Dr. Choudhary is a board-certified periodontist with Diplomate status in the American Board of Periodontology. After dental school, Dr. Choudhary completed a three year residency program at the prestigious Ivy League Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and New York Presbyterian hospital in New York City. During the residency, he also received a Masters of Science Degree in Periodontology from Columbia University.
Dr. Choudhary's specialty includes periodontics, dental implants, soft tissue grafting, oral surgery and advance bone regeneration in atropic jaws. Dr. Choudhary has been placing implants since 2002 and has successfully placed thousands of implants. He is one of the very few surgeons in the DC Metro area providing the zygomatic implants for patients with advanced bone loss. Dr. Choudharyis a big proponent of using the latest technology and techniques to provide state-of-the-art treatment to his patients. He utilized the current generation of growth factors, graft materials and Cone Beam technologies to ensure optimal treatments for his patients. Dr. Choudhary is a visiting professor at Columbia Univeristy College of Dental Medicine where he teaches the residents and other surgeons the latest sinus augmentation and dental implant surgical techniques.
Dr. Choudhary also did research at NIH and at Columbia University and published numerous articles. His research is published in the top peer-reviewed scientific journals such as Science, Nature Biotech, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, and Clinical Periodontology. Even as a dental student, Dr. Choudhary was involved in teaching and wrote a student handbook on dental anatomy and occlusion. The book was published and is used by dental students to study for their board exams. Dr. Choudhary is the recipient of numerous awards from various universities, dental schools, study clubs, and dental associations.
Dr. Choudhary grew up in Falls Church, Virginia. After working in New York City and Los Angeles, he returned to be closer to his family. He currently resides in Bethesda, Maryland with his wife and practice partner, Dr. Joan Howanitz, two children, and their family mascot Lucky, the Wheaton Terrier. When not spending time with his family, Dr. Choudhary enjoys boxing, cross-fit training, traveling, listening to music, and working on cars.

I began my formal studies at the prestigious University of Southern California, graduating in 2001. I went on to attend the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, where I achieved my post-doctorate Master of Science in Periodontics in 2004. I continued to serve as an associate faculty member at the school until 2006, at which time I achieved Diplomate status with the American Board of Periodontology.
I was born in Syracuse, New York, and moved to Santa Monica, California, as a teenager. I returned to the East Coast and now reside in Bethesda with my husband and practice partner, Dr. Choudhary, our two children Isabella and Alexander, and our dog Lucky. My family is my top priority and passion in life. We love spending quality time together, whether volunteering at our childrens schools, traveling, or just relaxing at home.

I have worked in the dental field since 2019, and started with North Bethesda Periodontal Group in 2020. I am so glad I found this office! Our doctors are nice, professional, and truly caring - both Dr. Howanitz and Dr. Choudhary make it very easy to work with them. The entire staff works together so well! I am originally from the Philippines and speak fluent Tagalog and English. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my cat, Orianna, and going out of town with family and friends. I also enjoy movies, reading, poetry and trying out different restaurants.

When I am not at work, I am a grateful mother tomy daughter, Stella, who loves everything outdoors; camping, hiking and gardening. I attended Kaskaskia College in 1998-1999 for dental assisting school and moved to Maryland in 1999.I have enjoyed working in dentistry ever since!

I moved to Maryland in September of 2020. Before coming to this practice, I worked as an insurance specialist at a cosmetic dental practice. Since moving here, I like to spend my free time visiting with friends, watching movies, and spending lots of quality time with our family dog, Larry.
Our team of surgeons, restorative doctors, implant representatives, and lab technicians have been working together for years. We play on each others strengths and always are patient-focused to deliver the best for our patients.

Dr. Khalid Choudhary was kind, professional, and masterful in explaining the procedure to me beforehand, and making sure I was comfortable and cared for while he was doing the work. The staff was helpful and supportive as well. The only way I could see to improve the practice would be to validate the parking, as there is no free parking at the office. I am a cowardly dental patient and felt in good, caring hands throughout the process.

I have dental implant recently at North Bethesda Periodontal Group recommended by primary dental doctor. I have an excellent experience there. All the members (both doctor and other staffs) did a great job and makes you feel very comfortable. I have several dental implants before in the different places. I like this group which is very nice for both skill and service. Highly recommended.

This was my second time having dental implants (2 each time ) placed by Dr Choudhary and his team. Both tines it was an excellent experience. Dr Choudhary is an excellent dentist and a very nice and understanding person which makes your worries disappear. All of his staff are extremely polite and very good at their job, they make you feel so well looked after because they are very focused on what they are doing, very professional. I highly recommend Dr. Choudhary and his team members.

Dr Choudhary is one of the most (if not the most) talented and humble doctors/surgeons I have met. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, he is also kind, and takes time to answer questions and explore options. On top of that, his staff are friendly, efficient and professional; the office seems like a well oiled machine. I would use this practice regardless of network because of the quality of care

I highly recommend North Bethesda Periodontal Group. Almost three years ago I moved from Bethesda to Baltimore and though the commute is enough to give anyone pause, I have stayed with NBPG for my treatment because the experience has always been the best dental experience I have had. My only regret is that they are leaving my insurance in June so i will need to find a practice closer to home but In honestly i am considering paying out of pocket just to continue to work with Dr Chaudry who is both personable and professional. He goes to great lengths to make me comfortable and to explain the procedures and outcomes in great detail. This is the practice you want for all your periodontal care!

I owe a huge thank you to Dr. Howanitz and the entire staff at North Bethesda Periodontics. After going to another Periodontist and being quoted a price of $11,000 (with insurance) for a gum graft of four areas of my mouth, I decided to get a 2nd opinion and I'm so glad I did! Dr. Howanitz is personable and friendly, and even made me laugh a few times. She disagreed that I needed four areas done. I ended up making an appointment to get 2 areas done for a fraction of the price that I had been quoted by the previous Periodontist. The almost 2 hour procedure was literally painless! Dr Howanitz and her team were so gentle. Talking me through each and every step. I brought my airpods and listened to music to help me relax and pass the time. A few days after the surgery, one of my stitches came loose on a Saturday morning. I reached out to Dr. Howanitz but didn't expect a response until Monday. Not only did Dr. Howanitz respond right away, but she told me I could meet her at the office in 90 minutes so she could take a look. I was so grateful!!! I highly recommended Dr. Howanitz and the staff at North Bethesda Periodontics. They go above and beyond and I am a very appreciative patient

Dr. Howanitz and her staff were all wonderful. Beginning with personal calls to remind me of my appointments, to the warm greeting when I arrived. The doctor and staff took time to completely explain the procedure I was going to have, truly made me feel comfortable thru the surgery and follow-ups. I was extremely impressed with North Bethesda Periodontal Group. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. Choudhary gave me expert care and treatment for a bone loss situation. He also is extremely kind and caring,and he and his assistants always made sure I was comfortable. He creates an immediate feeling of confidence that everything will be done right. And it was ! After the procedure was over Dr. Choudhary and the staff made sure I had all the information I needed for my post-procedure care. My experience at North Bethesda Periodontal Group could not have been better and I am grateful to everyone there.
