Education:Dr. Craig E. Newell received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of South Dakota. He then attended the College of Dentistry at the University of Iowa where he received his dental degree. During his senior year he was selected as the Outstanding student in Orthodontics. He then completed a residency in Orthodontics and received his Masters Degree in Orthodontics. While in dental school and during his residency he was involved in cleft palate and facial growth research. He completed his masters thesis on an analysis of ideal arch forms in patients with ideal occlusion.
Affiliations:Dr. Newell is a member of the American Dental Association, the Iowa Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association, the Dickinson County Dental Society, the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Association of Lingual Orthodontists, the World Federation of Orthodontists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He is also a charter member of the University Gold Orthodontic Study Club at the University of Minnesota.
Community Service:Dr. Newell served on the Spirit Lake Board of Education for 17 years and as president for 6 years. He also served on as a board member on the Lakeland AEA for 5 years. While he was a board member in Spirit Lake, he was responsible for initiating the development of the wind energy which now powers the schools campus. He has been active in numerous other community organizations.
Personal:Dr. Newell and his wife Lynn, have three children and four grandchildren that they enjoy spending time visiting. He enjoys golfing, fly fishing, biking, hiking, kayaking, boating, snow skiing, snow shoeing, swimming, stained glass, woodworking, reading, fine arts, and sporting events.

Best Orthodontist office out there!!! They are professional and make you feel comfortable. Never doubted my decision to be their patient. We have some good laughs too - great atmosphere in the office!

Our local orthodontist is one block from our house in Spencer. We chose to drive to spirit lake to see Dr. Newell anyway. We are now regretting that decision. My two kids have had braces on way longer than what we were told and what was considered typical (over 4 years). The communication from this office has been poor at best, and during the peak of Covid it was actually nonexistent. My oldest was switched over to invisilign braces several months ago, but now that my second child with them wants to do the same they won't even discuss it. They don't respond to emails and don't call/email back when they say they will after speaking with the doctor. Would not recommend.

Everyone that works there is extremely friendly and helpful. They listened to all of my concerned and helped with anything that was bothering me, they were also very understanding if I ran a little late to my appointments. I would reccomend them to anyone at any age, especially if you want to go somewhere affordable, professional and respectful.
