Dr. Rick J. Berrios offers over 27 years of experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. With his combined knowledge and experience, he is committed to becoming the community choice for quality care. He prides himself in keeping up with and offering the latest technological advances to his patients. His goal is to provide you with the utmost care in a safe and friendly environment while making you, our patient, as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Berrios~ My educational background spans twelve years prior to beginning private practice in Los Angeles in 1987. As an undergraduate, I studied engineering at the University of Florida. After college I attended Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago. From there I went Philadelphia where I completed my residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1995 I opened my office in Huntington Beach, California. Five years later in 2000, I opened a second office in Newport Beach. In 2009 I closed the Newport Beach office and moved a mile up the street to a big location on Costa Mesa.
Dr. Berrios has been awarded the title of Diplomat by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Southern California Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Memberships also include The American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Orange County Dental Society. Dr. Berrios has also been certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) since 1984 and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) since 1985.

Berrios is qualified and experienced in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including: Dental Implants and Bone Grafting; Orthognathic Surgery (jaw repositioning); Jaw, Cheek and Chin reconstruction; Removal of Wisdom Teeth; Maxillofacial trauma repair (broken jaw); Diagnosis and Treatment of Oral Pathology; Dental Extractions; Apicoectomies (surgery on tooth roots).
Dr. Alan B. Shaw, DDS, MD is excited to provide care for the community of Orange County. As an oral surgeon with both medical and dental degrees, he is backed by training at some of the top universities and training programs in the nation. Through a solid foundation of oral and maxillofacial surgery knowledge, communication skills, and great chairside manner, Dr. Shaw seeks to create an office environment that is comfortable, safe, and efficient for his patients and his referring dentists.
Dr. Shaw attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA where he graduated in three years with a bachelor of science in biological sciences. He obtained his doctorate in dentistry from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, CA. He was valedictorian of his class, and received honors including induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Phi Kappa Phi, and Tau Kappa Omega Honor Societies, the Deans Scholarship, and more. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency and doctorate in medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Dr. Shaw has undergone extensive training in the major aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including but not limited to anesthesia, treatment of medically complex patients, dental implants, dental extractions, wisdom teeth removal, repair and reconstruction of the maxillofacial region, pathology, and orthognathic surgery. He has certifications in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and advanced trauma life support. He is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Orange County Dental Society, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and California Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Outside of the office, Dr. Shaw enjoys spending time with his wife, Julianne, a general dentist, and goldendoodle named Skip, and doing outdoor activities including hiking, camping, swimming, surfing, and disc sports.

Dr. Berrios is a FANTASTIC oral surgeon! I had to have my wisdom teeth extracted, and if I had to do it again, I'd go back to Dr. Berrios. I had two wisdom teeth; one was impacted. I had a seamless surgery as well as a painless recovery. Thank you Dr. Berrios and staff!

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed here. I can't say enough good things about not only the doctor but the entire staff. They answered every phone call and TEXT at all hours with any and all of my questions/ concerns. I was not charged for any follow up visits or anything at all that wasn't completely shown to me upfront and even received a refund of some money. This place is clean and professional and I would 100% go back.

The entire staff was very personable and friendly! Dr. Shaw did my wisdom teeth extraction and the experience led me to recommend others to get theirs out because it was a good time. As for professionalism, they made a mistake on my billing information which led me to pay slightly too much, after they noticed the mistake they sent me back a check for what I over paid. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend!

Alan Shaw And The Staff at the Costa Mesa office are amazing and surpassed all my expectations. they are very courteous, informative and accommodating. i was referred to them for the extraction of my four wisdom teeth. They Listened to my fears and concerns and i was told that they would do everything they could to make the procedure comfortable. due to my anxiety i made the decision to be put under for the procedure. i was anxious the day of the procedure but they were understanding and kept me calm. i focused on breathing through my nose, felt a pinch in the back of my hand from the iv. he told me it should take effect in about 30 seconds. i am going to describe anesthesia as best as i can. there was no transition from being in a lucid awake state to being under the anesthesia . no drooping of the eyes or passage of time. it was like someone flipped a switch. one moment i was focusing on breathing through my nose and the next it was done. i was a bit groggy and delirious but My Wife was there and they gave her instructions on aftercare. she took great care of me and got me bone broth, ginger ale and protein shakes. i am very lucky to have her in my life. . i was a bit nauseous for the first couple hours after but i took a nap and woke up feeling great. there was some slight pain and soreness for the first 3 or four days but its been about 8 days and i feel great now. i had a follow up appointment and they said its healing great. Thank You Guys for making this experience as painless and comfortable as it could be. I HIGHLY Recommend Ocean Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery At Costa Mesa. : D

Oh my, finding a truly good dentist who is competent, caring and competitive is not easy to do. Usually feel like I'm at a car dealer and ask " how much is it?" And they reply " How much you GOT?" or like a mechanic who you know is weighing your purse. Dr. Shaw and Dr. Barrios are WONDERFUL professional people. Their staff as well. You need not worry if they are overcharging you or pressuring you into a procedure you don't actually need. They are precisely what you are looking for. In the 10 years I've know them they come out as raising the bar on professionalism and quality. Love these fine folks. Go and go with peace of mind,
