Modern dentistry offers a variety of techniques to help patients stay comfortable during dental procedures. Learning more about these techniques can ease patients' concerns about the procedures they need. A sedation dentist uses medication to provide patients with a safe and comfortable dental care experience. Sedation can make necessary dental procedures much easier and is one of several options available to manage pain and anxiety at the dentist's office.

A sedation dentist administers medicine that helps patients relax during the procedure. For most patients, this comes in addition to the usual pain relief, or an anesthetic, which is typically administered through an injection to the affected area. Sedation has the added effect of reducing patient anxiety and awareness of the details of a procedure.

WebMD explains that sedation for dental procedures can be mild, moderate, or deep. With mild sedation, most patients remain fairly alert but feel relaxed. Moderate sedation induces a deeper state of relaxation; patients undergoing it may not remember much of the procedure. Patients under deep sedation are still conscious but become drowsy and detached from their surroundings.

There are several types of medications potentially used in dental sedation. They can be given as a pill or administered intravenously. For minimal sedation, patients may receive gas inhaled through a mask. This type of sedation wears off quickly. The type of sedative used is determined by the patients treatment, their tolerance, and conditions or illnesses they may have.

Local anesthesia is typically administered for minor restorative procedures such as cavity fillings, tooth extractions, root canal treatments, dental crown placement, and scaling and root planing. General anesthesia, usually inhaled or administered through an IV, is used for more severe procedures. It is commonly used for bone grafts, corrective jaw surgery, general tooth extractions, oral cancer surgery, sleep apnea surgery, cosmetic dental procedures, and cleft lip/palate surgery.

In addition to patients who suffer from nervousness, candidates for sedation may include those who have difficulty sitting for a long time. Some dental procedures necessitate remaining in the chair for a long time with minimal movement. Various physical and mental conditions can make this extremely difficult for some. Other issues where sedation can help include a strong gag reflex or a low pain threshold.

Sedation can help patients get through most types of dental procedures. Preparation is key to making things go smoothly. Taking the following steps can help patients get the dental care they need with minimal pain and anxiety:

  • Ask about available sedation types: A sedation dentist may use several types of medication. Different dosages can also control the strength of the sedation. Patients should also tell the dentist about their preferences; for example, a patient who dislikes needles may benefit from oral or inhaled sedation instead of having an IV.
  • Review medical history, including allergies and medications: Some medical conditions or medications may interact negatively with some sedation components. It is important for the dentist to have all relevant information in order to administer sedation properly. Patients whose medical history makes some types of sedation contraindicated can still benefit from other formulations.
  • Go over the information with the sedation dentist: A sedation dentist typically provides detailed instructions on how to prepare for a procedure under sedation and what to do afterward. It is important to follow these recommendations correctly for optimal comfort and safety. Be sure to ask questions if any instructions are unclear.
  • Make arrangements for getting home: Patients undergoing most types of sedation are advised to arrange for a ride home. The effects of sedation can linger for some time and can include drowsiness or dizziness. With certain types, it may be safe for the patient to go home on their own shortly after the procedure. The California Dental Association notes that the mild effects of nitrous oxide typically last for about 15 minutes after the procedure.
  • A. Sedation can help with most dental procedures, including fillings. Based on the length of the procedure and other factors, a dentist can recommend an optimal approach for individual patients. Even routine procedures can cause anxiety for some, so sedation is a great option for allaying it.

    A. Dentists determine the optimally safe dosage and type of sedation for each patient. There are typically no lasting side effects. However, patients may feel dizzy, drowsy, or nauseous for up to four hours after the procedure. These effects can vary.

    A. It is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing. Dressing in layers can help patients stay warm, as body temperature can drop under sedation. Dentists recommend avoiding large amounts of accessories.

    A. In most cases, one should take medications as usual. It is important to let the dentist know about all medications you take. The dentist can then let you know if any changes are necessary on the day of the procedure.

By visiting us as soon as possible, our team can help get you the professional treatment you need. Instead of waiting around and allowing the symptoms to get worse, we can provide you with treatment options.

Dental veneers are quick and easy dental restorations. These are thin shells capable of covering any visible blemish, stain, discoloration, or damage. Veneers are either porcelain or composite resin. Your cosmetic dentist can attach these restorations in no time. Advanced 3D technology can even make the procedure as quick as one day. If you want

An Invisalign dentist can help people fix crooked and misaligned teeth. While many people are reluctant to get visible metal braces, Invisalign offers a clear, almost invisible alternative. This system of clear aligners gently moves teeth into alignment to help them achieve their smile goals.

Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of clear aligners that gradually straighten teeth over time. These aligners are removable and do not have any brackets or wires. They consist of a patented thermoplastic material called SmartTrack that fits snugly over teeth. Each aligner in the series encourages a slightly different position than the previous one, making the overall correction a steady yet gentle progression.

The process of receiving Invisalign trays usually takes around four weeks. Once we take impressions or scans of the patients teeth, we must send them to the Invisalign factory with notes about how the treatment should progress. Then, the factory will determine the optimal amount of trays and send the specifications back to us.

We will make any necessary modifications and then email the changes to the factory. Once implemented, the factory will create the trays, and lab technicians trim each one individually to match the patients gumline. Although there is a waiting period before a patient can begin treatment, this process ensures that the treatment process will be effective and comfortable.

One of the greatest benefits of Invisalign is its clear, almost invisible appearance. The clear aligners are also easy to remove for eating, so patients can eat and drink without restrictions. Once removed, wearers can easily clean their teeth since there are no metal wires in the way. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, making for improved oral hygiene and health. Crooked teeth can trap debris and bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease. When untreated, this can cause a range of problems, from teeth loss to gum disease.

In most cases, adults and teens are the best candidates since they have fully or mostly developed bones and teeth. Invisalign works more effectively for patients with less severe crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. People with severely misaligned teeth, bites, or significant gaps may benefit from a different means of correction.

People who are interested in Invisalign treatment should conduct thorough research to find the right Invisalign dentist. It is crucial to find a skilled and reliable dentist since the provider will dictate the quality of treatment results. People should research the dentists education, training, and certifications to ensure that they have the right experience and knowledge.

When the aligners are ready, patients will return to our office for a fitting. Invisalign dentists can also provide Invisalign attachments, which are small and button-like. They are attached to a patients teeth to ensure aligners stay in place. These attachments are temporary and removed when treatment is complete.

    A. Straighter teeth can lead to better oral health. When teeth are crooked, people can find it difficult to clean some areas properly. Having straighter teeth should help people clean their teeth more easily and thoroughly.

    A. Patients may feel discomfort for the first few days with each new aligner. The treatment design shifts teeth with each new aligner. Patients will feel the most pressure at the start of each new position, but this signifies that the treatment is progressing.

    A. Patients can choose to use the Invisalign cleaning system or brush the aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear liquid soap. Avoid using hot water, which may warp the trays. It is also important to soak the trays every day for 15 to 30 minutes.

Patients can enjoy a more comfortable and functional bite after losing teeth with dental implants. Implants act as artificial roots to anchor permanent teeth replacements. If you are missing one or more teeth or need to have one extracted, dental replacements can be a great option to restore your smile.

Dental implants act as artificial tooth roots to support new replacement teeth. During the procedure, an incision is made in the patients gum to expose the bone where the implant will be placed. We will then insert the implant and suture the gum around the implant post. In some cases, a temporary denture is used instead of replacement teeth.

Following the surgery, the bone needs to heal around the dental implant. This process can take several weeks or months. Once it is sufficiently strong, a dentist can fit the permanent replacement teeth. According to the Mayo Clinic, some extra steps may be necessary. For patients with weak jawbones, a bone graft may be needed to ensure sufficient strength. After the bone has healed, an abutment connects a crown or dentures to the dental implant.

Caring for dental implants is very similar to caring for natural teeth, especially if the replacement teeth are permanent. Brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash is necessary for maintaining proper oral hygiene with implants. Getting regular checkups and teeth cleanings at the dentist are important for taking care of replacement teeth.

Dental implants may require extra cleaning to keep them in optimal condition. Removable, implant-supported dentures should be taken out at night and soaked in a denture solution. Patients can also use an oral irrigator to help clean below and around the dental implants.

Following the procedure, it is common to have swelling and discomfort around the implantation site. Some patients may experience minor bleeding and bruising of the skin and gums in the treatment area. These side effects can be managed with pain medication and antibiotics if necessary. Patients can expect such side effects to subside after a few days.

After receiving dental implants, it is best to stick to eating soft foods while the bone heals. Most dental implant procedures use dissolvable stitches, so patients will not have to come back to get them removed. These stitches will usually fall out within seven to 10 days. Following the aftercare instructions and advice will help the healing process.

  • Comfortable: Dental implants act as tooth roots and stay firmly in place. This firm foundation makes them more comfortable than dentures and other replacement tooth options. Many patients report that implants feel similar to their natural teeth.
  • Functional: The stability of implants makes them effective for eating, talking, and cleaning. They function similarly to the teeth they are replacing. Less permanent options may interfere more with daily life.
  • Permanent: Dental implants are one of the most permanent tooth replacement options. They can last a lifetime with good care. Additionally, fixed replacement teeth on implants do not need to be removed every day for cleaning.
  • Natural-looking: Implant-supported replacement teeth look like natural teeth. The visible part of the dental implant is a cosmetic crown made from a composite material that is color-matched to the patients tooth enamel. It can be hard to tell the difference. Many patients enjoy dental implants aesthetic appeal, as others cannot tell the difference between the replacement and natural teeth.
  • A. According to the Cleveland Clinic, dental implants have a success rate of up to 97%. Furthermore, they can last a lifetime with proper care. Dental implants are one of the most permanent solutions for missing teeth.

    A. No, implants may support one or more replacement teeth. Some patients receive partial dentures with multiple teeth, while others receive a full arch of teeth. Dental implants are a flexible solution for each patients needs.

Dental implants are highly recommended when it comes to replacing missing teeth. These oral prosthetics are surgically inserted into your jawbone, replacing the root that came out when you lost a tooth.Replacing lost teeth with dental implants requires minor oral surgery, and the implant is given up to six months to fuse with surrounding bone

These people are angels sent from heaven! They were so patient, understanding, and kind. They took the time to explain every step and checked in with me the whole time to make sure I was still doing ok. It took me twenty years to go back to a dentist, and I'm sorry I waited this long. Had I known how amazing this office was, I would have come a lot sooner. Don't hesitate, I have the worst anxiety about this sort of thing and if I can do it, anyone can! They made the entire experience so much easier than I ever imagined. Thank you all so much!

Can not recommend this facility enough. Each and every staff member is so kind. I haven't been to the dentist since childhood and I was so anxious and plain terrified to get my tooth pulled, but the assistant and dentist were so kind and reassuring. Thank you NMFD, I hope you all know what a difference your kindness and caring ways make for all patients! Beyond grateful for such wonderful care.

This review has been started and left unfinished by me so many times that I can count them all... it's never finished because it's never good enough to hit the I'm"post" or "done" button. I've finally accepted the fact that I'm simply not capable of articulating this review in manner that feels "good enough" to me or ever will. It's been eating at mewhat do you say to a stranger that wants to show you that a dream you've had for so long, one that deep down you KNEW it wouldn't ever actually happen and for so many reasons, you knew it would be a ridiculous notion to ever entertain the idea that... it would or even could actually happen. So many reasons why the experience was happennevepplr really took seriously in terms of it becoming any kind of reality deepest most selfish ow massively important and life altering it is when a dream you've had - a wish or a desire that's been living in your heart so long that it's become a permanent part of who you are -

Amazing service and attention to detail. I am currently doing an Invisalign treatment and I am on the last few sets. I was coming from out of state and they fit me in. There was an error in the aligner size, and they rescanned my teeth and expedited the sets before I left again for out of state. Danielle put on my attachments today and was very gentle+thorough. Dr. Flack is very personable and you can tell he's dedicated to his work. They got me in very quick when one of my attachments came loose, I was in and out within minutes. Very impressed by the progress my teeth have made in such a short amount of time. They fixed my overbite and crooked teeth. I loved getting Invisalign, I highly recommend getting them and doing it through Dr. Flack's office.

I am new to the area and was looking for a new dentist. My last checkup was 6 months ago and there was no inkling of any cavities. Note that I had been going to this dentist my whole life and very much trusted them. I decided to try this office and was told I had 4 cavities and one tooth they'd like to "keep their eye on." I had my X-rays and diagnostics sent to my old dentist. He didn't see what Dr. Schuck was seeing. I also had these sent to another dentist in town and went to see them in person and that dentist also didn't see what they were seeing and she didn't feel any soft spots in my teeth that would warrant a cavity. They also showed me the X-rays that they sent over and they were TERRIBLE...very blurry and definitely were not the same X-rays that were shown to me by Dr. Schuck. Seems like quite the scam they have running and I am so thankful I trusted my gut and got second opinions. I now see other similar reviews on here and have heard from others after telling them my story that they've heard similar things about this place. Go somewhere else!!!!!!!!

I have gotten three implants. Two of the implants were my front teeth, and you cannot tell that they are implants. They matched my other teeth perfectly! I'm currently doing Invisalign to straighten my smile.

I've spent 10s of thousands of dollars to get a beautiful smile. I got a complete upper denture and a partial lower. Everything went well, I had a smile that I hadn't seen in years. Three months later my teeth no longer show when I smile. I went back only to be told, "I could have another denture made, but it will cost more money to replace." A three month smile is all I got for the 10s of thousands of dollars of money that I spent. I am extremely disappointed with the results from the meeting I had with Dr. Keith Flack, to discuss my 3 month disappearing smile. I'm left with more out of pocket expense, a smile that doesn't exist and a company that appears to only care about the money they make.
