Impacted teeth are permanent teeth that are unable to grow into the mouth properly. When this happens, the tooth is trapped below the gums either partially or completely by bone or soft tissue. Wisdom teeth and canines are the most commonly impacted teeth, although incisors, premolars, and molars are all susceptible.
Dr. Block and her team at Old Metairie Orthodontics treats impacted teeth regularly with a technique called assisted eruption, which carefully guides the impacted teeth into their proper place. An oral surgeon or periodontist will work with your orthodontist to complete this treatment.
The first step in the process is to use braces to prepare your mouth for assisted eruption by making room for the impacted tooth to move into position. Once this process is complete, an oral surgeon or periodontist will perform a surgical procedure to expose the trapped tooth by carefully moving the overlying gum and/or bone tissue. Your orthodontist will use your braces as the anchoring force that will pull the impacted tooth into place a small orthodontic bracket and chain will be bonded to the newly exposed tooth, and the chain will be used to gently guide the impacted tooth into place as it emerges into the mouth.

Horrible experience! I visited this place because I previously had braces but did kid wear my retainer and my teeth shifted. I knew I would need braces again because of the amount of shifting that occurred. I did not want to return to my previous Orthodontist because I was not satisfied with their SERVICE. I found this place online and scheduled a consultation. Upon speaking with the Dr, there were no X-rays taken, but her simply looking at the teeth and saying I can't help you because I don't know what your teeth were like when you had the braces removed. She advised me to return to my previous Ortho and get a retainer because she would have to create new records for me. Which is what I thought you would do anyway, in order to establish care. This was an overall horrible experience and I would not recommend. I've had several consultations over the past 2 weeks but this was the only provider to absolutely refuse me service.

I was a patient of Old Metairie Orthodontics for almost 3 years, and was treated with respect and kindness that created a atmosphere that was both welcoming and relaxing. Having your braces put on and having them in general can be a frightening and stressful experience, but Dr.Block and her team were very skilled and made sure I was comfortable and had no issues throughout my years of braces. Even with all my challenges of my teeth not behaving normally, and teeth not coming up as they should, Dr.Block always knew how to deal with a problem. I would highly recommend that if you need an orthodontist, you go to Old Metairie Orthodontics

Absolutely wonderful experience, from consultation, to getting my braces off; the staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and all have calming demeanors. I would not have gone to any other office and got the results I received here. I'm very pleased with how everything worked out. I had a very unusual case where I was missing my two upper laterals and the employees and Dr. Block did everything in their power to keep me happy and to get my teeth perfect. I recommend this office to everyone. You will not be disappointed in your decision I'm going there!
