Im Dr. Gwendolyn Buck. My friends call me Gwen or Gwennie. Let me share with you who I am. I have a passion for life, for enjoying each moment we are given on Earth, and that passion shows when Im at work. You can hear the laughter throughout the office every single day. I have an incredible, smart, capable and most importantly caring team, and our office is filled with patients who we genuinely enjoy.

I grew up in the Copper Country and moved to Marquette when I was 9 years old. As long as I can remember Ive dreamed of being a doctor, to use my brain to the best of its potential to help people. I have always had a deep interest in science, and I love learning new things.

My original goal after having a successful career was to retire early and spend several months each year doing mission dentistry. However, I didnt expect to love my job so much! So the plans been modified-I never want to retire, but I do want to continue and expand the mission dentistry that I do. So far, Ive been to Panama, Honduras, Bolivia, Peru and Guatemala. Being born a lucky American in the 20th century, I feel its my obligation to humanity to help those poorest of the poor, those who make so little that even buying a toothbrush is not an option. I want to leave this world a better place than when I entered it.

Other things that are important to me in life are my family and friends, great food, trying new things, dancing (no, Im NOT any good at it!), dreaming and accomplishing some goals Ive dreamed up, and making sure I have a beautiful heart. My current goals include improving my Spanish and attempting to enjoy running. I need challenges and growth in life to be fully satisfied.

Northern Trails Dental Care is a reflection of who I am. Each patient deserves the most gentle touch every moment I or any team member is caring for him/her. We mindfully reach for the highest quality care with the lowest cost to our patients. Health care costs have become unreasonable. Instead of shrugging our shoulders and saying I guess thats how it is, we have taken an active interest in helping our patients to afford the dental care that they need. We search for the best supply prices, saving money on inexpensive patient bibs and spending money on the best cement and restorative materials (but at the best price possible). Although our facility is beautiful, care was taken to provide a relaxing, high tech environment while sparing unnecessary expenses by having the least expensive wall trim, a shingle (not metal) roof, paint instead of wallpaper, among other details, so that you can enjoy the best environment while at a reasonable cost.

My education includes a BA in Biology with a minor in French from Northern Michigan University, a DDS from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and an Advanced Education in General Dentistry certification from the University of Florida Jacksonville. Continuing education is so important to me and my team. Several times throughout the year, we participate in lunch seminars, travel to conferences, and meet about changes we feel we should make to improve patient care. Thousands of dollars are invested every single year on continuing education for myself and my team. Youll find our team at Northern Trails Dental Care very passionate about being the best we can be, for our patients and for each other.

If youre looking for an entirely different dental experience, where you are really listened to and cared for in a low-stress environment, please come and meet our team. I invite you to discover how amazing dental care can be. Welcome!

Ive been a RDH since 1991. As a hygienist I have met so many wonderful people and have become close with many of my patients over the years. The best feeling for me is when they tell me how great their mouth feels after Im done with their cleaning. Im happy to be a part of so many beautiful smiles walking around. I have learned many things from my patients too. For example, what movies are a must watch, best restaurants, books to read, and some great hiking and kayaking spots. Since I was born and raised in Marquette I am an avid lover of outdoor activities. In my free time you can find me on the trails either riding my horse, hiking with my hubby and dogs, or snowshoeing. I also enjoy kayaking, going out in the side by side and barrel racing.

Hey there, Ashley here! To be honest, the dental world is a newfound love for me. Although, after my first visit as a patient here at NTDC, when my husband and I moved to the area, I got home and said I want to work there, it sounds like they have a great time! And 5+ years later, here I am. Who wouldnt want to be surrounded by laughter day in and day out?

Being born and raised in the U.P., this is home. I find joy in all of the seasons. We love to go camping, snowmobiling, hunting, pontooning, ice fishing and so much more. We have 2 kids and 2 dogs. I make custom tumblers for fun and am also in a paranormal investigating group.

Our team will be wearing masks, and the clinical team will also have face shields on. You will likely hear the hum of additional air purifiers we have installed throughout the office. These people are amazing! On my way to my appointment, I managed to injure my knee (aggravated an old injury actually), so I limped into the office, and I was immediately asked what happened. After I explained, the doctor told one of the staff to get me an ice pack and while that was happening, another of the staff brought me a specially configured pillow to hold my legs in place while i was in the dental chair! That and the ice pack made my visit 10,000% better than it would have been without them. The thoughtfulness of the people at this facility is really amazing, it is obviously part of the culture of organization. Oh, and treatment chairs are massage chairs! If I could, I'd give them a sixth star. Highly recommended!

Dr Buck & all of her staff are absolutely amazing, very friendly & caring! I have been searching for about 5 years for a dentist to see regularly & have had numerous bad experiences along the way. All of my anxiety was washed away after 5 minutes in this office! I was given a treatment plan that works for me & finally got the recommendation for the implant that I've needed/wanted for 4 years! I couldn't be happier! I will definitely be recommending Northern Trails Dental Care to anyone seeking a dentist! Thanks again for seeing me!

Dr. G always runs a tight operation but presents a relaxing jovial type of atmosphere as her laugh resonates through the building. Her technical work continues to be excellent as she ensures that the patient is comfortable and kept informed. She and her staff keep a high standard to comply with the C19 requirements although I observed one employee in the reception area behind the partition not wearing a mask. I did not address it because she was distant and behind the partition. If she had claimed that she could not wear a mask then I would have provided a shield as the employer. I bring it up because the other two people were wearing their protection which made me wonder if everyone understands its purpose. The one wearing a mask or shield is protecting others and not themselves. The one who is not wearing a mask is expelling their respiratory droplets toward those they are addressing. A mask can cut down the receiving party's exposure but not totally. As usual the staff was polite and welcoming. That factor and the design of the interior environment always makes it enjoyable to go to the dentist...well almost enjoyable. May 2021: Afternoon appointment for a cleaning and again found everyone in a great mood (just after a good lunch?) at the top of their game as demonstrated by Dr. Gwen's leadership. The hygienist, Kim, has done the work for me on a couple of other occasions and I have noticed that she continues to improve. She has become more diligent in doing a comprehensive job and did not miss a beat this time while keeping up an interesting and engaging conversation. As usual Dr. Gwen's boisterously pleasing personality came through and made the visit pleasant. It will be nice when the C19 protocols can be lifted. I don't have the greatest phone because I don't need one so it takes a few times to get a signal. We still need to call in so someone can come out to the parking lot and escort us into the building. The march through the door to the back still feels weird when thinking of "the way things used to be." Maybe playing the theme song to "Cheers" as you enter (where everyone knows your name) would help. Or be weirder. May 2022: The C19 protocols are almost a thing of the past but according to the CDC we have to be on guard for a rebound this summer. So, even if it proves to be temporary, it was good to to feel somewhat normal again including seeing the coffee machine in place. I needed only a cleaning so the visit was routine. Kim was very thorough in doing her job and kept the atmosphere light and pleasant with nice conversation. My spouse's experience previously to mine was reported as the same. We continue to recommend Northern Trails.

As always, Dr. Buck's staff are friendly and professional. The hygienist, x-ray technician, and office staff are extremely competent and thorough. Dr. Buck is friendly and welcoming. She explains the exam process and answers questions. At my last cleaning, she noticed some scaling on my left ear, suggested an appointment with a dermatologist, and it turned out to be a pre-cancerous area. That's one of many reasons why I highly recommend Dr. Buck and Northern Trails Dental Care to anyone looking for quality dental care.

I am so very pleased with Northern Trails Dental Care Office. I was a total coward having to go to a dentist before. I have had extensive work done on my teeth and there were some painful times. It was many years ago. When I called there this week on Monday to make an appointment. I was able to go the very next day for my broken tooth... Everyone there was so helpful and friendly, including Dr. Buck, Like I said I have never felt comfortable going to the dentist, but it actually was a pleasant fun experience and never felt any discomfort. They took excellant care of me and were able to do a root canal and put in a temporary tooth until the permanent one comes in. I couldn't believe even how the temporary tooth felt so perfectly fitted for my bite and looks great too. I highly recommend them to anyone who is (was) a coward. You'll be pleased with being comfortable and at ease and with the results. I thank everyone there! from Lois Westman
