If you are experiencing sensitive teeth, it is very essential to contact your dentist. Many people experience severe tooth sensitivity. A study published by The Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA) in March 2013 disclosed that 1 out of 8 people experiences sensitive teeth. But, most do not discuss the issue with their dentist.

If you suspect or experience any form of sensitive teeth, you might think that the pain you feel while eating or drinking hot, cold, spicy, sweet, or sour beverages or food is a normal thing but its not, the simple solution is to avoid foods and drinks that trigger sensitive teeth.

Depending on the cause of the tooth sensitivity that you experience, avoiding the foods that trigger it might also help alleviate the symptoms. Also tooth sensitivity could be a sign of a very serious and severe hidden problem, which is the reason why it is very important to contact your dentist and discuss any form of tooth sensitivity.

Teeth are meant to last for a lifetime, and they will if they are properly taken care of. Also the teeth are subjected to damage over time. The Enamel can wear off, which will then make the teeth become more sensitive. The Gums can also recede, which will lead to the exposure of the root and nerves and will then cause tooth sensitivity. The Teeth can also develop cavities, cracks, and abscesses and any other form of dental problems.

If you have a cracked tooth, maybe due to the growth of bacteria in the tooth, which can lead to an infection, the crack could get worse if not taken care of. It is very important that you take good care of any dental problems as fast as possible because the longer you wait, the worse it gets.

Dental Experts at the Academy of General Dentistry recommend that you should also get a comprehensive dental evaluation to check if a tooth is highly sensitive or it strongly reacts to either hot and cold temperatures for a long time.

The recommendation of the dentist depends on your answers. Your dentist might recommend a change of toothpaste to a specially designed toothpaste for sensitive teeth or fluoride treatments in order to help strengthen the teeth and manage the symptoms or a mouth guard that will help protect the teeth from the effect of clenching or grinding. A root canal surgery or gum surgery, might be necessary in some cases. Talking to a dentist about the symptoms you are experiencing will help you find the best treatment procedure for any form of sensitive teeth issue.
