Dr. Tietz is originally from New Prague, Minnesota. He attended St. Johns University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science and minored in Theology. As an undergraduate, he was an NCAA All-American and two-time Scholar All-American in wrestling. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Tietz was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Air Force. While practicing and training among some of the Nations leading dental professionals in Oral Surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, TMD and Prosthodontics, he expanded his dental base and received numerous awards for his various achievements. Dr. Tietz has been at Oakwood Dental since 2007. In 2015 he earned Fellowship status in The International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
Dr. Tietz enjoys the artistic element of dentistry, creating custom smiles for patients that are beautiful and functional in a comfortable and relaxing environment. Dr. Tietz believes that continuing education is a key to providing optimal patient care with the most advanced technology. He especially is interested in implant, sedation, and cosmetic dentistry in an environment that is calming and pain free. Dr. Tietz received his Oral Conscious Sedation permit from the Wisconsin Board of Dentistry after intensive training with the University of Minnesota School of Dentistrys Oral Surgery Department as well as through The American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. His former and current affiliations include the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association, The Wisconsin Dental Association, The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, The Academy of General Dentistry, The International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and The American Legion.
Dr. James Kertis first discovered his passion for dentistry while growing up in Rochester, MN. Using his strong artistic abilities and a desire to help others, he knew Dentistry would be a successful career path. Dr. Kertis continued his education at Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI, where he graduated with honors and was an All-American scholar athlete. From there, he attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, where he excelled in all aspects of General Dentistry.
Dr. Kertis enjoys building relationships and bringing a relaxed, friendly attitude to all his patients. He realizes coming to the dentist can be a stressful experience but is excellent at putting his patients at ease and giving them a pain-free experience. He particularly enjoys Oral Surgery, Endodontics, Pediatrics, and Cosmetic cases. Dr. Kertis enjoys the ever-changing technology of Dentistry and is actively pursuing continuing education in Implants and Sedation Dentistry.

Let this be a sign to anyone putting off dental work. I've been terrified of going to the dentist for as long as I can remember, and hadn't been in upwards of 10 years. Due to a broken molar and getting tired of being so worried about my teeth, I finally made the call. Oakwood Dental has been phenomenal to me. There was no judgment for my lapse in dental health whatsoever and they were very understanding of my fears. Dr. Tietz is fantastic and explained everything to me before we decided on the best route. I did end up needing some major procedures, but I opted for conscious sedation and honestly don't remember any of it. I've called a few times during the healing process and everyone I've spoken to has been so patient with me. I'm already booked for my next routine appointment so this never happens again. If I could give them 100 stars, I would.

Don't follow in my idiot foot steps... after being traumatized by an egotistical ortho who let me go almost two weeks with an infection in my mouth I avoided the dentist for 9.5 years. I kid you not I sat in the parking lot for 20 minutes before going in to Oakwood, because that dang anxiety kicked in and I almost left and canceled. I didn't want to be sent to the dog house by my husband so I forced myself to go in. The staff was very friendly and welcoming the second I walked in. From The staff who helped take my x-rays(sorry you had to witness that mess) and cleaned my well abandoned chompers(sorry Ashley it was a doozy for you. Jk but forreal i wont wait 9.5 years the next time!) they made me feel like I was just a normal patient who comes in every 6 months for their dental cleaning. Thanks for not making my dental experience suck less. I won't be so hesitant to come in for a cleaning next time.
