Dr. Alton Thomas was born and raised outside of Greenville, North Carolina. He attended Arendell Parrott Academy, and following graduation, he moved to Wilmington, North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Dr. Thomas received his Bachelor of Science in Finance, and he then moved to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where he worked in sales and distribution for building materials.
It wasnt long until, following an epiphany at one of his dental visits, that Dr. Thomas realized he had missed his calling. Having studied finance at UNCW, it was clear he needed significant schooling before heading off to dental school.
Once his prerequisite coursework was completed through the College of Charleston, Dr. Thomas decided to take on what he calls a cultural experiment and moved to Portland, Maine, where he attended the University of New England to obtain his Doctorate of Dental Medicine.
In his free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys anything having to do with water; surfing, wakeboarding, boating, and fishing. If you would like to know anything else about Dr. Thomas, please do not hesitate to ask during your next dental visit.

New patient visit June 2022. I waited 3 weeks to get in. They did not verify my benefits before my visit and the day of my appointment their system was down. I was told I had to reschedule or pay cash and get reimbursed once my insurance paid the claim. Since I waited so long for the appointment and I took time off work, I paid cash ($400+). It is now September and I have yet to be reimbursed. I was told 6-8 weeks. I have verified the claim was paid to them through my insurance company weeks ago. My biggest complaint is that I have left 2 messages for a call back from the office manager and also did the online chat options (they relayed a message to the office as well). No one has returned my call. Its too bad that I have to continue to chase down my money for something that was not my fault. I now have to either go in person or research other next steps, outside of attempting to contact the practice directly, to seek reimbursement.

I was so impressed with the dentist's compassion and understanding.. Worked with me on the following: Medication, prescribing the one necessary for me duty to allergies without confrontation; waiting to proceed treatment, as to vacation and insurance coverage delay.. Total communication as well! Overall, I would highly recommend this doctor and office

Was scheduled for a cleaning at 9:00. I set untill 9:35 no one explained why. She buffed my teeth with gauze. My neighbors also had problems. Also scheduling problems for the last 6 months . NOT GOOD!!!

I have a number of questions first because of scheduling problems on your part I will only be seen once this year and I pay for two. It's been eight months since I've been checked, today no X-rays and no check by the doctor. Why should I come back.

After going to the sweat shop dentist for 2 years, Aspen Dental, AD, this was like a breath of fresh air. This Dentist office loves making their patients smile. They show real concern and genuine involvement. It's not about the money here. It's about u the patient. Aspen Dental had told me I needed peridontal cleanings the rest of my life for a $152 additional wvery time, over and above my insurance. Joanne, the Hygienist of 30 years said, u don't have Peridontal gum disease, in fact ur gums are in good shape, u don't need peridontal cleanings. You never want to have them contiually because it could cause more problems. AD told me I would have to remove a crowned tooth because there wasn't enough to hold it. NMB Denistry said, there is plenty of tooth to hold it. They also told me things AD never told me I had. Here, they care about u. I will always be back and I will refer my friends and family. No more sweat shop for this gal. So blessed to have found this Dental practice. 10 stars is deserved!!!

Wow! I had an amazing experience at the dentist today. Can you believe that?!! Connie cleaned my teeth and it was the most enjoyable experience. She was quick, precise, always checked in with me to make sure the progress was going fine. I'm requesting Connie every time I go.

I was on vacation and had a terrible tooth ache.. the staff was so accommodating and pleasant to deal with! Dr. Narayan was very through, took her time to explain things and so very cheerful! Made going to the dentist less painful! Would recommend them highly!!

I would highly recommend North Myrtle Beach Dentistry. I've been going to them since opening and each visit was always a pleasant experience. The front office, hygienists and Dr's, are all wonderful.

The BEST dentistry practice! Friendly staff. My hygienist, Lisa is so helpful to me. I am a very apprehensive patient with fear of going to the dentist. Can't say enough good things about everyone there!!

This place is beyond amazing! My mom broke her crown while we were here on vacation and they took her in immediately and pieced it together and cemented it so it would last until we got home and could get to a dentist. The sweet lady who did it was precious and Dr. Shaw was so sweet and helpful. The whole practice needs to move to Waxhaw NC so we can all be permanent patients of theirs! Not enough stars to show how pleased and thankful my mom was!!!

Dr. Thomas was absolutely wonderful! I came in very nervous- due to previous experiences at other Dentists- for a tooth extraction and he and his team took the time to reassure me and make me comfortable. He made sure the area was totally numb before extracting my very broken bad tooth. It is now the next day and I have to say, I had zero pain when the anesthetic wore off after the procedure and still now, the next day, zero pain/discomfort. Thank you!

I expirenced somewhat of a dental emergency while on vacation here in Myrtle Beach. I reached out to North Myrtle Beach Dentisty online and was able to set up an appointment right from their website. Super convenient might I add. I got an immediate response via text message with my appointment date and time. When I arrived at the office ALL of the staff was kind, knowledgeable and understanding. I was of course embarrassed but they made me feel so comfortable. I can't thank them enough for their kindnesss and understanding. Loved them so much I may just have to make Dr.Shayal Narayan my primary dentist from now on. She was absolutely amazing. I couldn't think of a better excuse to have to visit the beach twice a year. Thank you again to all of the wonderful staff.

A crown came off unexpectedly. Called North Myrtle Beach Dentistry and they were able to get me in the next day to reattach it. Everyone was very friendly and professional.
