North Coast Dental Group began in 1956 as an independent practice on the Keeler Street Circle. Its founder, Dr. Stanley Handelman, who became chairman of the Department of General Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Center, partnered with Dr. Jack Howitt, a pediatric dentist who also practiced in the same neighborhood. The two dentists combined their practices in the late 1960s at 1400 Portland Avenue. As the busy office attracted more and more patients, its founders reached out to some of the most respected dentists they knew at the Eastman Dental Center; Drs. Brenner, Levy, Musiker and Weiner.

Today, North Coast Dental Group offers comprehensive services to its patients of every age. We have built a staff of highly skilled hygienists, assistants and administratorsall focused on ensuring a positive dental care experience for you and your children. Many staff members have been with the practice for many years, so you will see familiar welcoming faces each time you visit the office.

Dr. Carlos Xavier was born and raised in Fortaleza, Brazil where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Fortaleza in 2007 and his post-graduate certificate in Prosthodontics

North Coast Dental Group participates with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and accepts assignment of benefits from other dental insurance plans. We are happy to provide estimates in advance of the amount your insurance will pay towards your treatment, and we accept that amount as partial payment. Patients are responsible for the remaining balance or co-pay after insurance. All payments are due at the time of service. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, cash or check. In addition, we offer financing through CareCredit, for which you may qualify for low-interest or no-interest payment options to cover dental care expenses, depending upon your credit history and eligibility.

A graduate of Tufts College with a dual bachelors degree in biology and psychology (and minors in the Classics and Archaeology), Dr. Malcolm Musiker earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, topping off his excellent academic record with election to Omicron Kappa Upsilon Academic Honor Society.

The opportunity to complete a combined two year advanced education program at the Eastman Dental Center and The Genesee Hospital lured Dr. Musiker to Rochester from his native Milton, Massachusetts. His success in the Dental General Practice Residency at the Genesee led him to become the first Coordinator of this residency program. For 24 years, until the hospital closed, Dr. Musiker was on staff as a Senior Attending Dentist. Dr. Musiker was also the dental director at Westside Health Center which is now part of the Anthony Jordan Health Center.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Musiker co-authored a chapter in a textbook, The Oxford Handbook of Applied Dental Sciences (Oxford Press), which reviewed basic sciences for undergraduate dental students. He has contributed to numerous articles on dentistry, dental education, and archaeology in professional journals.

When hes not in the office, you might find Dr. Musiker in a canoe in Mendon Ponds Park, photographing area wildlife or fishing and exploring the Finger Lakes. He is active in the rescue and adoption of retired racing greyhounds, sharing his home with four greyhounds to date. He and his wife, Judy, have two grown daughters who live in Rochester and NYC with their families.

Dr. Howard Weiner was born in Baltimore, MD and later lived in Long Island, NY and Pittsburgh, PA where he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Economics. After a three-year career as a kitchen designer, he returned to the University of Pittsburghs Dental School, graduating in 1984. Following his graduation, he and his wife relocated to Rochester, NY for his residency in the Advanced General Dentistry Training Program at the Eastman Dental Center.

Dr. Weiner joined the North Coast Dental Group in 1987, while traveling to treat patients in the underserved areas of the southern tier of New York, and teaching staff of the Eastman Dental Center, a position he held for 10 years.

As a general dentist, Dr. Weiner enjoys providing all phases of dental care with a patient centered philosophy. This focus is based on meeting the individual needs and desires of each patient with the highest level of quality and efficiency. He has continued his education with an emphasis on cosmetics, implant reconstruction, invisible braces, and endodontics.

Dr. Weiner is an instrument rated private pilot and has three grown children with his wife, Sue. They are expecting their first grandchild later this year!North Coast Dental Group is a proud sponsor of local groups in the Rochester area including youth baseball and hockey teams, as well the Lifetime Care Hospice Regatta.

A native of the Greater Rochester Area, Dr. Medler received his undergraduate education at St. John Fisher College, where he earned a Bachelors degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He put his undergraduate degree to work at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he spent five years in clinical microbiology.

Dr. Medler earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Following dental school, Dr. Medler completed a hospital based residency at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ, in association with Atlantic Health Systems and Hackensack University Medical Center. Following residency, Dr. Medler moved into private practice in the Hudson Valley region.

Dr. Medler, his wife Sarah and stepdaughter Arianna, have returned to his roots in order to associate with the North Coast Dental Group. He is a General Dentist, a long-standing member of the ADA, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and a welcome addition to the North Coast Dental Group family.
