I enjoy getting to know my patients, and I hope you spend a little time to read about me. I was born and raised in Hue, Vietnam. My father fought in the Vietnam War as a South Vietnamese Army Captain and alongside the United States of America. The North Vietnamese Army captured and imprisoned my father for eight years, and his release came when the Vietnam War ended on April 30, 1975, when the North Vietnamese Army overtook Saigon. Although my father had his freedom, life after the war was a difficult adjustment for him and my mother.
Soon after the Vietnam War, Vietnamese refugees began to flee their homeland. The first wave consisted of South Vietnamese, United States government officials, and selected Vietnamese families. My family was not part of this group; instead, after the fall of Saigon, the new Socialist Republic of Vietnam sent millions of former South Vietnamese military officers to re-education camps, including my father. Luck began to turn in our favor in the early 1990s; because my father was a former political refugee and prisoner, under the United States Humanitarian Operation Program, our family was able to leave Vietnam. In 1991, my family and I immigrated to Denver, Colorado through the sponsorship of an elderly American couple.
My life was difficult in Vietnam, and I thought coming into the US would be a lot better; however, living in the United States possessed its own hardships and challenges. Adjusting to American culture was difficult; I could not speak a word of English and kids gave me funny looks as I talked to them in Vietnamese. I realized that life was different and challenging but certain people in my community lent their hands and helped us with our transition. Before separating from my parents, they taught me to be honest, hard-working, and considerate of others.
At the age of 16, I began the Casey Foundation Independent Living Program and by my junior year in high school I was living in an apartment, paying my own bills, working an average of 35 hours a week as a waiter. I was also still able to graduate high school with honors while taking Advanced Placement classes such as AP Chemistry and College Calculus. I sacrificed my high school graduation to graduate early so I could enlist into the Marines. There they fortified my discipline for hard work, perseverance, leadership, teamwork, and integrity.
While at the University of Iowa working towards my B.S. in Biology, I received orders to deploy to Iraq. My heart sank as the thought of dying young went through my mind; however, in hindsight, being in Iraq has been the best experience in my life. I interacted with the locals, and I noticed they did not have much left in their war-torn country, yet, I never once heard them complain about their lives. I had the opportunity to teach the Iraqis people proper hygiene, including oral hygiene. I taught kids and adults how to use toothbrushes and toothpaste to brush their teeth. I could tell they were grateful for my help. These interactions were gratifying and influenced my decision to pursue dentistry. Dentistry, to me, is a profession that brings me joy by helping others. I love meeting my patients, getting to know them throughout their treatment process, but more importantly, it fulfills my duty as a human being to help others who are in need.
I love to spend my free time with my wife, Ellen, my daughters, Emery and Kennedy, and our Cavachon puppies, Rylee, Lucy, and Willie Mays. My idea of a fun time is being with family and friends. I enjoy home projects and reading. I also enjoy working on cars and motorcycles. I stay active by riding my bicycle, running, and enjoying many other outdoor activities.
After high school, I attended the University of Iowa where I received a bachelor's degree in psychology and chemistry and a master's degreein epidemiology. I attended dental school at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics where I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
Dentistry is my passion because I am a people person. I am very gentle and caring and love to establish great relationships with my patients.I also have an eye for detail, esthetics, and an artistic and creative side; being a dentist allows me to utilize these skills in a way that can change lives and I cannot think of a more rewarding career than that.
I want to establish trusting relationships with patients and get them excited about going to the dentist. I want to play a role in helping people change not only the appearance of their teeth but also the quality of their life.

I am beyond thankful for Northpark Dental. My daughter was experiencing tooth pain and she was able to be seen the next day. Everyone at this location was extremely friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend!

Excellent practice. Dr.Trungs work looks sooo good if your concerned about aesthetics. Good aesthetic work is very hard to find. They care about their patients and will go above and beyond. If you are looking for a new dentist go here, if you can get in there very busy because they're so good. Highly recommend Dr.Trung and this practice.

This practice is beautiful, immaculately clean, with modernized equipment. Today I had a root canal done, and the whole time, Dr. Trung kept checking to see if I was ok; he made me feel like I was his special patient. The last time I took my 5-year-old daughter for cavity removal, Dr. Ellen cared for her so well that now she can't stop telling the world she wants to be a dentist. I normally don't write reviews, but this place is too amazing!! Thank you for being the best dentists!! :)

I went to Northpark Dental for a checkup and in need of restoration work. My checkup went fine and we scheduled an extraction for only a few days later, which I was very grateful for. Dr. Trung and the staff were kind, patient and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. The extraction went well and I have had no unexpected complications. However, I was in a great deal of pain for the first 36 hours after the procedure. I have had gastric bypass surgery and because of this, I can't take NSAIDS as pain relievers. I let the staff know this at both appointments. I was advised to take Tylenol for the pain. Today when Dr. Trung followed up with me to see how I was, he advised that he was unable to prescribe opiates, but offered to prescribe something to help with the swelling, which would in turn likely help with the pain. I'll keep this in mind for next time I'm in for work so I can ask for them. I plan on taking my kids here for checkups - the care I've received has been great. Today was the first time I had a dentist check on me personally. That alone is worth 5 stars.

Today I called Northpark Dental due to an emergency with a tooth. They were able to get me in same day and even called to bring me in sooner to evaluate my tooth and provide the best option for me. I have always been skeptical about going to the dentist and all the review are true! Dr Trung was so kind and made sure I comfortable during my time with him. His staff are truly amazing people! I will be a patient and only see Dr. Trung and his staff for all my dental needs!

Staff is kind and helpful. The Drs make the experience pleasant. I was listened to and taken care of during my procedures. Clean and asceticly pleasing space. Our experience has been that billing and insurance are smooth and easy.

I have had the pleasure of seeing both Dr. Babor and Dr. Phan. This office has to be the most personable office I have ever been to, starting with the front desk when you walk in the door. It is clear they truly care about their patients and they show genuine care and concern for everyone that walks in their front door. I have had multiple bad experiences at different Dentist Offices, but thankfully that is behind me - I've finally found my Dentist(s) for life! If only I could add more stars!!!!!

My husband and I are new to Northpark Dental. We both love the service we get there and always talk about how nice Dr. Trung is. He and the other staff members are always very gentle and ensure we are comfortable. They are diligent, nonjudgemental, and make sure your teeth are healthy! We are very grateful that we found them.

During my business trip to Urbandale Iowa, I needed to have a tooth pulled. Dr. Trung without hesitation agreed to accept me as a new patient. I am so grateful that I found Northpark Dental. Years ago, I had a horrendous dental experience at another office and it kept me from ever wanting to return to the dental office again. Eventually I found myself in horrible pain and was lucky enough to find Northpark, I called and spoke with Dr. Trung directly. He kindly put me on his schedule for the end of the day, even with being a new patient. Not only that, but Dr. Trung is extremely talented in what he does. He made me so incredibly comfortable, I didn't feel a thing during the wisdom tooth extraction and had no pain afterwards, a HUGE difference from horrible experience I had at the previous dental office years ago. The whole staff at Northpark is extremely kind and non-judgmental, they all make it a very easy and nice experience. Dr. Trung goes above and beyond and makes you feel like you're part of the family, highly recommend!!! Will be a happy patient for years to come.

Dr Trung is a super hero dentist. I've had a pretty severe phobia of dentists and Dr Trung has really help me overcome that. He has an amazing chairside manner. Even his voice is calming. All dental work I've had done is perfect. He truly is everything you could ask for in a dentist. The new facility is really nice. His staff is pleasant too. Just a stellar experience all the way around.

I switched to this dentist office recently because of working from home, and I have never been happier! Dr. Trung Phan knows his stuff. He pointed out some areas of concern that my previous dentists had never mentioned, and took pictures to show me what he was seeing. I've never had that done before and greatly appreciate understanding what he sees and why it's important. I feel much more comfortable with my dental health now. I'm excited to return for my routine visits with a dentist that I finally trust! Add to that the brand new office and outstanding staff, this place is definitely a level up.
