very professional, extremely helpful they did great work. Dr. Ferguson removed all 3 of my wisdom teeth with out a hitch and all is well in the recovery. Would recommend for dental surgery.

Everyone was super friendly and understanding. I have a strong fear of needles, and knowing this, they let me relax with the gas first for my wisdom teeth procedure before hooking me up to the IV. After surgery, they were extremely helpful too by answering all the questions that I had. They even had an on call service where one of the dental surgeons returned my call after hours which was extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who may be a bit scared of any dental procedures as the staff and surgeons are super nice and very accommodating!

I highly recommend Dr. Smith! The staff is friendly and truly take the time to make you feel comfortable. Dr. Smith was very kind during my consultation and during my surgery. I was nervous about having the general anesthesia but after having all four teeth pulled and experiencing very little pain during recovery, I highly recommend general anesthesia and the Exparel!

My experience with Oral Surgery Services was an overall excellent experience. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Dr. Smith surgically removed two impacted wisdom teeth and I honestly didn't feel anything. My surgery went well and post surgery results are awesome!

If I could give them more than 5 stars I would . They are truly professional, I had an impacted tooth removed which was surprisingly a painless experience. They also followed up with me after my surgery to see how I was feeling which made me feel special. I love this place and would refer them to every human on earth !!!

I had a great experience with Dr. Ferguson and his team. I had to get 4 wisdom teeth removed and it was quick with no pain afterwards. I didn't even have to take the pain medication prescribed. Dr. Ferguson and his team are polite and professional. I highly recommend this office!
