Dr. Philip Engel was born in New Jersey, and his fatherwho was also an oral surgeonpiqued his interest in dentistry. Dr. Engel has over 30 years of experience helping patients in his private practice as well as in hospital settings. He is Chief of the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University and an Assistant Clinical Professor at Rutgers Medical School. He is also on staff at St. Peters University Hospital.
After earning his undergraduate degree in biology from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Engel attended dental school at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree as well as a masters in education. As an educator, Dr. Engel understands the importance of clear and open communication, especially when it comes to health care.
After finishing dental school, Dr. Engel did a general practice residency at the VA Hospital in Houston, Texas. He then completed his 3-year oral and maxillofacial residency at University Hospital in Newark. There, he gained experience performing extractions, reconstructive surgery, facial trauma management, and dental implant placement, before going into private practice at Oral Surgery Group. He still works closely with dental residents and staff at local hospitals teaching students and treating patients in need of more extensive care.
Dr. Engel has completed his board certification, which means that he is qualified to treat patients at the highest standard of care set by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). He is also certified by the National Board of Dental Anesthesiology (NDBA) and the New Jersey Dental Society of Anesthesia. He is up to date in all of his certifications and frequently participates in continuing education events to further his knowledge of advances in the field.
Dr. Constantine Simos has been practicing oral and maxillofacial surgery for over 15 years. He was born in Brooklyn and raised in Long Island, but he currently lives in East Brunswick near the Oral Surgery Group office there. He thoroughly enjoys living and working in the East Brunswick community.
Throughout his career, Dr. Simos has had a diverse background of oral surgery experienceteaching and working at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, working in private practice at Oral Surgery Group, and having hospital privileges at both Robert Wood Johnson University and St. Peters University Hospital. Oral surgery is his passion, and he enjoys getting to know his patients and helping them solve their oral health problems.
Dr. Simos knew he wanted to be a dentist from a young agehis godfather was also a dentistso he did his undergraduate studies in pre-dental science at Lehigh University. The pre-dental program was affiliated with the University of University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, and after his undergraduate studies, he went on to earn his Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) in 1996. While he was in dental school, he found the oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty and became interested in the diverse range of skills and procedures oral surgeons perform.
Dr. Simos completed a four-year residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Montefiore Medical Center, the University Hospital for Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Here, he gained experience treating a wide range of oral conditions. After completing his residency, he gained additional experience by working as a faculty member at Tufts Dental School before starting at Oral Surgery Group.
Following his education and training, Dr. Simos became board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). To receive board certification, he completed a comprehensive exam and rigorous peer evaluation process. In the spring of 2020, Dr. Simos became an Examiner for the Board, a distinguished position that allows him to be a part of the Board Certification process.
When he is not working, Dr. Simos likes to spend time with his three children, going to their sporting events and other activities. He also enjoys traveling, spending time outside, running, and walking. He and his family love going to see Devils games together during hockey season.
Dr. Michael Stern grew up in Brooklyn, and like his brother, he knew he wanted to go into a dental or medical profession at an early age. He was drawn to oral and maxillofacial surgery because of the skills and knowledge covered by the specialty. Through his training, he gained expertise in oral surgery, anesthesia, and general health, allowing him to treat a wide range of oral, facial, and systemic conditions.
Dr. Stern has been practicing for over 10 years, and he enjoys solving problems for his patients. The oral and maxillofacial specialty gives him the ability to treat more complex and challenging conditions, and Dr. Stern greatly enjoys providing patients with excellent quality care at Oral Surgery Group.
After finishing his undergraduate studies in biology at Binghamton University, Dr. Stern went to the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD). Dr. Stern completed his residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital. During his residency, he gained experience in extractions, bone grafting, implants, trauma, pathology, and reconstruction. After his residency, he started working at Oral Surgery Group in 2005.
Dr. Stern is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). This certification required him to complete an extensive exam testing his knowledge of the comprehensive oral and maxillofacial specialty. As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Stern is the highest qualified dental professional to treat the full range of oral and facial conditions.
Outside of work, Dr. Stern enjoys spending time outdoors. He likes fishing, camping, hiking, and playing sports, such as basketball and volleyball. He also loves spending time with his family and friends.
