Our practice is a state-of-the-art facility. We utilize digital radiography, which reduces the amount of radiation exposure, and an intraoral camera, which allows us to improve diagnostics and show patients exactly what is going on in their mouth.
We know that without our wonderful family of patients, we wouldnt be here today. As a way to say thanks, every existing patient who refers a friend will be entered into a raffle drawing every three months. Prizes include iPads, iPods, and other cool gadgets.
Most importantly, patients at our office have the ultimate and final say in their dental treatment. We believe it is our job to present all possible options and allow patients to be in charge of the treatment they feel most comfortable with.
K. Douglas Barker, DMD, is a cosmetic and general dentist at Newport Center Smile Design in Newport Beach, California. He is most passionate about implant dentistry and uses his surgical and prosthetic skill set to restore peoples smiles in a conservative and non-invasive way. At Newport Center Smile Design, he performs the majority of oral and dental implant surgeries himself, and offers Invisalign, full mouth reconstructions, and custom veneers.
Dr. Barker decided at a very young age that he wanted to be a dentist. As an orthodontic patient from the age of seven, he remembers the warm compassion he received from his orthodontist and their staff, which left a great impression on him. Today, he strives to exhibit the same compassion for his patients.
Originally from Florida, Dr. Barker attended the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in zoology and participated in research on American alligators. He stayed at UF to complete his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, and he is proud to be a Florida Gator. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Barker moved to Brooklyn, New York, for a two-year general practice residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. During his residency, he became interested in cosmetic and complex prosthetic cases, including placing and restoring implants. He then went on to practice dentistry in Manhattan and Queens.
Dr. Barker engages in continuing education and attends the annual Greater New York Dental Meeting in New York City. He has also been taking more advanced prosthetic courses, specifically in implants, and is a member of Spear Education, a platform that provides continuing dental education. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association.
Outside the office, Dr. Barker is married to his lovely wife, Heather, and they have two children. When hes not working, he enjoys being outdoors cycling, running, surfing, swimming, snowboarding, or wakeboarding. He also enjoys mountain biking and competes in triathlons every season. Dr. Barker stays actively involved in his community and has participated in mission trips to Honduras and the Dominican Republic to provide dental services to people in need. He has also biked across the United States with Push America, an organization that raises funds and awareness for individuals with disabilities.

After my horrible experience with Dr. Douglas Barker and his staff, I seriously question the reality and legitimacy of all these glowing five-star reviews. Competency of a dentist who is not willing to stand by his work is questionable. Be careful with this guy and do not take him for his word since it changes by minute. Make sure you get everything in writing including a warranty for his work and make sure there is no "catch" by making you to go back to his office every few months for the lifetime of the warranty and spend another thousands of dollars in order to get the warranty!! A competent dentist strives to provide a unique experience and build a positive environment for his patients to feel comfortable and trust his work and realizes that there is a person connected to the teeth, and a dentist should establish a personal relationship with the patients first and a personalized treatment for each patient, BUT that is not the case with Dr. Barker. Money and profit come first. Also, if you EVER decided to see it for yourself and go to his office, you need to know that his rude, obnoxious, unprofessional and extremely harsh receptionist " Sandra", (who is in fact the reflection of his office , his class and his style), is a total control freak, and actually the one who is running the show in his office, and you need to make sure this woman approves everything before you talk to him. Believe it or not Dr. Barker is not the one in charge and needs her "permission" for any decisions that he has to make about your case, anywhere from the cost to the actual treatment plan...etc. especially when it comes to the money related issues she will tear you apart if it doesn't go her way!

Dr. Barker and his team are top notch! I can't say enough about how caring, professional and skilled they are. I have been going to Dr. Barker for the last 6-7 years and recently had a dental emergency right before Christmas 2021. Dr. Barker fit me in right away before Christmas and then connected me to an excellent periodontist (Dr. Camden Lim) and Endodontist (Dr. Wittenauer). I felt in such good hands and was constantly checked on to make sure I was doing ok. Sandra, who manages the office, is so great and kind plus is on top of everything about insurance, etc. Kristen, the nurse who works with Dr. Barker is such a gentle, supportive person who made me feel so calm. I am very scared of dental procedures and everything Dr. Barker and his team had to do with my recent dental issues was handled with such a professional, caring manner. I highly recommend Dr. Barker!

Dr. Barker is the most honest, caring, and professional dentist I have encountered. Just finished my lower teeth. One crown was not quite right. Others would have put it in and call it a day but Dr. Barker is all about perfection and care. Although there are many dentists in my area, I am willing to drive from San Clemente to his office in Newport Beach. He is the absolutely the BEST!

From walking through step by step to ensure I understood what process was being done, to the thorough conversation of my dental history, Dr. Barker's team does it all. They also utilize cutting-edge technology to make sure you are getting the best care possible. I can not recommend this team enough!

This is a great dental office. Everyone in the office is so friendly and encouraging. I hadn't been to a dentist in 10+ years so naturally I was scared. After a couple deep cleanings I come in on a every 4 month schedule. I love it here and genuinely enjoy my visits now that my teeth/gum health has progresses so much.

I've been coming here for years and the staff is so lovely every time. I'm lucky enough (knocks on wood) to not have major dental issues, but any problem I've ever had was handled professionally and competently. I can highly recommend.
