I enjoy changing peoples lives with a smile, and it is wonderful that I get to work alongside and learn from my father. I believe it is extremely important to build long-term, trusting relationships with my patients, and that starts by taking the time to listen to their needs and concerns. I enjoy the one-on-one interactions I have with my patients and I consider many of them friends.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Artsfrom Colgate University and continued atTufts University of Dental Medicine, where I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery andgraduatedwith honors. I attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine to obtainmy masters degree and certificate in orthodontics.

I received the Maury Massler Award for demonstrating outstanding ability academically, clinically, and professionally in all phases of clinical dentistry, as well as the Tufts University Alumni Dental Association Award for excellence in periodontology. I was also inducted into the OKU dental honor society. I am currently a member of the American Board of Orthodontics and the Angle Society and am an assistant professor and a member of the craniofacial team at Yale University School of Medicine and the University of Connecticut.

I currently reside in Milford with my certified therapy dogs Cooper and Lucy. In my free time, I enjoy playing hockey, boating, surfing, and taking Cooper and Lucy to schools and hospitals to bring a little joy to those who need it. I am activewith the United Way, Boys and Girls Club, Rotary, and Milford Bank.

I wanted to become an orthodontist from a very young age. I always felt a need to help make a positive difference in the lives of those around me, and there is no better way to do that than by giving people a beautiful smile. I consider this to be a family practice. Not only do I work with my own son, but we are currently treating third generations of patients. It has been a great pleasure to see children grow into successful adults and bring their own children to us.

My Bachelor of Arts was earned at Colgate University and I attended New York University for my dental degree. I was awarded the Founders Day Award for graduating in the top five percent of my class, the C.V. Mosley award for Academic Excellence, and I was elected into Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. I continued on to earn my masters degree and certificate in orthodontics, and served as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corps.

I am an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Board of Orthodontics, the Angle Society, the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, the Connecticut State Dental Society, and the American Association of Orthodontists. I have also received a United States Public Health and Training Fellowship Grant for the treatment of cleft lip/palate and craniofacial defects from the Lancaster Institute. This is the first institute in the U.S. dedicated to treating craniofacial anomalies. Currently, I am also the consultant for the Connecticut State Department of Public Health for craniofacial disorders.

I am apast president of the Milford Kiwanis Club, the chairman for the Committee for Human Services, the vice president of Milford United Way, a member of the Milford Board of Health, Commissioner of Human Services of Orange, Connecticut, on the Orange Emergency Medical Services Study Commission, and a participant in Heal the Childrens Cleft Palate Team, which providestreatment to third-world countries.

I have been a resident of Orange for more than 40years. My wifes name is Susan and we have two married sons, Eric and Gary, and two wonderful grandchildren, Lauren and Adam. We also have a dog, Cooper, and two cats, Aaron and Bella. When Im not in the office, I enjoy fishing, boating, and restoring antique cars.

Other than my Opin orthodontic family, my two kids Brian and Caitlyn are the most important part of my life. I have a golden retrievergrandpuppy named Stark andI love spending my time outdoors. My favorite place to be is at the beach.

I have been a chairside assitant for 17years and have been at Opin Orthodontics for 9 of those years. My favorite part of being an assistant is seeing thedifference orthodontic treatment can make in a smile. I make sure all spaces are closed and the teeth are perfectly aligned!

I love dogs and children! My husband's name is Joe and we have two grown daughters, as well as 2 puppies Ava and Joey. Joey is the son my husband never had. On my free time I like going for walks and working out.

Hi, Im Cooper! I ama Delta-certified therapy dog. Ihad to take intensive classes to learn how to become a therapy dog and even had to take a test! It was all worth it though, because now Igetto snuggle with patients and comfort them when they are nervous. Our doctors are the best owners a dog could ever have! They make sure I amnever left alone. They bring meto the office and take meon trips to the hospital, schools, and long-term care facilities to make new friends. I lovegetting massaged and pet all day itsthe best part of being a therapy dog. And lets not forget the treats!Cooper

Cooper is indispensable in Drs. Perry and Gary Opins orthodontic practice in Milford. Every day, he shows up to work with a cheerful disposition that never fails to soothe patients and reduce their anxiety levels.

The three-year-old, 17-pound pupis a Cresteepoo. Soon after Gary received Cooper as a gift, he brought him into the office. Garyand his fatherPerryimmediately saw Cooperspotential. Cooper was a natural around the patients, wholoved him. SoGary began researching how to make Cooper a legitimate member of the staff as a certified medical therapy dog.

To achieve this certification, the Opins enrolled Cooperin a class through Delta Society,a national certifying organizationdedicated to improving human health through therapy and service animals. Now that he is certified, Cooper is a regular sight around the office, and his services are invaluable. The Opins treat a considerable number of patients with cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial disorders.

These patients have had many surgeries and they do not trust anyone in a white coat, Perry said. Recently, he was working with a 4-year-old girl who has a hole in the roof of her mouth. He needed to take an impression so he could fit her with an obturator. Cooper jumped into her lap, and it was like anesthesia. From that point on, Perry had no problem completing his task.
