Dr. Van Orenstein grew up right here in Newton. His training allowed him to see the country from coast to coast, and after all that, he realized that Boston is a kind place and returned home. After attending Newton North High School and the University of Vermont, he completed his dental degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his pediatric dental specialty at UCLA. Despite living in the Sunshine State for 5 years, Dr. Van returned so that a hometown kid could serve his community.
Dr. Van Orenstein is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is one of a small number of pediatric dentists to complete this additional degree of recognized excellence in pediatric dentistry. Additionally, his two year residency in pediatric dentistry gave him extensive experience working with children and adolescents with special needs, sedation dentistry, state of the art technology, and the most up to date research in the field.
Newton Pediatric Dentistry was created to be a welcoming and positive kids dental practice for all children, from infancy through the teen years. We are a team made up of individuals who love working with young people to help steer them towards happiness and healthiness. Our philosophy is grounded in the idea of prevention. Through regular exams, identifying risk, and developing strong healthy habits, we do our best to stop troublesome dental issues. This includes consistent thorough dental home care. We understand our role as health professionals to motivate and educate our patients, tailoring plans to their individual needs.

My daughter has sensory sensitivities and wouldn't let any other dentist work in her mouth until this one. She loves the positive energy, the video screen overhead and the prizes at the end and looks forward to her visits!

We've been a patient for 7 years and as true as day one to today as soon as you walk in you and family are in for a treat! I know it's a dentist we're reviewing but Dr. Van and his staff know how to make a welcoming space for what can be scary. All around superb professional staff and good dental care.

My 7 year old daughter's experience was incredible. She has special needs and Dr. Van's office was prepared for her visit. Yolanda was our hygienist and did an incredible job explaining the whole process to my daughter. What made the experience very unique is that they have a tv on the ceiling so that when they are lying down getting their teeth checked, they can watch a video which was a great distraction. My daughter was so excited. She hasn't been able to tolerate a visit at any other dentist we've been to in the last two years. She even let them do x-rays! My visit was out of pocket up front and reimbursable through my insurance which the dental office submitted for me.

Best experience ever. Our son struggles with anxiety and because of Dr Van and his group's patience, he can now seamlessly manage a full dental checkup with no anxiety at all. Our daughter has had a number of complicated dental needs and is always happy to go see Dr. Van, despite the uncomfortable procedures she's had to deal with. All in all, he's patient, fun, and great with kids and parents alike. I highly recommend this practice.

This place was absolutely wonderful. It was our child's first time at the dentist and they walked us through a lot. Everyone was very pleasant and interactive with our child. They took their time to get our child comfortable and demonstrated what they were going to do before doing it. I highly recommend this place.

Dr Van has been amazing and makes going to the dentist something that is no longer scary. Dr Van had a strategy when we had fillings done in 2 separate visits. My child wasn't phased in the least and had no issues going back for the second! Highly recommended for anyone, espeically kids with sensory issues.

All the staff is great and the environment is so child friendly. They have the latest characters for the toothbrushes and Nexflix at the ready for distractions. All questions are answered and reminders shared in a friendly and encouraging way. Dr Van Quick sparkles/vitamins and we were on our way!

Dr Van was very rude during my recent visit he raised his voice & talk to me in front of my kids to explain few things about my son's treatment. Both my son & daughter mentioned they don't feel comfortable to go here and don't like the way he spoke to their mom. I have to cancel my kids all the current & future appointments. I have been to many good Dr's. Never ever have this kind of experience till today.Also, front desk calls back to back (from 2 different ladies )had to pick up the call in the middle of my important meetings demands for the immediate payments and gives explanation now after the visit about they can't claim insurance . Initially they said they take insurance and now informs me they only take few kind of insurance.

Dr. Orenstein is amazing with kids, always makes my daughter laugh. Also, we are a big fan of her being able to watch netflix on the ceiling during the exam and cleaning. Highly recommended!

Dr Van and the whole team at Newton Pediatric Dentistry are wonderful. My daughter had dental issues that started around 2 and Dr. Van worked with us on a plan that was the least invasive, kept her teeth healthy and allowed her to get comfortable with the dentist. She's almost 6 and all has gone as planned - she loves going to the dentist and her teeth are healthy.

Dr. Orenstein has been my kids' dentist for many years. I fully trust his care. He is very knowledgeable, great with procedures, and truly enjoys taking care of kids. We are always seen on time, the staff is friendly, and the kids are given a lot of attention to make sure they are comfortable.
