Dr. John Merrill was raised in Michigan as the youngest of five children. His father was a chemical engineer who became a full-time Methodist minister in his 30s. His mother was a full-time mother and homemaker who went into social work, devoting her focus to helping victims of domestic violence. She even wrote much of todays social work training curriculum for the state of Michigan.
Dr. Merrill is a graduate of Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan, which was voted the #1 dental school worldwide in 2019. He practiced for 25 years in the northern lakeside community of Charlevoix, MI where he was devoted to his patients, his church, and his five children: three of which are adopted.
He, his wife Natalie, and six of their eight children moved to North Carolina in 2008 where Dr. Merrill was hired as medical director for Carolinas Center for Oral Health and to head up a multi-specialty dental practice as part of the Carolinas Healthcare System.
He served there for over five years, treating patients and leading their organization in the highest patient satisfaction scores. He is a nationally recognized clinician treating many dentists as patients throughout his career.
He approached Dr. Merrill with the story of Fundi who had some severe dental issues. Fundi and her grandmother were traveling 16 hours one way to see a dentist in Kathmandu! Despite their efforts, they were in desperate need of an enormous amount of dental care and expenses.
Your local Huntersville dentist, Dr. David Bunn, was born and raised in Michigan but spent vacations in North Carolina visiting family and enjoying places like the Outer Banks. Spending time with his familys dentist kindled his interest in dentistry as a way to combine his two passions: helping people and expressing himself artistically.
Today, he restores smiles bringing together beauty and function as our dental implant doctor in Huntersville, NC. Dr. Bunn is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, which was voted the Open new tab to read article #1 dental school worldwide in 2019.
Following dental school, he furthered his training through a general dentistry residency program through the University of Florida. This training focused on comprehensive dentistry, including dental implants. He returned to Michigan where he worked in a private practice for three years. When the opportunity arose to move to North Carolina, he jumped at the chance to relocate and escape the cold. Since 2017, hes called North Carolina home, and were thrilled to offer his amazing expertise in restorative dentistry.
