Dr. Walter Tatch is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and has been in private practice for almost 20 years. He is a graduate of University of California at San Francisco and University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Tatch is a Fellow of American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American and International Associations of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations including American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and ADA. He has given lectures on various topics in maxillofacial surgery at the local societies, as well as professional meetings.

Dr. Tatch has published articles in various scientific journals, including Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Journal of American Association of Cosmetic Surgery. His area of expertise encompasses a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The area of special interest includes complex hard and soft tissue reconstruction in preparation for placement of dental implants. Dr Tatch has performed hundreds of All -on-4/5/6 cases with immediate occlusal loading and rehabilitation. Dr. Tatch has devoted his career to excellence in patient care and comfort.

Dr Tatch has extensive training and experience in both non-surgical and surgical facial cosmetic procedures as well as laser treatments. With many hours of continuing education and utilizing cutting edge technology, his goal is to achieve the most ideal results for patients.

Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for placement of dental implants.

With bone grafting, we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing, but also the ability to promote new bone growth in that location! This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.

Autogenous bone grafts, also known as autografts, are made from your own bone, taken from somewhere else in the body. The bone is typically harvested from the chin, jaw, lower leg bone, hip, or the skull. Autogenous bone grafts are advantageous in that the graft material is live bone, meaning it contains living cellular elements that enhance bone growth.

However, one downside to the autograft is that it requires a second procedure to harvest bone from elsewhere in the body. Depending on your condition, a second procedure may not be in your best interest.

Allogenic bone, or allograft, is dead bone harvested from a cadaver, then processed using a freeze-dry method to extract the water via a vacuum. Unlike autogenous bone, allogenic bone cannot produce new bone on its own. Rather, it serves as a framework or scaffold over which bone from the surrounding bony walls can grow to fill the defect or void.

Xenogenic bone is derived from non-living bone of another species, usually a cow. The bone is processed at very high temperatures to avoid the potential for immune rejection and contamination. Like allogenic grafts, xenogenic grafts serve as a framework for bone from the surrounding area to grow and fill the void.

Both allogenic and xenogenic bone grafting are advantageous in that they do not require a second procedure to harvest your own bone, as with autografts. However, because these options lack autografts bone-forming properties, bone regeneration may take longer than with autografts, with a less predictable outcome.

This product is processed allograft bone, containing collagen, proteins, and growth factors that are extracted from the allograft bone. It is available in the form of powder, putty, chips, or as a gel that can be injected through a syringe.

Graft composites consist of other bone graft materials and growth factors to achieve the benefits of a variety of substances. Some combinations may include: collagen/ceramic composite, which closely resembles the composition of natural bone, DBM combined with bone marrow cells, which aid in the growth of new bone, or a collagen/ceramic/autograft composite.

Dr Tatch has been performing advanced bone reconstruction using BMP since 2008, the year it was approved for Oral and Facial Surgery by FDA. He provides unparallel experience and expertise to his patients

Synthetic materials also have the advantage of not requiring a second procedure to harvest bone, reducing risk and pain. Each bone grafting option has its own risks and benefits. Dr Tatch will determine which type of bone graft material is right for you.

Staff is well-managed/organized, helpful, and always kind. Waiting room, and patient rooms are modern, updated, and well taken care of. Over the years Dr. Tatch has performed 3 implants and 2 sinus lifts on me, and several implants on my husband and also my mother. Our respect and admiration for Dr. Tatch's level of skills and professionalism are well-earned and he has our patient loyalty for any future work that needs to be done. His calm, kind, reassuring, and caring bed-side manner are appreciated bonuses after the excellent work that he does. Our family gives Dr. Tatch a resounding recommendation for implant and sinus work. He takes top-notch care of his patients, before, during, and post procedure.

Dr. Tatch and his team were fantastic!! I had to go in and get 2 impacted wisdom teeth and 1 infected tooth removed. I was nervous about this whole procedure but his team knew how to calm me down. I received an oral sedation, put on my headphones and before I knew it, I was being placed in the recovery room! The whole procedure was painless and very easy. I will definitely recommend anyone who needs any type of oral surgery to Dr. Tatch and his team in Gurnee!!

He addressed all of my concerns and questions, he's extremely professional, and he made my experience the best he could where I was comfortable throughout the entire experience. I HIGHLY recommend him!

Dr. Tatch has hands of gold, wonderful personality, and is an absolutely amazing oral surgeon. Every procedure he has done for me was done professionally, accurately, quick, and as "reasonably" painless as could be hoped for. And he was sure to explain each step to me clearly and personally followed up with me to ensure I was recovering properly. I highly recommend him!

I was debating on whether to get a chin implant with a plastic surgeon in Chicago or getting a sliding genio with a maxillofacial surgeon (Dr Tatch) and am so glad I went with the latter. I wanted a doctor who was more skilled in handling the facial structure, bones, and tissues and ultimately went with a maciofacial surgeon over a generic plastic surgeon. Dr Tatch was incredibly down to earth and such a pleasure to work with when it came to my consultations, surgery, and post surgery. Looking back, I'm so glad I didn't go with a chin implant as they have known issues like bone erosion, shift in position, and a high removal rate over the long term. I can rest assure my results are a part of my natural bone and permanent :). Thx Dr Tatch!

I was looking for an oral surgeon on-line the first office I called the girl who answered the phone was very rude. Next on the list was Dr. Tatchs office. Within the first 30 seconds I knew this is where I wanted to be. I needed a few teeth pulled at that time and I was in a lot of pain. They were able to get me in to see the Doctor the next day. While I was there I asked Dr. Tatch about implants and he explained to me the 4-1 denture and how it worked. I was definitely interested and I knew within 5 minutes I trusted Dr. Tatch Now Here I am in the final phase of my journey. Not only did the nurse call me that afternoon to see how I was doing but that evening Dr. Tatch called me wow.. I was raised in the medical field (parents are retired Doctors) and honestly I have never been more impressed by a Doctor (except my parents of coarse). Dr. Tatch and all the amazing women working there are genuinely kind, compassionate, considerate, friendly and extremely helpful.. The Lab person who makes the temporary and final denture is amazing. Everyone thinks these are my final teeth.. imagine how amazing the pernament ones are going to be..

I am thankful beyond words for Dr. Tatch and his entire staff in providing me with an exceptional experience with my surgery. Dr. Tatch was able to get my consultation and surgery in quickly. Dr. Tatch is very knowledgeable, and everyone is so friendly! I was apprehensive at first, but they made sure I understood my surgery and made sure I felt comfortable with the procedure. I've heard so many horror stories about wisdom teeth extractions, but my surgery went very well! I attribute it to Dr. Tatch and his staff. After the surgery, they helped me get to the car and checked in on me routinely afterwards. My recovery was much faster than I expected. Overall, the whole staff team is outstanding, and the service is amazing. I would highly recommend Dr. Tatch for all oral surgeries!
