All orthodontists must be licensed to specialize in orthodontics, but at this time only 1 in 3 orthodontists have continued on to complete certification to become a Board Certified Orthodontist. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) certification process signifies a unique achievementa significant step beyond the two to three years of advanced education required for a dentist to become a specialist in orthodontics. The process requires the orthodontist to demonstrate actual accomplishments in patient care with detailed case reports on the treatment provided for a broad range of patient problems. Board certification is a voluntary achievement that all orthodontists do not choose to pursue. In order to become board certified by the ABO, an individual orthodontist is thoroughly interviewed by a highly respected panel of examiners to demonstrate their orthodontic knowledge, clinical skills and judgment.

One. The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the only certifying board in the specialty that is recognized by the American Dental Association. The ABO was founded in 1929 and is the oldest specialty board in dentistry. The boards purpose is to elevate the quality of orthodontic care for the public by promoting excellence through certification, education and professional collaboration.

Successful completion of the examination process demonstrates the orthodontists highest commitment to excellence in orthodontics to both the orthodontic profession and the general public. It represents a commitment by a licensed specialist that he/she has the necessary knowledge base and skills to treat patients to the highest of standards. It exemplifies a practitioners commitment to continue to keep abreast of the latest advances in patient care, and to continue to deliver these latest advances to patients. Many orthodontists see it as a demonstration of their dedication to the specialty and the highest level of personal achievement.

Since the establishment of the ABO in 1929, the certification process requirements have continued to adjust to the demands of the specialty. Today, the process involves a thorough Written Examination (240 questions) covering all areas of information which an orthodontist should be knowledgeable. Successful completion of this board exam allows the orthodontist to proceed to the Clinical Examination where they present detailed case reports from their practice/residency, demonstrating a history of excellence in patient care. These cases are evaluated by a panel of examiners and later discussed during an oral examination where the applicant is tested on a wide variety of academic and clinical topics. After successful completion of these examinations, the orthodontist has officially achieved Board Certification, for a time-limited period. The orthodontist must go through Certification Renewal every 10 years to maintain their certification status by demonstrating this continued level of patient care.

  • Safety and comfort are of the utmost importance in our practice. Our sterilization procedures bring a whole new level of protection to our patients. We deliver the highest standard of sterilization in dentistry.
  • Its more important than ever to brush and floss regularly when you have braces, so the teeth and gums are healthy during orthodontic treatment. Patients who do not keep their teeth clean may require more frequent visits to the dentist for a professional cleaning. Adults who have a history of gum disease should also see a periodontist during orthodontic treatment. Watch the two videos below on the proper care of braces during orthodontic treatment.

What can you eat? Lets talk about what you shouldnt eat! For the first day or so, stick to soft foods. Avoid tough meats, hard breads, and raw vegetables. Before long, youll be able to bite a cucumber again. But youll need to protect your orthodontic appliances when you eat for as long as youre wearing braces.

When you get your braces on, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and teeth may be tender to biting pressures for 3 5 days. Take Tylenol or whatever you normally take for headache or discomfort. The lips, cheeks and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become accustomed to the braces. We will supply wax to put on the braces in irritated areas to lessen discomfort.

To successfully complete orthodontic treatment, the patient must work together with the orthodontist. The teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears the rubber bands or other appliances as prescribed. Lack of cooperation following instructions and damaged appliances lengthen the treatment time so please follow instructions.

I took my son for braces and the process was very straightforward. everyone is friendly and nurse Ana did such a great job putting the braces and wire on, explained everything thoroughly. also gave us paperwork instruction with pictures, we put the instruction in the refrigerator so we can follow all doctor orders.

Horrible ortho experience. I went in with my daughter for her check up and Dr.Panos was extremely rude and had an attitude with the questions I was asking him. He called my daughter a liar and every question I asked he would not answer and said it was her fault. I asked him if I could get a price and waited for 30 minutes before I just left because no one ever came in to tell me. I was planning on getting treatment for my second daughter but I will not be treated rude for a service that I am paying. I will be looking for a new ortho. I do not recommend unless you want different ortho dr. everytime you go in for a check up.

Scheduling is extremely hard. If you can't make it to the appointment that you scheduled 8 weeks ago, then you have to wait another 4 weeks to see the orthodontists. That's three months of not seeing the orthodontists for your progress. Unforeseen things do come up but there was no flexibility from the office. The lady who handles scheduling is rude as well. Had I not paid thousands of dollars already I would have terminated this treatment plan. Not to mention I have had three orthodontists already since my initial consultation. STAY AWAY! Go to Quentel Henson instead.

My daughter went in to get her very first set of Invisilign Trays and had a great experience. The office is clean, the staff - from check-in to chair- is very friendly and helpful. Angie, the dental assistant who attached the buttons and trays, did a wonderful job at keeping my daughter comfortable and informed as she completed the process. She explained how to care for the trays and her teeth and made suggestions about tools and apps to help my daughter manage her Invisilign journey. Thanks Angie! We're looking forward to my daughter's new smile. (:

My son got his braces here in 2019 and my daughter just got hers put on last month. We had been going to another dentist who had been pressing us to prepay. There was something desperate in his pleas and so we postponed getting them. Turns out he was going out of business and all the parents who had prepaid lost their entire investment. This place has been in business for years. They never pressured us into getting braces. They offered a small discount for paying in full so we took advantage, but they were completely flexible for those who prefer installments. My husband was there when my son's braces were put in, so I can't say much about his process, but my daughter's hygienist made sure to give detailed descriptions about what she was about to do and why before taking any action which is developmentally appropriate for a healthcare worker to do with teenagers. My only critique is it can be a challenge to get appointments for tightening the braces, other than that, I am completely happy with the service I receive here. The attached dental office is also top notch.

My daughter and I began services with Dr. Rena in Humble. I chose this practice over others for two very critical reasons: the office was open for orthodontic visits on Tuesdays, the only day of the week I have morning availability, and it took me 5 minutes to get there from home, and 10 minutes from work. As a clinician, my life is planned down to minutes during the work week and these two factors were paramount.. Dr. Rena was pregnant when contract for service was drawn, but I did not know because it was not obvious. She explained that was scheduled for maternity leave, and was expected to come back but that did not happen. As a parent, I understand this completely that there are situations that arise which are priority. However, the quality of service was substantially and very negatively effected by the lack of communication afforded to patients. No notification was given that the attending orthodontist had changed. No notification was given that the day for orthodontic service had changed. And no notification was given that I would now have to speak with an office assistant regarding my care instead of a qualified orthodontist or orthodontic/dental assistant as there was no one available to accommodate. Now I am forced to discuss treatment expectations with a secretary. At first, I had asked to be accommodated on Tuesdays, since that was the agreed treatment day upon drawing contract. As a healthcare professional, it is important that I do not miss work because other people depend on me for their healthcare needs. It is a credit to the orthodontist that assumed care that she tried to accommodate me, and did so several times. I really appreciated her effort to make it right. However, it was hard for her to remember a change in schedule for just two patients, and she missed appointments which put my treatment plan behind, and wasted my time. Lastly, the office manager Bernice was truly awful to have to speak with and even that is a genuinely forgiving statement. For these reasons, I was forced to switch locations. I now have to take far more time out of the office than I am comfortable with and drive a hefty distance for service, which costs me a considerable amount of money. This hikes up the overall cost of treatment. Had I have known the cost I would incur due to Dr. Dena's pregnancy, and the poor planning and communication on the part of the office, I would absolutely have chosen another provider.
