I am truly honored to serve and treat the children of the Lowcountry in Summerville, SC. At Oak Landing Pediatric Dentistry we believe this is a place where everyone can grow from Acorn to Tree!- Dr. Gabe

For those with sensory processing disorders, we can set aside a special time for your child to have a specific environment with dimmed lights, soothing music, and minimal distractions. Please ask about this when you call.

I grew up as the middle child of 3 boys in Chapin, SC. Growing up on Lake Murray, any time I was not in school I spent outdoors! As I grew older, I discovered working with children was my passion. I completed my Bachelors degree at USC with a degree in Chemistry and taught Chemistry labs for some time before going to the Medical University of South Carolina for Dental School. It was there where I met my wife and fell in love. Upon graduation from dental school, I completed a General Practice Residency at The Ohio State University, with a special interest in hospital and special needs dentistry of all ages. Desiring to specialize in pediatrics, I then went on to complete my specialty training in pediatrics at MUSC. While in residency my education focused on infant oral health, children with special health care needs, hospital dentistry, interceptive orthodontics, craniofacial anomalies and comprehensive pediatric dental care.

Throughout my post-doctoral training I have always sought to deliver quality and compassionate dental care to all my patients. Part of this desire has caused me to continue my learning through continuing education, as well as becoming a Board Certified in Pediatric Dentistry, by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. I am also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the MUSC College of Dental Medicine Department of Pediatric Dentistry where I teach residents specializing in Pediatric Dentistry.

As a child with previous dental fears myself, I have the unique perspective in knowing what it feels like to be an anxious child at the dentist. I truly believe that each child is unique and deserves to be treated with kindness. When my wife and I decided to stay in the Lowcountry and start our family after finishing my residency, I wanted to create a place where all children could feel welcome. Oak Landing is the place where everyone can grow from Acorns to Trees.

Oral hygiene instructions will also be given with suggestions to help your child care for their own teeth. In most cases, we will also clean their teeth on this visit, and provide an evaluation that will outline any existing dental problems and proposed treatment.

Just like some words can have a positive impact, others can carry a negative impact with them. Certain negative words should be avoided prior to, or even during the dental visit. Avoiding words like drill, shot, yank, pull, hold down, etc will allow all children to better familiarize to this new environment. We believe in being honest with every patient, but we find that using different, developmental and child appropriate terms greatly helps to allay fears.

In accordance with the AAPD(American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) and the ADA (American Dental Association) we endorse that a children see a dentist by age one. This is done to establish a dental home and begin to build that relationship that creates trust over time. Early preventative visits are easy for patients and have been shown to be a cost savings to parents over time. This also helps foster positive dental attitudes and healthy habits early in life.

He specializes in the treatment and prevention of dental disease, as well as the overall oral health of children. Through 2 extra years of schooling, training, experience, and certification, a pediatric dentist is uniquely qualified to treat the dental needs of infants, children, adolescents and those with special healthcare needs.

A pediatric patient not only has a different dentition than adults but he/she may have specific dental and behavioral needs that are unique to a child. These needs may include orthodontics, dental sealants, fluoride applications or home treatments, or just simply education in oral hygiene. In addition to treating existing dental problems, our office focuses on prevention through patient and parent education.

We like to feel that you and your child do not come to our office to have their cavities fixed but rather to prevent them. Our mission is to provide all of the educational tools necessary for our patients to enjoy a cavity-free future.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourages parents and other care providers to help every child establish a dental home by 12 months of age. Establishing a dental home provides some key components to dental care for your child including...

From the first phone call through the entire appointment, we had a wonderful experience. The staff is fantastic and extremely knowledgeable, and their office works like a well-oiled machine. Dr. Gabe was kind and calming, and walked a new mom through a procedure with compassion, and was extremely thorough in his explanation. The front desk staff had all necessary paperwork ready for me at the end of our appointment, and explained next steps needed for our specific insurance situation. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back.
