Its more important than ever to brush and floss regularly when you have braces, so that the teeth and gums stay healthy during orthodontic treatment. Patients who do not keep their teeth clean may require more frequent visits to the dentist for a professional cleaning. Adults who have a history of gum disease should also see a periodontist during orthodontic treatment. Please watch the two videos below on the proper care of braces during orthodontic treatment.
What can you eat? Lets talk about what you shouldnt eat! For the first day or so, stick to soft foods. Avoid tough meats, hard breads, and raw vegetables. Before long, youll be able to eat your normal diet. But youll need to protect your orthodontic appliances when you eat for as long as youre wearing braces.
When you get your braces on, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and your teeth may be tender to biting pressures for 3 5 days. Take Advil or whatever you would normally take for a headache or discomfort. The lips, cheeks and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become accustomed to the braces. We will supply wax to put on the braces in irritated areas to lessen discomfort.
To successfully complete orthodontic treatment, sometimes we have the patient wear rubber bands. Its very important for the patient to work together with the orthodontist. The teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears the rubber bands or other appliances as prescribed. Lack of cooperation following instructions and damaged appliances lengthen the treatment time so please follow all instructions!

We love Dr Norton and his staff! My 11 yo was super nervous and they were very patient with her and moved quickly to help her see it wasn't so bad. We are grateful to have found them!

Both times we have visited so far all of the staff is so upbeat, happy, & friendly. Their interactions with both me and my daughter are welcoming & the environment is inviting. I was even chair dancing to the great music they had playing while I watched my daughter get her invisaline on. I am SO happy we are using Dr. Norton's office.

From the moment you walk in the door, the staff is friendly and welcoming. The office was also very clean and summer festive. Our daughter had a thorough exam and the doctor explained his plan for her allowing us to ask any questions we may have had. When we decided on using Dr Norton, they were able to accommodate us and our daughter was able to have her braces it on this same visit.

Amazing staff and Dr Norton was fabulous! Took my son for a consult and decided to get them on that day! He was a bit anxious and the whole staff was super accommodating and sensitive to his worries. I didn't need to look anywhere else after the consult! My son was so excited after they were on and I can thank them enough for being so kind!

When I first began to think about getting braces it was an overwhelming thought. So the first step I took was by making consultations. The consultation with this office was such a good experience, from how well organized they were to always providing reassurance to me whenever I had any concerns or questions. The positive atmosphere is what I love most! Today I got my braces off and I couldn't be happier with the results I got, well worth the 2.5 years. Dr.Norton and his staff provide exceptional service and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone for their orthodontic needs.

Our son is a new patient who just moved from out of state. He needed what we thought would be a new bottom retainer after breaking his. What a pleasant experience immediately upon walking into the office! Erin greeted us warmly and made us feel right at home. The team took photographs of our son's teeth and called us back to consult. Dr. Norton was very warm and pleasant...immediately putting my son at ease. Instead of replacing the retainer, which would have cost several hundred dollars, Dr. Norton said it would not be necessary, and simply smoothed out the sharp edge that was chipped. Dr. Norton could have easily charged us to replace the retainer and we would have never known the difference. Instead, we were charged only for an office visit! This showed us that he cared about the kids and their families and is not simply charging people who don't know any better. His honesty goes a long way with us and lead us to highly recommend Dr. Norton and his team!
