Novak Orthodontics

4308 W Holt Rd, Holt, MI 48842

Orthodontics is a combination of my true loves: education, construction/building, and health. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to work in an environment that allows me to combine all of my loves in one career. As a healthcare professional, I believe it is my responsibility to share the importance of oral health. Orthodontics means more than straight teeth; it means a healthy and functional mouth and jaw that will provide beauty and self-esteem for a lifetime.

Each and every day I have the chance to create a treatment plan for patients that will not only straighten their teeth but also complement their natural beauty. I have the luxury of preparing a treatment plan that incorporates all aspects of dentistry. In creating the treatment plan prior to initiating treatment, patients are provided with a road map that will guide them in helping achieve their treatment desires. It is amazing to watch the results as that road map is followed.

I truly appreciate the trust and cooperation my patients give me and my team. Each person I meet is such a unique, intelligent, caring individual. They are always willing to share their expertise, life experiences, and knowledge with me. I enjoy learning from them and I am thankful to have them in my life.

My undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate education occurred at some of the best educational institutions in the country, including Miami University, Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Iowa, and the University of Tennessee.

In an effort to provide the highest level of orthodontic care, I chose to complete an additional, rigorous residency called Advanced Education in Orthodontics. This two-year residency involved specialized training above and beyond the education required to become an orthodontist. My residency focused on achieving ideal orthodontic results by viewing the teeth, temporomandibular joints, and oral tissues as a whole.

I have an extremely strong love for and dedication to the Lansing area. Due to the fact that I was born and raised here, I have had the privilege of knowing generations of Lansing residents. They are a special breed of hard-working, down-to-earth, caring people, and all dedicated to providing the best to their families.

As I have lived here through the best of times and hopefully the most challenging times, I want to do my part to support the community because Lansing is a great place to live. To show this support, through the years Novak Orthodontics has sponsored Holt Community Kids Day, Holt Days, Holt and Lansing sports programs, theater and art programs, Girl Scouts and Boy Scout troops, as well as the local school districts through donations for academic needs. Go Lansing!

Outside of orthodontics, my first love is spending time with my family. The warm months bring endless hours of enjoyment out on the water. My husband and I met while waterskiing competitively, and our daughter has been waterskiing with us since she was three. We all hope that our son, Troy, will enjoy the water as much as the rest of us! The cooler months are filled with four-wheeling, cheering on the Spartans, and cooking new foods.

One of my life long goals is to live by the highest moral and ethical standards. I feel my personal and professional lives should be reflections of each other. I treat and care for my patients the same as I treat and care for my dearest friends and family.

Our front office team is here to help with all your scheduling, financial, and insurance needs. Most often, theyll be the first smiling faces you see when you come into the office. Theyre always available to answer any question you may have and want to make your time here as pleasant, comfortable, and stress-free as possible.

Our orthodontic assistants help to place braces, change wires, take any necessary x-rays and photographs. They also give instruction on the best ways to take care of your braces or appliance. They love meeting new patients and take the time to make sure your treatment is an easy, comfortable and all-around positive experience from the moment you enter the door.

Staying on top of technology is of great importance to our assistants, and they can be found taking numerous continuing education courses throughout the year in order to make your treatment as effective and efficient as possible. Our assistants look forward to helping you or your child gain the self-esteem and confidence that comes with a beautiful, straight smile.

Don't worry! Braces aren't nearly as scary as you may think. In fact, braces today come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past.

  • Early treatment Early treatment allows orthodontists to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if it becomes necessary. Not everybody receives early orthodontic treatment; in some cases it may be recommended that a patient wait to receive treatment.
  • What needs correction The amount of treatment needed to correct a problem will determine how long the process takes. Different patients react to treatments differently. While it may take one patient only 12 months to complete treatment, it may take another patient 24 months. Treatment times can vary depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you expect.
  • YOU! Your willingness to use the appliances your orthodontist gives you plays a major role in the length of time it takes to complete your treatment. Always remember to take care of your braces and appliances; this truly will help make your treatment shorter!
  • Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many people your age. While braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, today's braces make it easy to look good and feel good! Please contact our practice to schedule your next orthodontic checkup.

Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists states that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the opportunity to receive orthodontic care, and now you can too.

For many adults, the thought of having metal braces is enough to discourage them from receiving treatment. However, today's orthodontic treatment options offer a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs. Types of braces include:

The main difference to remember when treating adults or children and teens, is that in younger patients the jawbones are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing, which may mean the possibility of orthognathic surgery to align the jawbones. Other differences include:

  • Gum or bone loss (periodontal disease) Adults are more likely than children to experience gum recession or even bone loss due to gingivitis or advanced periodontal disease. Patients with straighter teeth are less likely to get gum disease.
  • Worn or missing teeth Over time teeth can become worn down and shift into different positions that can only be corrected with orthodontic care. Missing teeth can cause other teeth to shift and tilt, creating a bad bite and increasing the possibility of gum disease.
  • Incomplete orthodontic treatment as a teen Many adults received some orthodontic treatment as a child or teen, but never completed their treatment. As an adult, they choose to complete their orthodontic treatment to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile they always wanted.
  • Our practice also recognizes that adults and children have different needs, and require a different level of attention and care. We will work with you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatments, and that your needs are met with understanding and respect from us.

I started treatment with Dr .Novak in June 2022. First off , after having braces with a previous provider, I wish I would of found Dr. Novak the first time around. From consultation to the day i started treatment was less than a week. The office is clean, spacious, and the employees who assist Dr. Novak are incredible. She takes her time, is thorough and personable. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great orthodontist!

I've had multiple bad experiences with other dentist and had partial braces once on my uppers. Dr. Novak and her office was a completely new (and great) experience for me. I had Invisalign, which my previous DDO had said were impossible with my current teeth alignment. She had an open door policy, where if you have an issue you could come in any time. They have a text messaging system were you can get an answer or an appointment with the same or very next business day, all the ladies there are fabulous, and they have what appears to be state of the art equipment which makes a huge difference in planning. Best news, she spent a lot of time working on my bite in the planning stages and when I hit tray 28 or so, my bite subtly shifted and pain that I didn't even realize I was having was totally alleviated. Amazing. I highly recommend.

I started my braces treatment in July of 2019, with an estimate of 18-24 months to complete it. Understandably, Covid set my treatment back a few months. To be honest, I was happy with my treatment by Dr. Novak and her team, that is, until I had paid for my entire treatment fairly early on. Once I had paid for my treatment in full, everything felt more rushed and less accommodating. My biggest issue/largest complaint pertains to my having to move before my treatment was complete. I moved from Michigan to South Carolina in June of 2021, when I should have been at least nearing the end of my treatment according to Dr. Novak. I had spoken to Dr. Novak about my upcoming move several times and expressed my concern when it came to the best way to complete my treatment. I was initially told that if I had to finish my treatment elsewhere, a small portion of the $6,200 I had already paid would be allocated to the orthodontist finishing my treatment in South Carolina. The office had looked into orthodontists in Myrtle Beach and I was told that there were "several locations where I was moving that used Damon braces and their bracket system" and that "I would have no issue finding an orthodontist" only to find out that the *closest* options were over 2 hours away in any direction. Every orthodontist I've consulted with here is telling me I have a minimum of 15 months left, and I've had to shell out an additional $4,400 to finish what Dr. Novak implied would be done in two years. The worst part is that she came nowhere near finishing my braces treatment - and I've yet to receive any kind of credit or refund for the amount of treatment I had left with her - including, but not limited to, several more office visits, having my braces removed, and my permanent retainer. What's worse is that I've tried to contact her several times regarding this matter and I've repeatedly been told she'll call me back, etc. Despite my being polite and handling this matter like a mature adult, she refuses to call me back. The way this issue has been handled is incredibly unprofessional and I'm very disappointed.

I was here a day ago, and I did not feel welcomed. Dr Novak was rude and abrupt. She does not have attention to detail. She had a picture of my teeth from 2013 with wisdom teeth. She did an exam on my teeth and then asked me will I have my wisdom teeth removed- as a qualified dentist shouldn't she have noticed I DONT have wisdom teeth with the exam? She had a rude demeanor and I would not recommend her.
