Dr. Ray Melendez is a board-certified orthodontist with over twenty years of extensive experience in adolescent and adult cases to include treatment of complex cases requiring orthognathic (jaw) surgery.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Florida and completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D) degree at the University of Florida. Dr. Melendez continued his post-doctorate education in Dentofacial Orthodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
During his distinguished service in the military, Dr. Melendez was stationed in Europe, Asia, Afghanistan and North Carolina. He served as the Program Director for the Army, Air Force and Navy, Orthodontic Residency Program at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. Additionally, he served as the primary orthodontic instructor for the Army and Air Force Maxillofacial Surgery Training Programs at Womack Hospital, Fort Bragg Army Post and at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base.
Dr. Melendez retired as a Colonel and served as the Consultant to the Surgeon General. Upon retiring he was awarded three Meritorious Service Medals and the prestigious Legion of Merits Award for his service in the military.
Dr. Melendez is considered a notable practitioner in his field and has lectured in the field of Maxillofacial Surgery for multiple Dental Residency Programs and major Universities throughout the country.

You won't feel in better hands. Ortho work is always kind of scary but Doc and the crew always made our son feel comfortable. We were always well informed and communicated with. These people are talented, caring, & are a great part of our community. So grateful to Dr. Melendez & team. Thank y'all!

Oak Tree Orthodontists , Dr. Melendez and his staff are fantastic! Dr. Melendez is so easy going, he does a very good job explaining everything and if very conservative in his treatments. I would highly recommend him and his office.

Visited for a braces consult. the front staff Cindy is not personable at all. she was very short and rude. to the point where my daughter (who we were there for) turned to me and told me how uncomfortable the interactions were being. a little communication would go a long way. we did not use insurance so we are making an investment trying to find the perfect fit. Dr Melendez is fantastic. out of the multiple ortho offices we visited, he was the best. I loved how he explained the process and options. I liked that he was the only provider so it was going to be consistent care. I liked everything he offered. I just couldn't get past the front staff. he wasn't apologetic for her behavior and knowing I would have to interact with her for scheduling or anything such as dr notes or paperwork I decided on another place. the way she made us both feel the first interaction was all I needed. though I am glad I stuck around to meet the doctor.

I couldn't be happier with Oak Tree Orthodontist. Dr. Melendez did a great job explaining the process to my daughter and me and setting expectations. He was thorough and friendly, the follow-up appointments were straight-forward, and most importantly, my daughter has a smile that she loves and regularly receives compliments on, including from her dentist.

Our daughter came here in 2020 after multiple surgeries in her younger years. Her teeth were growing in all the wrong places, missing a tooth, and one that was not fully formed. Within a year and a half oak tree made them perfect. Never seen my daughter smile so much. Can't say thanks enough!!!!

I can't imagine going anywhere else to get my daughters braces. Everyone here is fantastic and made the whole 2 year process smooth. My daughter has such a beautiful smile now. She has more confidence too!

Dr Melendez is amazing and his staff is wonderful. They are efficient, knowledgeable, and always kind. My daughter got her braces off today and we couldn't be happier. I only wish I knew about Dr Melendez when my older kids had braces. My youngest will most definitely be coming to Oak Tree Orthodontist when he is ready for braces.

Dr. Melendez is an amazing Orthodontist! My daughters teeth are absolutely beautiful now, with a perfect smile! She has also had the dog chew her retainers and Oak Tree remakes the retainers in record time. I highly recommend Oak Tree Orthodontist!
