Phillip Kohut, DMD is a North Carolina native. He went to dental school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, then completed a two year General Practice Residency at Wake Forest Universitys Bowman Gray School of Medicine/Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He decided to open his own dental office in Northchase after spending over a decade practicing at the largest Community Health Center organization on the East Coast, where he, among other things, served as Dental Director. He is also a faculty member at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry and is involved directly with the teaching of dental students.

He lives in the Wilmington area with his wife Jennifer, their daughter, Jenson, who is in nursing school, and their two school-age boys. The family has a cat and two dogs, one of which is Doc, their young Golden Retriever, who is also an office dog in training (but he has a very long way to go).

Dr. Kohut and staff are great. He's one of the greatest Dentist I have ever known. He does his best to become personal with each individual and will always be honest with you about your options. I would most definitely recommend family and friends to his office. And as far as being on the "call" list it is what it is we all have emergencies and other things that come up but his office has policies that we as patients have to respect and I for one believe he's worth the wait.

They took care of me on a Saturday on my "emergency" (crown pulled off Friday evening). I plan to switch Dentist to these people. :) Update. I had more problems with my crown a year or so later. It was obvious that my tooth was rotting (above the gumline thankfully). I was offered a low cost solution along with the higher priced best options. I took the low cost solution, it worked well. I found everyone here to be caring, friendly and excellent at what they do. I am very pleased to find NFD! :)

I have had horrible dental anxiety for a long time, I also have really bad teeth/gums. I have been to this office 3 times in the last month and i don't get any anxiety going anymore. Everyone is just so nice and caring. My dentist is a miracle worker, he's so patient and does an absolute amazing job. I'm so grateful for everyone there. They have truly made me feel comfortable about myself, and what they need to do to my teeth. Im so beyond thankful to have found them.

Tried to cancel an appointment due to be exposed to covid - I was told to just come in. When I stated I was unable to and I would need to reschedule; I was then put on a call on basis only list. Fast forward to my child having an appointment. I received a text message at 4:02pm asking me to confirm her appointment for the upcoming Tuesday. I immediately called at 4:03pm to let them know we would not make it due to a death in the family. Once again I was told we were going to be put on a call in basis only list because we did not give them 48hrs notice. You were willing to risk your staff and other patients after a patient told you they had been exposed all for money. Good riddance.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. This "Dr." referred me to ECU dentistry school as it was the closest office that would take Medicaid. They assured me that since my procedure was going to be so extensive (11 extractions at once) I would be made "comfortable" especially as I have extreme anxiety with dentists and my pain would be managed. ALL LIES. I received NOTHING BUT Nitrous ONCE at the beginning of my surgery and was given nothing for pain afterwards. They only gave me 6 gause pads and sent me on my way. After a night of total discomfort I called North Chase Family Dentistry (since they made the referral after the suggestion of the procedure) to let them know how it went and get some help with the pain this "Dr." refused to help giving me any excuse he could. Hey CLEARLY doesn't care for any patients that are covered by Medicaid or can't pay cash. Hey was rude to me personally and dismissive on the phone when my face was swollen to the size of a grapefruit and I was in need of help. Think twice before going to this place unless you're rich. Hey doesn't care.

I had a fear about going to the dentist. because of my one-time experience long ago. the dentist called himself pulling my tooth, unfortunately he did not pull all of it, I was in pain my wife finally talked me into going to this dentist at Northchase Family Dentistry .this doctor is a very good professional I tried to make jokes, to make him laugh, but he doesn't even crack a smile and that's good because he stays focus on his job. I advise anyone who has the fears that I had Northchase Family Dentistry is the place to go.

I am a retired hygienist and took my 91 year old dad there for a check up. The office is immaculate and has very up to date equipment. Trish, the hygienist was a true professional and did an exemplary job. The dentist, Dr. kohut did a thorough exam and took the time to explain everything to us. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for great dental care.

I have been to several Dental Clinics in Wilmington But the one I really recommend is this. The reasons are that they have an excellent staff. My little 3-year-old daughter loves coming to this Clinic as her first experience with the Doctor was fantastic. All of our family come here happy as we have excellent service. Thank you

It's a little disheartening to see any type of negative reviews about this office! I called with the worst toothache, I had medicaid (they had no judgment) they was kind, understanding and I was in the office the very next morning at 7am! They all have been helpful, kind and so considerate about my situation. Doctor took the time to explain everything to me, very gentle and took his time with taken my teeth out ( I never felt anything, not even the shots) I was in a rush for time, he went beyond measures to make sure I got my teeth back in time along with changing my life in such a positive way. I've went 3 years without a smile, covering my face, crying from embarrassment but thanks to this AMAZING Doctor and the staff for giving me my smile back!! I've never seen a doctor take so much pride in his work. I'll never be able to THANK YOU ENOUGH

I give no stars. Amy White is my fiance, "Dr." Kohut, and I dont appreciate you insinuating that she not a "good person". How unprofessional are you to even write such a response? That should be a testament to everyone out there reading these and potentially considering using this guy as your dentist. It seems like every review that you get that isn't stellar involves you deflecting responsibility for any mistakes you have or may not have made. On a professional level, thats less than honorable; speaking to who you must be as a man, well, that says all I need to know. I was the one who contacted your staff(who were actually decent people), but when you deceptively asked to speak to Amy,directly, (under the guise of the intent to only write her the prescription she needed after you spoke to her directly) then telling her she just had to 'deal with it' and it's 'not your problem'...well, I challenge anyone to take that kind of verbal abuse from someone that you're supposed to trust with your medical needs and not get upset especially when you've had 11 extractions within 12 hrs and was only given nitrous prior to the surgery. I guarantee you wouldn't deem this sort of behavior acceptable, "dr.", and would want better for yourself and loved ones...As far as I'm concerned, you are the least professional dentist in MY town and as far as a person, to speak to and about a woman the way that you did shows a lack of respect, kindness and fortitude required to call yourself a man, nevermind the esteemed title or "Dr.". I hope you do better and pray for you and your staff that you CLEARLY could learn ALOT from in regards to being kind. By the way, it's generally not a good idea going around disrespecting real men's better halves..just add that the the exceedingly long list of things you need to learn..psa, over.
