We dont like to think about the worst-case scenarios but that doesnt put us at any less risk of being in an emergency. The best we can do is be prepared and informed so when emergencies strike, we know exactly what to do. Here at Omaha Dentistry, we want you to understand what constitutes a dental emergency, and when it does occur, we want you to know that with us youll find swift and expert care for the treatment you need.

Knowing when to go to the emergency room and when to call the dentist is essential as it can save you time and money. Many people waste time when they suffer a dental emergency because they assume they need to go to a hospital when going to the dentist will be most effective. Not to mention, for most dental emergencies, the hospital will just refer you to a dentist anyway.

Dental emergencies come in all shapes and sizes; some require immediate attention while others can wait for the next day. If you have a cracked or chipped tooth you can probably wait to see a dentist, however, if you have lost a tooth completely and are experiencing severe pain or bleeding, you should go to the dentist right away.

Some simple precautions can keep you from facing a dental emergency altogether. One of the easiest ways to prevent cracks and chips on your tooth is by avoiding hard foods like ice or using your teeth as tools to open containers. Another thing to keep in mind is using mouth guards if you play sports, some of the most common injuries happen as a result of accidents during a game.
