Dr. Richard Sun is a distinguished and highly respected dentist, that has been serving the dental needs of the DC metro area for over 20 years now. He received his BS in Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and continued his studies toward a dental doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago Dental School. While at dental school, Dr. Sun was selected to a periodontal externship focusing on periodontal surgery.
Dr. Suns personal approach to dentistry, along with his detailed pursuit of excellence has established him as a health care provider that you can trust and depend on for the utmost quality of care. He has been recognized as one of the top dentists in the Washington DC Area designated by Washingtonian Magazine and America 's 'Top Dentist' by the Consumer 's Research Council.
Dr. Sun stresses advanced education to pursue the latest techiniques and technologies in both general and cosmetic dentistry. His participation and passion allows him to provide the most comprehensive care, from simple fillings to implant placement.
Dr. Sun prides himself on really listening to every patient, and forming treatment plans to fit their needs. He views every patient, as a patient for life and values their commitment to proper care. Dr. Sun is fluent in both English and Chinese Mandarin.
Dr. April Kwan is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Dentistry in Houston, TX where she was President of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity and received the Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Restorative Dentistry. She grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland and went to Rice University in Houston, TX for her bachelor degree.
As a provider, Dr. Kwan is dedicated to providing quality, patient-centered, comprehensive care. She believes in focusing on prevention and patient education in order to help patients help themselves in taking control of their oral health. Her compassionate attitude and calm demeanor allow even the most anxious patient feel at ease in the dental chair. She is fluent in both English and Mandarin and will happily explain the reasoning behind treatment in either language.
Dr. Kwan believes that to be a great dentist is to be a lifelong learner and is an active member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Northern Virginia Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, and Spear Education to continue pursuing new skills and keep up to date on the ever-evolving dental profession.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Kwan is passionate about helping others and dedicates much of her free time to community service in various organizations. She also enjoys running outside with her puppy, going hiking and camping, cooking, spending time with her friends and family, and traveling as much as she can.

Dr Kwan is a very nice person. I saw her many times for dental filling, teeth extraction, and root canal. Every time she is patient and careful and takes time to listen to my questions. She is a very professional dentist. The office is very clean. All the staff are very friendly including the receptionist. I highly recommend NOVA Dental!

Dr Sun is truly the best dentist there is out there. I've been to several dentists in many states. Specifically went to 2 other dentists in northern VA, and they did not even compare to Dr Sun. His expertise in dentistry is over the top. My husband and I have enjoyed being his patients and would recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist in the area. There is not one negative thing to say. His office is very clean. The staff is very friendly. Appointments are easy to make and barely any wait time. If we could take Dr Sun to our new location we totally would!!! We will miss him.

Great dental experience with Dr. Sun and his staff. He kept my kids entertain and giggling while he did some work on them. Normally my kids would freak out at another dental practice. Definitely going back to NOVA DENTAL.
